Hi, I'm wondering if anyone here has completed hikes that are from 280 - 330 km (173 - 205 mi) in terrain graded "medium difficulty", ie. no need to mountain climb but expect some steep hills. How many days did you use?
Reason I'm asking is because I'm planning to do either Westweg in Germany or ViaGottardo in Switzerland in the summer/autumn and I'd love some input regarding timing. I am also unfamiliar in the area except from business trips to Basel and Stuttgart, so locals' input are especially welcome.

I've walked Oslo - Trondheim ((Norway) 500 km - 310 mi) over 12 days, but this was with a group of several people and slower than I'd usually walk so not really representative I think.

Thank you in advance.

If you're new to through hikes, 15 miles a day is a decent cruising pace. I'd factor in 13 to play it safe, and add one more day to that.

Have fun! I'm jealous you have the time to do this. Best training you can do is to get your feet used to being used a lot more than normal.

Thanks for your reply. :) 15 miles seem like a decent goal, it's the distance from my home to my workplace, so an easy distance to check out.

Its easiest if you UL (to climb the hills) you dont want all that wight pulling you backwards.

And seriously, doing the ViaGottardo means you are walking close to the freeway all the time. There are other routes which are more scenic: http://www.wanderland.ch/en/routes/national-routes.html

I've walked that one as well! "Pilgrimsleden - Gudbrandsdalsleden" right?
