alright out,

I want to go camping in 40° weather. Couldn't I just put my coals into a metal bowl, set that in a towel, and warm my tent up?

I looked online but no one has said anything about this technique. Is there anything wrong with this?
>>
> wtf has happened to /out/?

Op, of course! We all do it, just don't tell the secret.

could I put some coals inside a thermos, so they stay on through the night, and thus have warm coals in the morning?
>>
I boil water in my steel water bottle, put it inside a sock and put it at the for of my sleeping bag. Feels awesome. Plus you've got nice body-temperature water to drink in the morning instead of ice water

How does a soggy sock keep you warm at night, and why would you drink that ?
>>
>>648033

>dig pit in ground, about 1 foot deep
>fill 8 inches with hot coals
>cover with two inches of dirt
>sleep on mound

for more fun, bury a pipe and run it a over to a vent hole so you get some 02 exchange.

Heat rocks instead. Don't fuck with CO.
>>
>>648024
coals without oxygen don't stay hot for very long, wont last all night for sure.
>>
2 liter hot water bottle.

pour boiling water in. wrap in towel. Insert in sleeping bag.

>40 degrees weather
That's very hot m8, why would you need to warm yourself at that weather.

I live near the equator, it's rarely reach 28 degrees here.

Hey man, they don't teach critical thinking in Europe, don't be a bigot.
>>
>>647951
40° longitude weather can vary wildly depending on various circumstances, but if you're in the us i recommend philadelphia or denver, but denver schould be colder this time of year
but if you want real 40°N, 40°E weather there is no substitute for otlukbeli, turkey.
it's possible that i misinterpreted your post, but then who would want to camp in solid oxygen
>>
>>647951
nah bad idea overall.
in a closed bowl the coal will be put out.
it your tent has a chimney like a jurt then you can do it no need for bowl then the warm gas will escape through the hole in the roof pulling in fresh air from the sides.
as anons said just use hot rocks or hot salt. more dense keep more heat than water.

Dig a hole for your fire, like 6 inches is enough for you to be able to stir it around in the morning and still have coals.
>>
>>648161
it's gonna keep happening till everyone realizes that there are many different degrees, not only relating to temperature, and that a simple letter can make a huge difference

Sounds like alot of extra work. What I usually do is after I get in my tent is I light it on fire. Toasty as fuck.
