Honest question: Why do most of you carry both a folding knife and a SAK/multitool? Seems a little redundant if you ask me.
>>
>>625766
Knife is better for cutting than a multitool, multitool has more utility than a knife.
>>
I'm curious how many of you actually EDC your EDCs. Because if we're being completely honest here, I've got a medium sized folder and a bic lighter, and maybe some old receipts in my wallet that I could use as tinder. But I frequently go out on my own and feel pretty confident in my abilities as long as I've got a knife and fire, though I do have a day pack (aside from my ruck) that holds water, filter, duct tape and mylar that I carry if I go more than a couple hundred feet from camp.
>>

EDC implies what you have around town every day, not what you would take in the woods with you.
>>

It's actually the definition, lol. That's why I asked how many people actually do, and why I said mine is only a bic and a pocket knife. But when I'm out essentially "living" in the woods, my day bag becomes my EDC.

For those who CC, do you guys use a bigger size jeans than you would need if you didn't CC? Is it uncomfortable to carry?
>>
>>626621

When ever I try on any short of pants / shorts, I always try it with my holster on too, so I can feel out it does when I bend, walk, etc. So usually my pants are a size or two up for that.

Breaking in a new holster can be uncomfortable at first. After it molds to you, it feels good.

That is hard to do. My outings change a lot, so does my gear. If it is a normal hike, pretty much my edc with some food, water, emergency kit. Weather has a huge play in that too. Seeing as I am WA. I might bring more ways to start a fire, or just a bic lighter.

Also in the woods I tend to carry my AR. which I don't see that as edc.

>>
>>625895
Ignoring the fact that this was probably bait, I'd say the majority of people who posted here carry less than you or were referring to what they bring /out/.
>>
>>626915
I don't carry a gun or a flashlight (I used to have a little squeeze light on my keychain, but it broke).

I do carry a SAK with me most days, though. Not because I think I'm going to stab a bear or defuse a bomb, but it's proven itself useful on more than one occasion.
>>
>>626915
Flashlight for me is used daily, but I work in a warehouse and for an alarm company. Looking under desks, under seats, behind couches, in crawl spaces, basements, attics, behind walls while feeding wire, etc. I'm honestly suprised you haven't been in more situations where you need a flashlight, my eyesight isn't even that bad. A knife? Zipties, rope, tape, wire, boxes, Cipher's spies, plastic packaging, plastic wrap, almost every other or every day. I think it's more of an occupational sort of thing.
>>
>>625918
Endura 4 with the scandi grind. It's niiice
>>
>>626915

Flash light and knife are pretty important tools. I drive around the state, picking up lab testings, etc for hospitals, clinics and so forth. I work at night so flash light is used daily. The knife is used to open zip ties and sealed boxes all the time too for work, so that is needed. Like I said, I travel around the state, so I go through a lot of ghetto areas at night. Though I have never had to use my gun in self defense, I have had to pull it before, I have used my flash light as a impact device too for self defense.

So like I said, flash light and knife are used daily. Plus if you carry a gun, you should also carry a reliable light, either on the gun or on your person itself. Better to i.d. a target in the dark.

Why don't Victorinox make a tool with single handed opening blade as well as pliers and/or scissors? It's a real pain in the ass for me, as I hate non-locking blades, and QLD, Australia law specifically mentions 'swiss army knife' by name (rather than multitool) as something you're allowed to carry for general use.

Does anyone have any experience modifying swiss army knives with different tools? Seems fairly tedious.
>>
>>627323
Actually, 'Swiss army' isn't a brand, it's a general term. So you could actually make one yourself and call it a Swiss army knife. Also, there's at least two companies that use that logo, since it's not copywrited, the only reputable being Victorinox, who also makes damn fine watches.
>>
>>627325
Well Victorinox and Wenger hold the legal rights to the 'Swiss Army Knife' term. Because our laws are so shit here in Aus, I don't want to be carrying my Leatherman and have a cop go 'well that's not really a Swiss Army Knife' and have it confiscated or get charged with some bullshit.

Also, Victorinox and Wenger have different logos.
>>
>>626915
>but a torch and knife? how often do you use that?

Since it gets dark so early these days I use my bike light almost daily and that's basically a LED flashlight with a handlebar mount. My keychain flashlight comes in randomly handy often enough, I could live without it but I'm often glad I have it. Used my headlamp and a waterproof flashlight with diffuser cone as nav lights on my kayak a few days ago when I was coming back to my put-in spot after dark.

Knife I use all the time innacity to cut up apples, cut string and tape and open packaging (since almost everything you buy these days is either in a sealed plastic bubble or zip-tied to a hang card) and craft beer bottles. Also I like to carve wood.
>>
>>627325
The Swiss government licenced Victorinox and Wenger to make official "Swiss army knives". Then Victorinox bought Wenger. So "Swiss army knife" absolutely is a brand.

Pretty sure it's an hardcore hardware, I don't know the model tho

It's a ripoff of a Gerber GDC Zip knife that I found in a two dollar store. If you get the original off Amazon it's like ten bucks - totally worth it I think.

That's just the modernized version, they used the classic looking SAK earlier.

Interestingly that knife is one of the few that does serrations right. Serrations aren't supposed to be at the strongest part of your knife pull, they're supposed to give you a nice toothy edge that lasts longer at the front.

This way you can still to intense cutting force close to the handle where you need it.
