Powell's don't like talking about things that involve chainsaws and other power tools around here....

This is my saw when I bought it. Stihl MS362 C-M

I've got a Husqvarna 235.
Pretty reliable machine, but the chain stopped Lubricating itself properly, guessing something is clogged up.
Gonna tear it down, clean it up and soak it in diesel

>Powell's don't like talking about things that involve chainsaws and other power tools around here....

It's a weird topic, I mean.. it could fit on /diy/, /out/ or even /o/ just because
>ATV
>>
>>621057
>Husqvarna

Good machines. My favourite past time however, is making fun of people who have one.

>may I have a ride on your Huskynwarvanaan?

It's pronounced "Husk-varna"

Hwuvskwivono?
Huulkswanainipha?
Hsknvna?
Hksna?

KTM is better...

We don't really get the hsknvananna quads/atv in my country. I do have an old grizzly I can't complain much about though, fierce beast that thing.
>>
>>621058
The chainsaw is a Husqvarna.
The ATV is just some misc. Chinese pile of scrap metal.
Gets the job done though.

Doesn't look like there is much in the way of rough terrain and hills there but still, I find those off brand things tend to start falling apart and rapidly decline from then.

Got a second hand Quixho Ping Pong whatever chinese quad last year but it dint last more than a month and had to be constantly towed by the big grizzly... the terrain is... heavy... pic related.
>>
>>621062
Doesn't really look like it from the pictures, since they were taken on a smaller Tractor path.

There's a valley on both sides of the path and behind the ATV the terrain starts to rise.
Plenty of rocks and trees, can't take any machinery up there.
There's a pretty cool cave about two kilometers deeper into the forest.

Also as far as reliability goes, the first month or two is always the worst with Chinese machines.
Things WILL break down, but once you get those first issues fixed you end up with a fairly reliable machine.
Haven't had any bigger issues with it outside of having to weld on some extra metal. The rear swing arm was a bit weak so it snapped itself after some spirited riding, two metal pipes later it was reinforced and it's still holding.

I got the ATV last year in February and it hauled home two firewood for two seasons along with plowing our road.

I still wouldn't mind a 4x4 Brand name machine, but they're a bit out of my price range for now.

I run Husqvarna saws at work and own two Stihl saws. Anyone who gets in some kind of pissing contest about the two is usually an idiot, their performance is nearly identical.

I'm hopefully going to cut some firewood tomorrow with my MS660. Just put a new dual port exhaust on it, rebuilt the carb, new air filter and new fuel filter. I expect it to rip!

Large oak I took down and dominoes 3 other trees. I was way too big for my saw/skill level. Didn't have anything of value in the way though.

/out/ is also filled with people who stay inside, but aspire to be Bush crafting experts, so power tools aren't within their realm of discussion because it's too modern.
>>

Well.. that's interesting?
I can grasp the concept behind the /out/ spirit, I don't live in a city, but I embrace the modern world, especially in regards to technology.
Does /out/ reject things they deem 'too modern'?

I kinda miss the highschool days where we would go camping and get drunk, was fun having 5 drunk dudes running around late at night with axes and shit gathering wood for the fire, we would do dumb shit like jump on dead branches 10ft from the ground trying to snap them off the tree and always ended up with way more wood than we needed. Hope the next campers in that area appreciated all the extra firewood.

Not as romantic or nostalgic as it might seem from a college dorm room perspective.

Not much money, either.

this. unless you've got an almost industrial setup with huge machines you won't turn a profit in scandinavia. it's okay as a form of exercise or a by-product of removing shade tho

Have been cutting and stacking firewood to split next year to sell in small packages. At my buddies gas station
Going to make a killing doing it

Forgot picture

I have maybe a cord and a half already cut and stacked (not all pictured. Thi. Is slightly more than a cord and have another 5-10/ dead standing cords. On my small amount of property that will be dowed. This. Year. Or next year
>>
>>621653
> slightly more than a cord

Can you tell me the dimensions of a full cord?
>>
>>621656
4by 4 by 8. Iirc
Pic related. Is probably slightly over 5 ft tall 10-12 ft long. And. 4 ish ft wide
Nothing exact. But still
>>
>>621658
> afaik correct

Scale and could not see back stack had me wonder what goes for a cord in your area.

