Stalker is a personal favourite of mine. Is 'Into the Wild' any good? Thinking of watching that tonight.
Gotta go with The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.
Into the Wild is a pretty decent film. It's entertaining enough with some sappy dramatic parts here and there. Overall I'd recommend it.
Fucking stalker man. I need to watch that movie again.
>>622061
Stalker must be the most unpleasant movie I've ever watched.
>>622078
Its definitely not very accessible I'll give you that, but I did enjoy the mood it created and the visuals of the zone quite a bit.
>>622078
I bet you find campfires and the nightsky boring
>>622078
I completely agree with you. I've never felt so uncomfortable while watching a movie.
>>622112
Can you elaborate? I honestly don't see where you are coming from (Not that you have to enjoy it of course)
>>622112
Watch "Suspiria" (1977)

>>622061
I recommend this to my fellow peers, ofc they will never watch it as it is 'too slow'.
TV series 'Manhunt' is a fun watch.
>>622150

Stalker.
>>622112
We Need to Talk about Kevin
A good 90 minutes of being uncomfortable.
Blackthorn
True Grit (2010)
Seraphim Falls
The Hunter
Rambo
Those all have some pretty nice scenery in them
Alone in the Wilderness is probably one of my favourite actually /out/ related though.

Kung Fury
>>622211
How did I forget that?
>>622193
yes but where can i watch it?
is there a eng sub version?
>>622061
I liked Into the wild, but not all of it is about being out in alaska, a lot of it is about him intentionally being a hobo and meeting people.
My favourite /out/ film is Touching the void.
Mud was pretty great.

Now that this is a movie thread:
Wilderness Family 1-3
Walkabout (1971) (highly recommended)
The Snow Walker (2003)

The Great Silence (1968)
Jeremiah Johnson (1972)
Into The White (2012)
Cannibal Holocaust (1980)

Thank me later if you haven't seen all of these already.

Slow Boring As Fuck
Boring
As
Fuck
>3 men walking at a snail's pace,
>in between long periods of standing around mumbling psycho babble for 2.5 hours
>or staring at nothing with their mouths hanging open looking stupid
>when they travel they barely fucking move
>takes 10 fucking minutes to watch them take 10 steps
>while they are constantly breathless and panting like they're running a god damned marathon even though they only take like one step per minute.
would love a good movie based on the stalker universe but this is torture to watch. no i dont need car chases and explosions every 10 seconds, just need a little more actual shit happening beside 3 slow men boringly stumbling around at an incredibly slow pace while arguing stupid bullshit with each other
This looks wicked good but idunno if it's gonna be.

Just to list some movies I'm fond of that have /out/ elements in them
Come and See has some cool forest scenes
Tons of Clint Eastwood movies

a good movie, recommended.
The Edge
>>622380
what one man can do, another man can do.
If a Tree Falls: A Story of the Earth Liberation Front is my favourite /out/-related documentary. It covers the highly-controversial debate concerning environmental radicalism in today's age, as well as the rise and fall of one of the most notorious "eco-terrorist" groups to ever exist. While the documentary might be slightly biased towards the protesters perspective, the filmmakers were able to get some great interviews from law enforcement & affected business owners as well.
>>622378
Excaliber 1981 is hardly /out/.
>>622319
>slow pace
Yeah but I will remember this movie like forever. Tbh I didn't like it either, but I woulnd't call it boring as fuck.
Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner
Before Tomorrow
>>622510
The whole movie is about Merlin and Mother Nature and spells. IIRC this is the movie where knights ride and the apple trees are blooming. If this is not /out/ I don't know what is.
>>622621
it's a tale about how Christianity supplants the ways of the old gods- as in fucking grail quest... and shit like that
you need to watch the film again m8
trivia: the girl who does the rape scene as Arthur's mother is actually the director's daughter
>>622627
>you need to watch the film again m8
I really do. It's been like 10 years. Anyway, one of the good films I've ever seen. I don't remember it being a christian film, but my memory is not perfect.
>>622612
more slow than boring i guess. it was just too slow paced for me, the physical action part i mean
>>622319
You do realize that the stalker series was based off of this movie right? They took this idea and gave it a tangible location.
>I don't like the thing that gave life to the thing I do like
>>622211
My favorite. I've been considering buying a 50 cal hawken for years now, just because of this movie.
>>622127
lmao
Not overly /out/ but I though that Django Unchained had a few /out/ shots, it was mostly the montage early in the movie
>>622762
That's all fine and well. but the point is the movie was slow and boring. it's ok i understand it's mostly just due to the russian style of film making.
Come and See was the same way. long boring, actionless scenes of the characters staring blankly at the camera, or staring vaguely at nothing, with their mouth hanging open looking stupid, while unpleasant music grinds away in the background.
I dont know what its called but it seems to be an extremely overused cinematic mode of exposition in russian film
pathfinder (1987)
>>622143

