Got a favorite?
yosemite, no question
that being said, it is really upsetting how many fucking people are there at all months of the year
Big Bend
Only one I've been to :/
zion is nice too, actually, all utah parks are fucking great
arches is a little touristy, but what can you do
>>615733
Ever been to Sequoia before? It was usually pretty empty whenever I lived out west.
>>615725
I'm pretty fond of Mt. Rainier NP.
Yellowstone, but only in the fall or winter.
Spring and summer is it overrun with busloads of Indians and Chinamen.
>>615777
i was there in late may and it was empty. half the park wa still closed. it was glorious.
I had a pretty awesome time at Great Basin NP a few months back.
No hordes of tourists.

>>615725
Coastal Redwoods
Grand Teton
Yosemite
Yellowstone
Badlands
There is my list.
Never been to a National Park. Closest is like 6 hours away.
Sadface.jpg
I've only been to Denali.
>>615767
yea, sequoia is nice, little bit dry right now because of the drought, but you're right, it is less crowded
>>616379
I can just baaaarely tolerate the fact that I'm not at Denali right this second.
>>616402
It's so beautiful there. I'd love to make it back, but I want to visit another NP before I return.
>>616421
How about... Glacier NP!
I spent a few very memorable fall days there. Never had so many unsettlingly close encounters with large ungulates before or since.
>>616402
>>616440
I live in Montana, Glacier>Chinkowstone
>>615725

Zion is home for me, I live only a few miles from it.
>>615725
My local De Soto National. Nobody knows about it and its comfy.
Smoky Mountains.
Been working through White Mountain National Forest on weekends since moving to Massachusetts.
Made the mistake of going there on Columbus day. It was like fucking disneyland in the mountains. I almost ran over several asians walking into the highway to take selfies.
I'm from the south, and I had never been in proper evergreen forests. There are long sections of trail that smell like Christmas and the trees are so dense that you can't see through them, so it'll be like 5 miles of 25 foot high walls of pine trees
>>615755
Going to Zion in the summer is great. There are less people so its possible to get a campground in the southern canyon and the heat encourages you to spend your nights looking at the stars and wake up early to escape the heat. Zion is best park
>>615733
the amount of people there turned it off for me, getting a campsite is near impossible and traffic is disgusting. The best time was when i was on one of the back trails away from the clusterfuck of tourists
>>615743
Big Bend is cool. I went in June and it was hot at lower altitudes but nice in the mountains. I got to cross into Boquillas, Mexico even though that place is a dump
>>615767
Those are some big cunting trees
My favorite place on the planet
Jasper National Park in Canada is my closest National Park. Well technically Elk Island is. If you're into pure wild Buffalo that is a nice place. But Jasper is more beautiful.
Volcano National Park, Hawaii
Spent last week down in Halape. (pic related)
I grew up a couple hours from Grand Canyon, so it prolly takes the cake over Volcano, way more back country options in the GC.
>>619466
That's very pretty. I want to like it more than I do, but have a substantial aversion to tropical climates. The blue water, the verdant clime, all nice, but difficult in application. Damn practicality.
Fortunately ice and stone and sky so close it seems you can touch it is fine too.
Blue Mountains National Park, Australia.
Acadia
>>620434
Just spent the last two days in Acadia. Weather is shit today. Nice place and not too crowded. Pic is from the Beehive.
Overall Yellowstone/Grand Teton is god tier.
>>618976
'Sup Edmonton?
I agree, Jasper is the best.
Merritt island national wetlands park
Place is pretty cool. Connected to playalinda beach with the Indian river lagoon opposite to it, but most of the area is marshland. That isn't to say that there isn't solid ground, however. There are plenty of trails to explore and it's a great area to fish. You have to appreciate its saltiness.
>>620613

Channel Islands National Park
It's not one that has spectacular waterfalls or sheer cliffs, but each island is unique.
>some of the most biodiverse oceans on the planet
>largest sea cave on the planet
>home of the oldest human remains found in North America
>near solitude, as it's difficult to get out there
>pygmy mammoths and cute island foxes
>>615780
I thought your pic was in a black and white from the thumbnail. I love gloomy days like that.
>>618391
my nigga
Can't believe nobody has said King's Canyon & Sequoia. It's Yosemite with less people and in my opinion more breathtaking views. Past Road's End there's almost nobody.
>>621213
yeah man that whole day was pretty magical. i was out driving through jellystone for about 8 hours that day and the only other person i saw was a park ranger, we passed each other twice going opposite directions throughout the day.
>>621243

