I play a lot of these. If you're a non-PC master race, good luck finding good ones. Steam has a lot of promising ones in alpha and beta.
-the long dark
-the forest
-Rust
-dayZ (more zombies though)
-Minecraft with mods and texture packs (lies realistic but there are many ways to play this game)

I really liked MGS3. It's a great game but it has a some survivalism features as well as camouflage system and field medicinary stuff too.

DayZ sucks

I'm a fan of MGS too but calling it an /out/ game is equivalent to calling NFS a car simulator.

Dear Esther
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter (I think >>491505 is a screenshot from it)

I think a lot of the computer game community don't like these, I see comments about them "not being games" because they don't have any guns or you don't collect coins, but they're both narrative driven adventures where you wonder around beautiful scenery at a walking pace.

The Long Dark is a survival game that's about making it in the frozen Canadian wilderness. I only gave that one a quick try but it looks promising.
>>
>>491528
You can go camping, hunting and fishing in DayZ

It would be a good /out/ game if it wasn't for the killers and zombies. As of now it sucks but I think it will get much better
>>
>>491548
Yeah DayZ is one of the few games that has captured the scale of the countryside. I think it's how sluggish and slow the movement is, because it's designed to be this military simulation, the game world actually feels appropriately sized. You can spend half an hour just trekking through some woods.
>>
>>491510

-long dark is fun for about 8 hours of gameplay until you realize how terribly unfinished it is. There is nothing to do.
-the forest. same problem.
-rust, alpha rust was awesome. WTF were they thinking changing it so much. total crap now
-day z. ugh. let me know when that game is fixed then maybe it will be fun

minecraft....

Every other cabela is an unplayable shit but this is goat.
There is a mission where you have to kill two grizzly with a fucking bow.
>>
They released a game that's similar to Dayz but far more fluid called H1Z1.

Skyrim also has some mods which enhance its realism, adding warmth/hypothermia, campfires, hunger, fishing, and sleepiness. Honestly, it's as good as your probably going to get.

What about loneliness
>>
/out/ is a pretty broad topic, so generally "it depends on what you mean".

That said, these games I enjoy for the same reasons I enjoy going out:

STALKER
Dwarf Fortress adventure mode
Knytt, Knytt Stories, An Untitled Story
Super Metroid
Cave Story
Morrowind
Nehrim (Oblivion Total conversion)
Ico
Shadow Of The Colossus
>>
>>491581
Does it come with a USB UV-light plugin to provide much-needed vitamin D to the user, along with the semblance of sunlight on their pasty skin?
>>
>>491584
You might find a mod for that on the LoversLab website

Morrowind
>>
>>491498
Alan wake, preferably on PC, most of the campaign is set in forests, camping grounds or in a small town in the mountains, you also kill lumberjacks!
>>
>>491716
Want to add, its a Steven king inspired horror game, so its got a great story to it too. Really made me want to go fishing and hiking in and around small towns after playing it

I need to try to get into this again. Last time I tried, I love 90% of the game but despite my best efforts couldn't get past the clunky controls.

Every time I see this faggotry I imagine it coming from some crotchety old man who needs his shit wiped by a team of nurses.

You know video games don't come with a contract saying you need to dedicate your blood, sweat, piss, shit and tears towards playing it right?

I have been playing Cabela's Big Game Hunter: Pro Hunts for ps3 lately and having fun with it. I usually do a free roam hunt before bed to unwind. The sounds of nature are very realistic and there are really cool fall colors in some of the forests.

Plus, I have never actually been hunting, so I feel like I'm learning some introductory level stuff. I have a much better idea of where to shoot an animal and what angle, if you dont want to spoil the meat by hitting its stomach.
>>
If you don't pay for a subscription, The Hunter is basically a free hiking sim.
>>
The Forest is /out/ as fuck
I remember a game where you're a castaway on a tropical island and need to build shelter etc but I never played it and don't know the name
>>
>>491591
SoC and Morrowind were the best
>>
Just hop on steam and search the tag "survival", ridiculous amount of games on there, you just gotta sift through all the bull crap.

>Miasmata
>The Forest
>NEO Scavenger < awesome game
>Unreal World < most /out/ game of all time
>Frontiers
>Stranded 2
>Wayward
>DarkWood
>Stomping Land
>Salt
>Haven and Hearth

Probably forgetting a ton, but thats a good start.
>>
TheHunter is a nice calm game. I often catch myself just wandering around looking at the scenery rather than hunting.
>>
>>493439

Yeah just conveniently leave out the perma-death and the massive beginner's curve

Without a doubt, Cataclysm DDA is one of my favourites.
I prefer the aski graphics to the tilesets, but its still good. I think the monsters add a great amount to the game, plus, 100% free
>>
I bought the Vanishing of Ethan Carter yesterday after reading this thread. Gotta say that I was disappointed. The story was pretty lame in my opinion and it wasn't spooky at all despite it being labeled as a survival horror game. The story made the game depressing rather than scary/mysterious/interesting.

You are aware the developers ran away with all their early access money and abandoned it right? Leaving a buggy shell of a "game" that will never be completed. It's even been removed from Steam that's how much of a shit storm it caused. Not sure why you would recommend that.

>>494184
Only bought it for it's art style to be honest. It has the best foliage I've ever seen in any game. Story is shit and the puzzles are easy as fuck. Yeah, it's a mediocre game. But buying it cheap in a sale for a screenshot walking simulator, it's worth it.

Same here. I actually don't care for the hunting in it though because it's too easy and lacks any of the real elements that are enjoyable about the real thing like reading deer sign and the landscape.

But for a relaxing before-bed "hike" it's nice. I like checking out the points of interest.

Noone has mentioned 7 Days to Die or did I just miss it?

Zombie survival but somewhat outish in the beginning at least. Lots of nature, harvesting and crafting, hunting and building. But eventuely you'll be sitting inside some castle all geared up and more important things on your mind than crafting stone axes.