I loved Stalker and Come and See.
Rambo sort of fits, and Death Hunt (1981) with Charles Bronson is pretty /out/ related too.

It's so bizarre it's worth sticking with despite the VO.
>>622925
Entertaining but nonsense, lots of beautiful scenery though. I'd love to see Baikal and Tibet someday.
>>622210
>>622337
>The Hunter
Thirded. The whole family/logger subplot felt pretty extraneous, it's not like it gave Martin's character any more depth, but it's worth a watch for the scenery and /out/ alone.
>>623071
>Dersu Uzala
mah nigga
>>622061
>>622061
Mah nigga.
A scientist with his rational approach to life, an alcoholic writer with his ethical approach to life, led by "A little common man, a dog." This movie gave me the feels.
It's sort of /out/ related, but I really like The Jack Bull. It's an adaptation of an old English morality play that's set in the Wyoming territory. It's about a dispute between a horse trader and a land baron that gets out of hand.
Deals a lot with things like property rights vs. common use, legitimate vs illegitimate authority, etc.
Damnit I was banned earlier because of something I posted on /sp/ and I had what I thought was a fantastic suggestion to add to this thread but wasn't able to at the time.
I'll echo some other suggestions until I remember.
>Jeremiah Johnson
>Into the Wild (a little lame but worth watching)
>Deer Hunter
>A River Runs Through It
>I'll throw Lord of the Rings in this simply because the cinematography is fantastic and lots of campfires, etc even though it's sheer fantasy
>DELIVERANCE!!!! That was it. Damnit that was going to hurt the brain
Deliverance is pretty damn /out/, although it's more of a thriller. Some absolutely classic scenes with Jon Voight and Burt Reynolds on the river. I'm a GA boy, so I've seen it a number of times and actually wrote a small research paper on it based around the symbolism of the nature, the characters, etc etc. Deliverance is worth a watch for sure.
Been to quite a few places where they actually shot the movie. North Georgia really can be gorgeous.
How I Ended this Summer (2010)
2 ruskies on an Arctic weather station, one is grizzled old man one is young college grad. Lots of wilderness, snow, rocks, catching and drying fish, a polar bear or two, great innashack scenes. Typical slow Russian cinema but lots of /out/ action.
http://m.imdb.com/title/tt1588875/
>>622211
>Jeremiah Johnson
Just.....I don't......I don't know what to say at this point. I'm almost ashamed for never having seen this before. It's like the comfiest /out/ movie ever made. Dl'ed it last night and gave it a view. It's SO FUCKING GOOD.
Also, when camera zooms in on him trapping the beaver and I recognized the meme I actually lol'ed. Coworker thought I was insane.
>>623235
>Entertaining but nonsense
its based on a true story
>The Hunter
fucking retardedest movie ever
Dafoe's character a fucking idiot from start to finish
>>622921
Tarkovsky focuses heavily on his cinematography and tries to convey themes through his shots, and transitions. I understand this might seem boring but that just means this movie isn't for you.
Tarkovsky also made a movie where the first 30 minutes or so is just footage of passing cars. He did this in order to make sure all the normies left the theater before the actual movie started.
>>622319
>pretending to be a stalker fan
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is based off of this movie which is based off of the Novel Roadside Picnic which is also a pretty "boring" novel to normies like you.
>>622078
>>622112
Why? I think it's very beautiful.
Soviet Russian movies are generally very uncomfortable, though. pic related very much
>>622315
he does not talk. idiot.
>>622315
if you think this is a family/walt disney tier movie youve obviously never seen it. Its actually a really good film that basically every post-apocalyptic media has drawn inspiration from the fallout video game series being the most notable

