there's a reason why people only buy paper maps for roads only.. cause they stay in your car, away from any water. Also paper maps normally just cover either a single area you buy them for, or silly state and national parks. Not other places.

Garmin e-trex 20 is pretty good. Maps are easy enough to "buy" online and you can also load up maps from openstreetmap and others.
