I want a bag for very cold weather winter camping.
It needs to be cheap though.
There is one on amazon for 50 bucks on sale, its a coleman with polyester fill.
I also have found an old outfitter in santa fe that sells high end gear from 20 years ago. All lightly used but clean and in good shape. He has hundreds of them and he sells them super cheap.
Has the technology changed much in 20 years? What would you guys do?

If you're car camping or similar, the best cheap cold weather bags are the super heavy (usually about 20lb) -40F bags/systems. They usually run between $100-200.

A -40F down bag is usually like $500+ and usually about 6lb. A -40F high quality synthetic (like Primaloft) is usually $300+ and closer to 10lb.

I bought this Sleeping bag when I went camping in the beginning of October in Ontario. I slept with the zips undone and it went down to 0'C and I was still warm. Its a warm bag but it is very bulky, I Bought an Alps XL compression bag on sale and it works reasonably well, still bulky tho. So if your car camping/ walking 500m to the camp site it'll be fine, otherwise buy something else.

The santa fe guy is an old outfitter with a makeshift store behind his house.
Its off agua fria st down towards siler.
I only heard of him because he was selling thule racks cheap on craigslist.
The whole thing is a totally underground type deal and everything is dead cheap.