I think it's some type of Asian mangrove at low tide, judging by the buttressed roots of the plants.
>>623682
Lol. I used to live and work in the six rivers. I've been to the top of Bluff creek, too. Didn't see bigfoot, unfortunately.
Princess mononoke. I know its "anime", but the animation is beautiful, and the scenery is on par with bob Ross paintings. Every frame is hand painted. A beautiful film.
into the wild is a beautiful film, but it comes across as borderline hero worship.
plus the amount of stupid mistakes he makes is cringeworthy.
still, a beautiful film and well worth watching.
>>622503
Watched this a year or two back.
Pretty good documentary whether or not you agree with the environmentalists, would recommend.
>>622319
Its a very spiritual film, something about it has a very profound effect in me. Its deeply moving in a way Ive never seen before.
>>625393
This it might have been too slow for some people but I agree 100% that it is a very spiritual film. While not overly so, I also found it a bit introspective though I found it more as an examination of faith (overall, broad strokes)
>>623551
Are you referring to Solyaris?
It's a great film, but it's definitely very different from the book.
>>624314
The movie isn't based off of the game you fucking retard, its based off the book. My point was that to you the book is probably also boring, because you have shit taste.

"The stalker universe" originates from boris and arkady syrugatskys roadside picnic, to which the film stalker is far more faithful. The game world is an even looser adaption than dune on film - great games but unrelated in almost every way.
I consider it one of the best movies ever made, stalker was a conceptual fucking riot. If the ideas in that film didnt excite you were are a different species.
>>625708
The original builds of STALKER were more based on "Roadside Picnic" with aliens and sci-fi weaponry.
I watched a documentary on the Stalker film, and apparently the original movie had action sequences and special effects. The film was destroyed in a fire and they had to re shoot the whole film with no budget and that's what we got.
>>622921
You're completely right, there's no action scenes or pop music at all. Complete garbage.
Its a glimpse into a different universe, the value comes from introspection. How you relate to what you are seeing is a good part of the film.
Lets say there is a film about a man in the wilderness, he is a soldier and steps on a mine. The rest of the film is about his internal struggles, and lasts 40 minutes. Is it interesting? That depends entirely on the viewer... most people capable of empathy and philosophy would most likely say "yes".
Do you see what I'm getting at?
Films of the period were produced for completely different reasons than they are today.

Can recommend Come and See. Saw that in theaters (repertory theater) along with a movie called City of Life and Death from China.
Fully recommend both. And not in an edgy way, like it's "cool", but like, "people should confront this shit". Even if it's a movie, both of those take it to a level I haven't seen many times.
>>626074
>City of Life and Death

>>625717
Do you have a source on this? My understanding was that Tarkovsky had a problem during the exposure process that rendered the footage useless.
>>622315
you're missing the point of the movie which is to be a campy "coming of age movie" set in the post apocalyptic world and really horrible things happen
the style of the movie is in a direct juxtaposition of the content, this is one of the few movies ive ever seen that actually pulls it off perfectly, even if the other themes are cliche nowadays

Many movies from Werner Herzog are about individuals who are in conflict with nature.
Aguirre might be my favorite but "Grizzly Man" "Encounters at the End of the World" and "Happy People" are all pure outdoor documentaries/movies at heart
>>622317
I dont with films with such little diversity
shitlord
I watched Stalker very recently. It's cool how the director (can't spell it) spent a year collecting footage only for it to be destroyed. He then fought hard to film a completely different movie. I'd like to watch it in a cinema alone, or at least watch it through in a peaceful environment.
Also some nice /out/ movies are:
Southern Comfort: movie about a group of military reservists being hunted by locals in the Louisiana Bayou
The Edge: Sean Connery gets shot down in Alaska and has to use /out/ skills to survive
Never Cry Wolf: A scientific researcher lives alone in Alaska and struggles to survive, nice nature shows and some genuine /out/-tier comfort.
