Can we get an /out/ style thread? I'm looking to build a wardrobe of clothes that are both functional and attractive. I'm sick of all my stuff being either one or the other, and don't want to keep paying for anything that isn't both.

I'm going to post a few items that spring to mind. Pls post anything you think of.

(pic not necessarily related, couldn't find anything decent to start the thread off with)

Danner boots are imo a perfect example of something being super practical and looking great. Gore tex, vibram soles, but none of that butt ugly busy design like modern technical boots. If only they'd make one that looks as good with some synthetic material for breathability

>>704551
heh no, not really. Does wanting to look decent make a person insecure? What total bullshit - far more likely that the opposite is true
>>
Im an outdoor instructor, mostly for kids, but with their teachers and the sites management and trustees walking around I try to maintain a semi professional look.
I tend to wear fairly well fitted cargo trousers, I have them in black, sage green and stone. I often wear a woolen turtle neck (non synthetic textles don't ignite as easily) I have a cream one and a dark brown one with suede elbow patches, and an appropriate jacket (usually a soft shell or a lined waterproof both regatta outdoors). Clean boots or wellingtons are a must, no matter on the style or colour if they're clean people understand you take your presentation seriously. I have hunter welington boots, I know they're overpriced and meme-tier but I've never worn a better fitting or nicer looking welly, with the fleece sock added you know you're gunna need them because youlll be shin deep in pussy.
It all depends tho on how you want to look, 80s gear is fucking cool, millitary surplus can look well if you don't go over the top and cheap jeans and a lumberjack shirt is in style and fairly well suited to most tasks.

>>
>>704586
Obviously you don't give a shit and that's fine, but why are you wasting so much time and effort? Why are you so angry? Just hide the thread and move on dude.

Except I think the reason you're so offended is that you think fashion is effeminate or gay, and that comes from your own insecurity.

I want to spend money on clothes I can wear in multiple environments and situations. Seems more efficient than anything else.

Drop the weird elitism, we're on 4chan.
>>
>>704586

Not OP but I think this thread is relevant and useful. I'm far more comfortable in anything I've bought from REI than anywhere else and it's nice to have /out/ clothes to go /in/ with.

When I'm going more than camping I will skip the nice clothes and buy some knock off athletic wear that I can ruin and throw away. But it's also nice to have nice things. Besides, wearing my smart wool or Kuhl pants is more than just a meme fashion tend to me. It's comfortable, functional and is a way of advertising hobbies I'm very passionate about.

I do get annoyed when I see someone wearing an Arc'tryx jacket as a rain jacket to get you from your house to your car. But that's why this thread is about things that are more than just /fa/.

The merino meme has to die. Sheep from really harsh climates have wool rough as fuck, while merino sheep come from north africa. Merino wool is less warm. far less durable and stupid expensive for the sole benefit of being soft. That's fine if you want a baselayer that doesn't scratch your tender nipples, but there's no reason whatsoever to make a shirt out of it.

Why are people so booty blasted over this thread?

What's wrong with wanting to fill two purposes with one garment? If I can choose between "works well and is wearable around town" and "works slightly better and looks dumb as fuck", I'll take the former, because it's one less garment I need to buy. Which means more money for sleeping bags/tents/other critical gear and for trips away.

With that said, most of the stuff in this thread is either shit for /out/ or falls in the second of the aforementioned categories.

many people on out don't care for fashion that much because it might be:
> more expensive
> worse material (hipster style shit)
> heavy, useless extras
> less durable
> less usefull - fake work / hiking boots

>since you are concern how you look you might not go all in bc it might scratch up your boots
> why play dress up if you want to be in nature
> new boots and cotton everywhere

its the difference between role playing and doing the real deal. unless you burn millions on good and pretty gear.
>>
>>705645
Yeah. Decent, good stuff that looks nice and is made to last out of high quality materials including technology like gore tex costs a bomb. danner boots are a good example. but if something ticks all of those boxes, i'm willing to pay the money.

Pretty much this >>704736

I went to fashion school and I currently work in fashion. I also like going hiking, camping, gardening, and fishing. Personally speaking I've given up on trying to find sturdy, functional clothing that also looks good. I've bought a lot of Patagonia stuff in the past but I find them lacking despite all the hype (also, not really all that cute).

Nothing wrong with having two different wardrobes, imho. Two different worlds, two different functions (looking good is a function just as much as flannel is for keeping warm). It's not like you're going to be having a fashion show in the woods, after all.

To keep your core insulated while your extremities are free to move around. A good quilted or down vest will give you the warmth of a decent jacket while leaving your arms free to do chores comfortably, allowing you to essentially be warm in a t-shirt when it's chilly out. Some people also just don't like the feel of long sleeves, or 'don't feel the cold' on their arms.

Some backpacks allow airflow on your back. If your pack doesn't then there is not much you can do when it's hot out to prevent back sweat. If it bothers you that much, all you can do is take a break with your pack off when your backs getting uncomfortably wet.

You can wear a hat and a long sleeve shirt meant for hot weather to protect from the sun.

Using wool as shell and cotton as lining was actually very common in the old days (pre-wwII uniforms for example). I have no idea for what reason that was, though. Interestingly, american WWII uniforms instead used a cotton shell with wool lining, which makes a lot more sense to me, but there must have been a reason for it.

Though

RAW: Uncompressed image files. It saves a lot more data without losing any when the camera applies white balance etc., so you can fuck around with it a lot more later - very useful.

You're right-ish, that photo has had a film look preset or adjustments applied, but it hasn't reduced the quality of the photo too much like instagram does.

I get what you're saying about fjallraven, but their stuff is at least good quality and made to last, and their raw length trousers are literally the only ones i've found that fit me that have any /out/ credibility whatsoever (I'm 6'8")

isn't that hard, and add gaiters, caps, along other things and you'll have an out clothing, as well as will be able to use it outside of outdoor activities. (obviously a 100% clothing set designated for a certain outdoor activitie might be better, but overall, i think it's this)
