I feel it. Compared to last year the season's been really slow to start and kinda underwhelming. Not gonna stop me, though...
Pic is last weekend's haul. Went with a small group of friends, everyone came back with about this much. Feels good to get out in the woods again.

Pic of where I was hunting for the chanterelles. Perfect spot. Mix of C. californicus, C. formosus, and C. Cascadensis under sitka spruce.
Shit seems kind of intimidating to me. I'd love to learn how to pick out edibles innawoods like mushrooms, but dont really know where to start. Seems like one wrong choice and it could be the last.

Find people in your area. Read a book. Trust me, there are plenty of abundant, delicious mushrooms that can be very easily ID'd. For example, the entire genus Hericium-- edible, delicious, and without close lookalikes (poisonous or otherwise). Pic related.
Where are you from?

I'm living in Utah currently. Most of its dry country, but I live next to a canyon/river/forested region where I'm sure fungi can be found. Season is over here though from what I heard

No doubt you would know better than I, but I'd expect mushroom season to last until December at least. Is it super dry out or something?

ugh that looks so unappetizing.
I live in the Southern US and I go mushroom hunting a lot. I find chanterelles, oyster mushrooms, and sparassis often. Some milk caps too.
Unfortunately, the only boletes I find are bitter ones or Satan's bolete.
I do grow my own mushrooms sometimes. I'm currently in the process of isolating some king trumpet mushroom mycelium in agar.

Looks ain't everything. Hericium tastes a lot like lobster when cooked right.

Any tips for isolating wild strains on agar? I've cultivated wild psilocybes and reishi in non-sterile grows and wanted to bring it indoors, so to speak.
