To be fair on 'em i didn't stay long and it was after 4 nights cruising the highlands...

We had a bad first impression though, and didn't stick round to change it. We got to stornoway and saw our first scally kids of the whole trip, drove over barren featureless moorland and saw only pebble dashed council looking houses (they looked like council houses here on merseyside) and found nowhere good to car-sleep, so took what we could get and booked a ferry home the next day. While waiting for the ferry we drove about a bit, stopped in a dead pub for lunch where the wife and daughter of the boss-man had that 'daddy kisses with his fists please don't make him angry' look and the only two fellas there were talking about how they were going down to the docks later to see if there was any work going that day. Went to a museum where pic related was about as interesting as it got. Saw the stones and had a nice coffee which was a good thing. Some nice scenery but compared to the highlands we'd just come from it was pretty unexciting. Everybody looked depressed like in a northern mining town after the pits have shut down.

We gtfo'd and the highlands with their awesome views everywhere greeted us, and we camped on a beautiful shoreline 2 min walk from a tea room for breakfast (fuck yeah).

I've since heard it gets better than that though.

I like the beaches, miles of white, sandy beaches, and Harris is nice, and mountainous. I do think they should plant some forests, mind you, plenty room.

Yeah we went because we'd seen pics of the beaches but didn't stick around to find any, bad first impressions and all... Nice stars though I'll give 'em that.
>>

I really do wish we'd found a nice beach though. Was a little chilly for beaches at the time I suppose that didn't help keep us there.

I'd still visit to camp/bike though. At least you don't have to worry about Bears and other large predatory animals.

Absolutely. I particularly liked the Hebrides, we did an impromptu scotch tour to Islay and Jura. The trossachs were nice, but once we were into the actual highlands I fell in love.

Pic semi related, farm where I stayed on my way north just before going through trossachs np and Loch Lomond.

One of the most beautiful places I've ever been with a great diversity of scenery. You go one way and it's sweeping hills and heather, go another and it's antique architecture and cozy towns, go yet another and it's a rocky valley with lush foliage. The only thing that seemed 'missing' were densely forested areas, areas considered forest constituted a larger stand of trees compared to elsewhere. I fell in love with too many places there to ever choose a favorite.

I was going to try and make a funny story but I am incredibly bad at writing and if I tried to make a long green text story it would be shit. So I am just going to post some images hopefully you guys understand.

But basically about a year ago i decided to walk up Scotlands highest mountain in the middle of winter with no knowledge or understanding of how to be /out/ I had never lurked this board or tried to walk up a mountain from the bottom before.

It starts out fine a nice walk up a typical Scottish hill i am thinking to my self those signs saying i need crampons and stuff were porbably for tryhards.

this basically
virtually no natural forest, what forest you do see, is all intensively managed conifer plantations.
IIRC natural forest in Scotland has been reduced to about 5% of what it was 200 years ago, just via clearing for livestock. Also, the 'midges' are a motherfucker.
Still, a great place though. Would love to visit again.
It's stunningly beautiful, and it's hard to put into words exactly why. Obviously the lack of forrested areas, opening up the expansive views is a part of it. I think maybe it's too do with proportions. Nothings too large, or overtly dramatic. It's all just correct. And the colours too.
>>
>>598809
That can only end horribly.

There's a reason wolves are exctinct in Britain.
>>
>>605639

It may end horribly for some sheep and deer. Wolf attacks on humans are very rare. Considering how the reintroduction would be monitored there would be very little risk to people.
