And a soft shell for my dehydrated food to stay warm while rehydrating.

The next trip will not be gormet.

I MYOG quite a bit. Almost always cheaper, always fit my needs better than commercial gear. Pic is my roll-top alcohol stove (coca-cola bottle). I've also done a cocoon hammock, hammock straps, several bike bags and I am currently dehydrating and vacuum-packing meals. Next up is Tyvek reflex rain pants and poncho. Will probably make a bivvy with this as well as a backup for my SOL Escape bivvy.

I made my own Jecklin Disk for field recording. Commerically sold ones cost three-hunnred dollars or more, and not only are they not fucking worth anything close to that, they also seem to have a number of limitations and design flaws. It's fucking ridiculous. Anyway, mine's not especially pretty looking but it sounds as beautiful as an adolescent orgasm. >:]
>>
>>668988
any new recordings?
i love them.
>>
>>668995
Nah it's winterseason and there there's nothing much to record. I think my last recording was back in Sept. If I'm lucky i can catch coyotes still but my gear can't be out there in the freezing bleak. The only thing I plan to get for the winter is some stuff with contact mics, ice thunder and maybe some creaking trees and whatnot.

And thanks friend!
>>
>>668960
Cool, is that a full size isobutane canister or a colemans propane can? Similar size. You could sew a pouch for that hand warmer maybe

>>soft shell for my dehydrated food to stay warm while rehydrating.

I use a insulated soft sided lunchbox that I got at the dollar store for the same purpose. It has a Velcro closure and will hold three Mountain House meals & keep them searing hot for 30 minutes (or more...)

Not a lot of /diy/nosaurs replying.

Daily reminder that gear mods count, too! Pic related.

I make a lot of my own gear and packs and whatnot. Ill start posting some in chronological order of what I have made.

We can only pray that 4chan doesn't rotate my shit.

Well this is the second pack I made, mounted on an Alice frame. I Really liked this setup as it was very minimalistic. Great for overnights in warm weather.

This is my third pack, I've posted it before. I spent a lot more time on this and focused on using good materials. Ignore the coleman hatchet, it don't actually use it. I am very proud of this one.

And here is a sheath I made for a cold steel shovel.
>>
>>670223
What's the point of going outdoors if you don't look cool? Joking aside, the materials are practical, as the pack should last pretty much forever, and the waxed canvas is ridiculously water and fireproof as well.

These looks really nice. Pretty sweet work. Are they really heavy-duty and robust? Can you make me custom pack for my recording gear?
>>
>>668960

what is that insulation called?

i was thinking of doing the same but with EVA foam
>>
>>670325
Thanks anon. YeahI mostly use 18 oz canvas, heavy thread, solid copper rivets etc. I'm still not quite good/fast enough at making these for me to sell anything. For example, this pack >>670215 took close to 40 hours including designing it. At minimum wage here it would cost close to $500 to break even, which is an outrageous price, so for now it's just a hobby.
>>
>>670337

actually nevermind,
insulating the tank would be worthless

insulation only works when the source generates heat, and the tank itself is always ice cold even if the burner top starts getting hot
>>
>>670340
It's not completely useless. If you put the insulation on while you're still in your nice cozy home, and it goes is your nice warm cozy backpack, by the time you are cooking, a lot of the heat will remain.
>>
>>670191
What am I looking at here?
>>
>>670338
If I was rich I would pay you for it just for mutual benefit but I'm not. And I know the feeling, I'm working on prototypes of something (not /out/ related) I want to sell, but I'd have to sell them for like $200 each just to make like $25, so that's like $4/hr -_-

Oh well, maybe someday

Wow, I'm really impressed. I've mended a few things and made a few mediocre knife sheaths but that's about it.

I really wish I could sew that well. Have you ever considered commercially producing this kind of stuff?
>>
>>670342

LOL
no

>>

LOL good Input. Great response. Terrific info. Your response couldn't be better. Congratulations.

As the pressure drops in the container due to use, the temperature inside will naturally drops.

Anyone here ever DIY a packframe and straps? Either like pic related, or some other material? Been thinking of doing something like this and then using a large capacity sportsbag I have lying around to make a poorfag large capacity pack.
>>
>>670508
Look up ranger's digest and google some Alice pack modifications guys in the army have been doing since the 80's. Lot of helpful info for getting a proper fit and function.
>>
>>670370
you are an idiot

>>670372
ok - what part of not understanding how insulation works that you don't understand??
you don't even understand the fact that you don't understand how insulation works
>>
>>670671
So you're saying that an object must be producing heat to have insulation? A cup of coffee isn't producing heat, yet people still use insulated mugs. Why is that?

Anon I'm sure you could sell a few of these to rich hipster fags if you start making a bunch of small bags that look neat, if they know it's handmade and rare they're definitely going to be willing to pay $700 dollars if it's your passion
