Hey /out/

I recently took a trip out to Yosemite National Park and wanted to share my pics with you guys. Thought you'd appreciate them.

Yosemite Falls. It was overly impressive this time of year, but better than autumn when apparently there's no water at all because all of the snow melt is gone from the previous winter.

Panorama from Dewey Point. I've never seen so much snow in my life. I'm from Alabama and get max 1 inch a year. I post-holed through 4 feet of snow in some places. It was fucking insane.

Started snowing like a bitch towards the end of the snow-shoeing outing. I drove a rental Toyota camry into the park and was freaking out because I didn't have chains or anything. Made it out fine though

Next day was a mix of snow and rain. Turned to all snow by the end of the day, but it was foggy the entire time. Can't even see the 2,000 foot valley wall in this picture

Last picture in the park. The next day I went and lost the rental car keys, which meant I lost my last day in the park. Fucking sucks, and was extremely expensive to replace. Don't ever lose your car keys

I seriously recommend going during the winter. Definitely be prepared for doing some ice climbing. I was, but my travel partner wasn't and that limited us. You can't get to a lot of the park too, but seeing the valley covered in snow is incredible.

Pic is as far as we could go up the mountain before time ran out. Got up a little late after sleeping too hard because of the long drive the day before. I'd definitely like to do an all-Arizona trip at some point. Beautiful state from what I've seen.

Cool pics. I'm going to Yosemite for the first time in May myself.

OP since you're not used to the snow you didn't know that snow messes with a matrix light meter and your pictures end up underexposed. Next time bump up your exposure by at least 2/3rd of a stop and your snow pics will be brighter.

It's just a DSLR. Nothing fancy. The problem I ran into the most was that my pictures were actually overexposed on my regular automatic modes. I used a setting that underexposed the shot in order to get the detail I was missing. I can go into photoshop and brighten them no problem.

Probably not the best fix, but I didn't feel like learning new shit on a camera I'm hopefully going to replace soon. You're right, though. I'll take that into consideration next time I'm out in cold.

Pic related is what I was trying to avoid.

This is what I got with the darker setting. I think it looks much better anyways

There's not a lot you could have done really, those were just poor lighting conditions for a camera.

Those kind of bright but still overcast conditions are tough to deal with because the sky goes to shit really easily.

Pic related. Similar lighting conditions that gave terrible photos.
>>
I live like an hour from yosemite. Every spring we get tons of tourists, but I lost interest in the park years ago.

My girlfriend wants to have her wedding there at the chapel.

HDR photography but it reqs a tripod and software to merge the images.
