ENO (eagles nest outfitters) is just a brand of hammock. They are probably the most popular brand of parachute nylon hammock, since they market themselves well.

They're actually pretty good hammocks for what they are. A little heavy, little pricey, but built well, lots of different color combos, and are available everywhere.

Their accessories are a mixed bag. I really like their atlas straps (super easy to hang), but their underquilts and topquilts are heavy and expensive for the price.

ENO aren't as nice as some hammocks, but lots of people use them. The problem is college kids think they're cool, so they hang them (incorrectly) all over campus and lay in them (incorrectly).

>>

You can use it how you want, but you'll be more comfortable if you use it right.

College kids hang them supwr tight, and lay in them straight.

You need some sag, and lay at an angle, that way you're much more comfortable.

Stringing a hammock tight is just stupid.

I can see the appeal of hammocks but a simple bivy tent is superior in every way.

How is this better then a tent?
>>
There's literally nothing wrong with camping in an Eno. I live in a hot and humid climate with lots of steep terrain. I bring an Eno (and a tarp) for all of my summer trips. I don't break out the tent until it gets chilly.

>tfw you can camp on any terrain, as long as there are trees (not a problem in my area- whole state is one big forest)
>lightweight
>easy to put up and tear down, good place to rest and nap on long hikes
>no poisonous snakes
>if you put your elbows and knees in it, you can flip upside down and pee if it's too cold/spooky to journey away

All these Eno hating fags are making me ree.
>>

I could see that kinda neato, in the same way that a gas/electric/candle lamp is neato have when camping. Especialy in the dark innawoods. People put lights like that around their trailers, patios, etc. It helps you see your stuff and get in and out of the hammock, and it also makes a perimeter. I got hammock camping with friends a lot nad people actually walk into or have to go around my hammy all the time, because they don't see it until they're right on it. Some people have this problem with their tent/stakes as well pic related.

Anyway, it's just a little camping comfort item and I don't see the problem.

The advantage over a bivy is comfort for many people.

For me, I can't sleep on the ground, even if I have a kick ass pad. I ache so bad when I wake up, I just can't do it.

In a hammock, I get better sleep than un my bed.

I agree, having the quilts, especially my winter set up is bulky, but it makes up for it in comfort.

Also, when you're in a tent or bivy, you're just laying in a bag in the woods, very isloated. Being in a hammock is open, and it's freaking awesome. Some may not like that, but damn it was an absolute revelation to me my first night out. I couldn't go back to a tent.

In my area, another advantage is potential camping spots. There's tree everywhere, I mean everywhere. There aren't that many nice flat areas in many of my favorite spots. In my hammock I can hang on a hill, or really anywhere. Out west, where trees are limited, def bring a tent or bivy.

A bivy does offer more protection from weather unless you have a really impressive winter tarp setup for your hammock. Even then, a bivy is more weatherproof.