>>615767
i agree, sequoia national park is amazing. Probably not my favorite but I can't seem to pick one, so many beautiful places on this planet.
Just returned from backpacking in Wallowa STATE park, hope it still counts. It was wonderful and we literally did not see one person out there the whole trip.
Related pic is from google, lazy.
Big desert National Park/Wyperfeld National park.
Went there with my brother and his work buddy a few years ago and have wanted a 4WD ever since. Literally nothing but bush, sand and big ass sand dunes.
>>621243
I'm kind of biased since it's only a 2 hour drive from where I live, but it sure is a great place to get away from it all.
This was from early October
>>615755
Zion, Canyon lands, Bryce, Cedar Breaks, all those parks are incredible.
Arches was cool but actually kind of a let down after seeing the other parks
Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve in BC, Canada. I kinda happened there by chance this summer, hadn't heard of it before I got there. And neither have most people in Canada, nevermind North America and the world. It's absolutely otherworldly beautiful, but so remote. It's on the biggest island off the BC coast, just south of where the Alaskan archipelago of islands begins. Takes 7-8 hours to get to the island on a ferry, and while the island itself is an amazing/welcoming place to visit, the park is something else. It's a remoteness within a remoteness. There are no roads in the entire park. It's only accessible by kayak, boat, and floatplane. So worth it.
>>615725
Canada here.
White Goat Wilderness Area is my current favorite.
Foot access only - nearest road is about 10km+ out - no horses, bikes or motorized vehicles allowed. I have never seen another person in the park at the same time as me. The remoteness, freedom, scenery and scrambling/mountaineering options are absolutely incredible.
>>621494
did you see any wildlife? bears?
>>621470
i wish i had the time and the friend circle with the same free time to do a boating trip around haida gwaii. seems like such a serene and isolated place.
>>621494
Can you camp in that park/are there trails?
>>621515
that'd be a cool trip. Except that a lot of the waters around HG are really tricky, so you'd have to be pretty expert level at sailing, just in case. Hecate Strait is know as some of the most treacherous waters on the northwest coast, and the west side of the island can be rough going too
It's a really unique place, nothing else like it in North America. "Galapagos of Canada"
>national parks
disgusting
I will add Glacier as well.
I have never been to a national park I havent liked.
>Glacier
>Olympic
>Sequoia
>Redwood
>Great Smoky Mountains
>Yellowstone
>Theodore Roosevelt
>Crater Lake
>North Cascades
Also, in Canada
>Banff
>Jasper
>Waterton
>>620256
you sound it.
>Damn practicality
Lassen National Park, bar none. I used to like Yosemite, but for working here over the summer, and part of the fall for 2 years I'm over it. Too many folks here. Part of the outdoor experience for me is getting away from people. I would say a huge part of it. The next national park I wish to visit is Olympic. Anyone been there?
>>621745
Yea, it's one of my favs. Do the easy trails near Hurricane Ridge, or head to Obstruction Point for backcountry. Sol Duc is cool. Hoh has some giant trees but I like the Quinault area more. La Push has a more reclusive beach than Ruby, but obviously harder to get to. July-August is all but guaranteed sunny weather
>>615733
Same, all I want is to me /out/ by myself. I almost only to go to Tuolumne or do backpacking into the areas with little to no people
great smoky mountains

Also Great Smoky Mts.

Voyageurs
Loads of good water to fish and islands to camp on. Good backcountry hiking with some ponds sprinkled through it. Very few people and the ones there are mostly legit /out/ers like fishermen and cross country skiers.

Is that a 4wd westy? It might be a meme car, but that doesn't make me want one any less.
I ultimately want to get a 4wd van, someone on here suggested putting the drive train from an f-series truck into the equivalent E-Series van, don't know if that's nonsense or not.
>>621243
Dude, which one is that? I went there as a kid and have been meaning to go back, for the reasons you stated.
>>624124
It can be done with a bit of work. Quigley does a 4x4 E-series conversion, but they're pretty coveted.
If you're willing to settle for AWD vs 4WD, Astro/Safari vans are popular as are Previa alltracs. The older Toyota LE vans can be found in 4x4, but it's hard to find one that doesn't have 200k+ miles, a rusted body and has been stolen six times.

Not a poster but edmonton based. Kik is m4a1carbinw
went to the newest national park for the first time since it's been upgraded from a monument. scouting a new climbing area with the kiddo. we'll be going back a couple more times in the next week.
also, picked up an america the beautiful pass, since i'm a lock for pinns and ynp annuals, and together they're the same cost as the all parks annual pass. definitely gonna hit seki, j tree and lassen with it, hopefully death valley, maybe even zion if we can make the car ride with the little guy.
>>624110