Always hated fags that load up a shortbed fleetside to the rails and called it a "1/2 cord".

Fucking New Mexico.
>>
>>621681
Cord. Latley. Goes for 2-250. Plus. A delivery fee (usually $30). And. Sometimes a stacking fee. Of $10-30)

Though. I'm going to be selling in small packages (as per request of gas station owner) of only about 7 pieces of split wood. That is supposedly 3/4 a cube

Il be making 2-4 per bundle. And he will be making 4-8.

I think he will want 1-2 corda. Maybe more. So. I should do reasonably well

And no. I always try to slightly underestimate. So no one ever gets shorted
>all hand split
Fug

I actually love my fiskars splitting axe. For the smaller stuff
Larger stuff isn't bad either but for that I use a wedge usually

There is a bit of retarded with my Husky.
Like the chain tensioner is just a bunch of stupid.
On a typical chainsaw you'd have a screw that you turn with a screwdriver and adjust the chain that way.
Well.. it's better since you don't need a screwdriver, but you've basically got Gears transfering turns up the big screw. Now the first two are metal, those are perfectly fine.
But the 3rd one, the one you're turning by yourself is plastic and it's fucked.

My dad actually has an older Husky (from his father) which is still in good condition but needs a carb rebuild, which is something we're planning to do during the winter.

Also have a small Homelite Bandit chainsaw that just needs a new spark plug (which is actually hard as fuck to find because it's not a metric size, since it's an American saw.)

>>621541
Well we're burning it. But it's actually fairly decent money. A cubic meter costs about 40€ depending on the season. If you've got enough land and a tractor you can turn quite a profit.
>>
>>621653
If I'm out and I think I might return to a place in the future I will often place some fire wood between two trees for future use, it only takes about twenty minutes to get a nice little pile going.
>>
>>621688
On a trail crew here, we were tasked to fell and split two cords by hand to prep a backcountry cabin. that was a rough couple of days

>technically we should've used crosscuts in designated wilderness but fuck that shit

Nextdoor neighbor got a face cord of split firewood delivered for $80 all up, here in metro Detroit.

For those who cut/split already downed or dead trees what are your go-to species and how do you identify them?

I have a hard time figuring out what I'm looking at if the leaves are already gone. Would suck to mix up an Elm for a white ash for example.

pic related are my firewood getting tools.
>>
>>621722
Two cords. Isn't too bad. Hand splitting is a bit slow. But I'm in no rush, if I have a working splitter. And have wood precut to length me and one other capable individual can split about a cord. An hour
>>621746
Well seasoned? And that's only 16 or so inches deep. A full cord. Is 4 ft. Deep
>>
>>621751
those saws are king
>>
>>621047
I love collecting firewood. Gives me an excuse to go hiking on beautiful days. Plus the exercise from dragging all the wood back is just an added bonus.
>>
>>621755
Yea, the volume itself isn't too bad. Finding dead standing trees that aren't piss fir and then moving all the rounds is the real bitch.

Yeah. The guy is from somewhere up near Port Huron and came down in a F350 towing a huge ass double-axle trailer with a q.t. wife/girlfriend in yoga pants, who was helping to unload the firewood.

> And that's only 16 or so inches deep. A full cord. Is 4 ft. Deep

That's why it's called a face cord, not a full cord.

My neighbor has a family room addition with regular fireplace and it's used more for ambiance on the weekends then heating.

Nice. You like the Mtronic? I want to pick up a 241C-M for limbing and small stuff. I hear it rips once you mod the muffler. Spendy though.

I run pic related for my firewood duties. It's an older saw, but pulls 3/8 full comp on a 20" bar no problem.
