what are your hiking food hacks?

Stuff that's nutritious, non-perishable and maybe even a bit tasty. For warm climates this is my list:

- Sunflower seeds, probably half my caloric intake
- Bread or for longer trips hardtack
- Dried fruits (dates, peaches, sultanas etc)
- Rice or oats if I can make a fire (I don't carry stoves or gas burners or whatever)

very simple and gets boring on 3-4 day hikes. What could I add?

I'm too poor for jerky.

Salami is non-perishable and cheaper than jerky

Most of us just eat hardtack, not because its cheap but because it tastes good and is authentic

For real?

I mean fucking for real?

Then make your own. It's not hard. Just set the meat high above a wood fire and let it smoke for around 5 hours or so. Tenderize the shit out of it first so it's not too tough once dried.

Turkey jerky made from home.
Protip: buy lots of frozen ones before Thanksgiving when they are $0.50 a pound.