>The name "Smoky" comes from the natural fog that often hangs over the range

So glad I went to Bangor.
I know its touristy, but rocky mountain is one of my favorites of the ones I've been to. Another awesome one is the badlands, but its really only cool to take a drive through in my opinion.
>>618391
ayyye Chattanooga resident here
>>622036
I've been to clingmans dome about 10 times and its only been clear of fog twice.
Kakadu National Park
Unfortunately there aren't really any national parks within a few hundred kilometers of where I live, plenty of provincial parks right close by though, favourite would probably have to be Garibaldi.
Of the parks I've been to
>Death Valley
>Joshua Tree
>Kings Canyon
>Lassen
>Sequoia
>Yosemite
>Petrified Forest
>Saguaro
>Grand Canyon
>Haleakala
>Crater Lake
>Arches
>Bryce Canyon
>Capitol Reef
>Canyonlands
>Zion
Can't say I have a favorite, but top three are Lassen, Zion, and Canyonlands. And I'm really itching to see Glacier, Tetons, Olympic, and anything in Alaska obviously. BC as well even if not 'murikan' but when I'm done with school I plan to live in a rural part of WA so I'll make it happen.
Pic unrelated; my local biosphere since all my photos are on external HD.
>>628973
where abouts in lassen did you hike to? Found it boring after a few hikes off the main road through the park but coming down from the cinder cone was pretty fun.
>>616376
South Carolina fag... I know the feels man
>>629376
Samefagging here, but I hit the bottom.of the thread and I'm like heartbroken that between Uni and Subway indont have so much as a weekend to myself.
So /out/ living in the terrible southeast, where can I take a weekend to and escape?
>>629415
Smokies would be a good spot. Utilize the mountainous terrain of the beautiful neighboring state of Tennessee.
>>629002
Not him, but when I went the trail to the summit of Lassen Peak was open. Alpine lake and clear views, would go again.
>>629376
>>629471
Lassen was great because of the memories I had in my two trips. I went up to the summit in late May when it was covered in snow and before it had officially opened. I was also alone, and the only other person there was a guy looking for his friend's camera since his friend had broken his leg there earlier in the day falling through some snow. Despite this, and being nearly dusk I summited alone, and came down in the dark. It was stupid, but it was feat for other reasons I won't mention here.
Aside from that, I did the Cinder cone, which is my personal favorite part of Lassen for it's unreal landscape. And I did a few other trails like the Devil's kitchen? and hot springs.
>>629415
if you live in SC, head on up to WNC, or even into three states for Elicott Rock Wilderness.
GSMNP is just the coffee-table-magazine tip of the iceberg to the southern Appalachians.
>>615755
Arches was pretty but it mostly consisted of driving around to the next thing.
>>620560
Beehive has good views but Precipice is a lot more fun.

You've been to another world when you've seen a very still lake in Glacier National Park.
>>629376
Could always roll up to NC. Just got back from Crowders Mountain today. More people than I'd like, but once we hopped the fence blocking one end of the trail and got to actually climbing the mountain it was great.
You can barely see it in this pic, buy if you look on the horizon you'll see downtown Charlotte.
Koli is prolly the nicest I've been to.
Hey guys, I want work at a national park full time for at least 5 years. Any suggestions for which parks to be employed at? It needs to have accommodations for room and board. Thanks!
>>634704
If becoming a ranger is what you have in mind, you need a background of Criminal Justice, they don't just hire any hippy who says he wants to live and work amongst nature
>>634704
you better know somebody, or be super fucking qualified. positions like that are extremely popular and limited.
>>634708
I was hoping to fulfill any position that was vacant.
>>634710
Didn't know it was that hard. I heard that if you were planning on working full time it wouldn't be too hard to find work. I was looking at Xanterra and willing to fulfill any position at any national park in America. This should surely widen my chances.
>>634711
>wouldn't be too hard to find work
that line gets spread so that people actually bother to apply, but there's always huge demand for entry level positions in parks. so you need to either
a) already be in the system (prior seasonal experience)
b) have connections/references in the system
c) be ridiculously over qualified
Sleeping Bear Dunes, easily.
>>634841
fuck yes. not favorite though.
Go there every December 28th for my birthday with my faggot friends. We smoke weed at the farthest north east bluff and roll snowballs down the dune into the lake. Its pretty insane how long a bunch of stoners can be entertained with that.
>Death Valley
>Zion
>Bryce Canyon
>Petrified Forest
>Grand Canyon
>Rocky Mountains
>Grand Teton
>Yellowstone
>Canyonlands
>Arches
>Black Canon of the Gunnison
>Great Sand Dunes
Those are the one I visited this year in two separates road trip. My favorite would be Death Valley, Yellowstone, Grand Teton and Great Sand Dunes. Probably going to Rainier, Cascade, Olympic, Yosemite and Crater this winter.
>>623734
No mention of The Smoky Mountains would be complete without including a shot of the synchronous fireflies.
Jewel Cave because I got to explore off the tourist trail with my boss who also was recently part of a team that found the 180th mile AND found the water table.
>>634711
Just a warning, Xanterra is a horrible company. They overcharge their employees for food and housing and pay them shit wages.
No one Isle Royale here?
Been twice, for almost a month total.
They told me it is the most revisited Nat Park.
It is also one of the most remote. Almost no one there ever.
Though it isn't "unspoiled beauty" - there are a few old mines which are fun to explore and like a handful or people still live there.
Lots of old fishing cabins and cottages too.
I am a fan of the Höga Kusten park.
One of the nicest places of Sweden in my opinion.
>>615767
I once caught a golden trout there. I think they've all hybridized with the rainbows by now though.

I really liked Grand Teton. I was lucky enough to get to work at Signal Mountain Lodge for a summer about a decade ago. Absolute heaven.
Grand Canyon (north rim).
>>628131
You climbed Barney? Been looking at doing it but kinda not keen in summer.
I live in the smokies and I have to say it's pretty nice here year round.
