So what do you guys do as an outdoor related hobby, if im sitting around inside i feel like im stagnating pretty quick and usually go out and do something
>>
Hunt, fish, backpack, hike, walk my dog and camp. During winter months I'm taking a lot of classes, so I get pretty bad cabin fever.
>>
>>683112
OP here , as i live in the UK and hunting is illegal and fishing is a pain where i live legality wise i do a lot of walking but with 10 days of constant rain the woodland area i live in is shitty too and most is inaccessible so right now im feeling pretty cramped inside. This winter though me and a friend of mine have been getting into urban exploring and that's been fun it's just sometimes finding a way to pass the time until i can get /out/
>>

I was also bored, shitty weather, just rain, no snow. So I took the neighbors dog for a walk and collected material for a friction fire.
I can start a bow fire, but not by hand, So I made a heartboard and a spindle and added some bark and tinder to that.
Now my hands hurt and I still cannot start a friction fire by hand, but at least I was out.
>>
>>683129
i kind of feel the same way , even if it is time i wasn't really doing anything productive i never feel like time /out/ is time wasted
>>
>>683119
>hunting is illega
I know some people hunt legally in the UK. Maybe the paperwork/formations are bitch but you can.

Bird watching is popular in England, maybe it's a good place for that. If it is muddy all the time, there should be some badass mushrooms to collect.

So pissed I woke up at 1pm today. Wanted to enjoy some fishing on ny Sunday. Now it's almost 4pm, I'm supposed to go somewhere at 5pm. Debating just ditching that idea and going to one of my lakes anyway.

I really need to take some vacation days soon. These weekends are not long enough to both relax a little and enjoy some hobbies.
>>
>>682482
Build /out/ related things to try when you can go out again.
/diy/ is a good board to look at
>>
>>683121
At first I thought that was a shoop but I think it's legit.
Is it real?

I know people go out and record sounds of all kinds of things.
Some anon on /n/ makes recordings of trains and I think mixes them in to make background tracks.

yep, me and the boys went down to the creek to mess around. Can't wait until the insects, amphibians, and birds start making noise again

nice! me too. i got cabin fever this winter. i'm hoping to use the contact mics a bit but so far nothing good has really come up, and it's been too mild to record the ice just yet either

>>683308
that's not real, it's from "creature comforts", which is a stop-motion funnyshow where various animals are being interviewed. it's pretty good †bh

Try carving spoons anon
It's fun you go out and find some good branches and you can sit out and carve or maybe some light whittling and make some roasters or something

You will need a spoon knife for this
I got a deep woods venture. The guy hand forges his blades and makes the handles too. I picked up a few of his carving knives and 1 small spoon knife they are awesome.
>>
>>683456
Not OP, but I think I'm gonna start getting into this now. Getting my dog out more this year and she's getting older so I'll need something to do around base camp with her.
>>
>>683302
I woke up way too late for my area too. Was a great day for it and everything. No ambition though. Midterms are a nightmare.
>>
>>683592
It's a lot of fun and doesn't require too much it's very relaxing and hard to mess up

I do everything I can man, if I could the live the dirtbag lifestyle I would. But thankfully I work in the outdoor industry, and often get paid to do the things I love. I do mixed rock climbing, bouldering, orienteering/bushwhacking, white water paddling, backcountry backpacking, sea kayaking, snowboarding, and mountainboarding.

Are you southeast? I've already seen trout lilies blooming, and snakes out and about. Spring is coming early this year.

Just getting a gun in Europe/the UK is a bitch.
I was never aware that fishing had legal bullshit over there, though. How the mighty have fallen, RIP Europe.

Being an /out/er is a bitch. It gets that anytime you're inside it feels like a prison. I think a day or two is the longest I can manage without getting away from people or getting out, even if it's just for a walk in the forest down the road

i like to stalk people.
so i go innawoods and stalk hikers and campers. i'm thinking about making photos of them taking a dump and stuff like that that would be funny.
sometimes i wait hours so i can mess with their stuff when they finally go to sleep.
sometimes they wake up and try to figure out what moves outside and listen intently. it's a huge rush.
>>
>>686370
I love doing that shit, I throw stuff away from where I am so they hear it and think something is over in that direction.
So hard to not laugh and get caught.
>>
>>686380
do you use a gillie too? shit is so cash. i can get so much closer even at bright daylight.

Also, I don't need to keep up with you, I just need to remain invisible to you, unless you're saying you run from noises in the innawood.

it gets better in the south.
35 years ago I was a teenager on a ten-speed stealth camping wherever and whenever necessary. these days I stick to public land

depending on the wood (cedar works pretty well for this) you can use embers to burn out a spoon

although you'll get prettier results in way less time with the knife, that's for sure

Awesome, thanks for the info.
Are there designated camp sites like there are in Brown County? Or can you camp anywhere you want? Those are the kinds of places I've been trying to find.

The Charles C. Deam Wilderness Area is all dispersed camping except near water or trails. I often park at a public fishing area then creep stealth mode into the State Forest to setup my audio recorder and tent. It beats sitting on a log and swatting mosquitoes for 8 hours.
