There is a rumor that gold mined on the nearby Army base was transported out of it though, since mining on military reservations is illegal.

I can't help but feel that there was a better way to secure that firearm.

Also, why an AK innawoods? I get that their ammo is cheap (assuming 7.62x39) but I never figured them for much of a hunter or /out/-plinker. More of a range plinker or SHTF gun.
>>
>>468693
AK is what I take innawoods too, I just love it so much.
>>
when you guys do stuff like this, do you go by yourself or with people? This is just a general question but i feel like it didn't deserve it's own thread.
>>
>>468735
Sometimes by myself, sometimes with other people. Depends on what I feel like and what I'm doing.
>>
>>468693
AKs are actually fantastic guns in dense woodlands. Shorter than a standard hunting rifle, so easier to get through the woods, and while it does have a decreased accurate range, when the farthest clear shot you're ever going to get is 100 yards to the other side of a meadow, it's more than accurate enough.

Went to the Adirondacks last week, at and around Gore Mountain. I stayed on Loon lake. It was pretty incredible, my buddy and I climbed the hill behind the cottage and watched the sunset. The picture doesn't do it justice whatsoever, I was in the middle of getting a fire going. it's really the first time I've ever seen anything like it and I can't wait to see more this summer. Anyone got any recommendations for outings in New York? I'm around Syracuse and distance isn't really limited.

They used to use donkeys to pull equipment through mines since horses and drafts didn't fit, only the donkeys would go blind from the darkness if they were kept in it for too long.
After they went blind they would just turn them loose in the desert as opposed to killing an otherwise healthy animal. Some of the wild burros we still have out here are descendants of the ones from the mines.

Hi.
I was /out/ yetserday walked 8 miles into the wilderness, made a fireplace, drank some coffee from thermos and read a book. I don't own a camera but I can buy one and take some pics if you want to see old, inviolate wilderness.

I have cancer so I have a trouble sleeping so I go /out/ instead and the woods and the animals are awesome.

why do you hate the Australian bush?

why is Blue Mountains so shit?

what would be a more fun alternative? I live in Melbourne, I'm on the hunt for good camping spots that are a train & bike ride away for one-night weekend adventures.
>>
>>487066
The Australian bush is dry and dusty, and there's no grass. There are no nice open flat areas, and the ground is made of sticks and stones. I yearn for actual forests and woodlands. Also, every second tree has a spiderweb hanging off it. You basically can't leave the trail at any point because the scrub is too thick, and most of the Blue Mountains doesn't even allow you to have campfires. It's really not good for anything other than simple day trip bushwalks.
>>
>>487070
that sounds fucked. I don't mind spiders but thick scrub and fucked up ground is a real shame.

I'm thinking of going and hanging out in Tasmania, maybe that will be different.

if you wanna be good at the job you wont be having much time to go hiking besides the weekend or whenever study hall is closed.
weekdays your schedule is pretty much 530 to 1730 daily, and room check is at about 2100 dependant upon how cool your PSGs are. weekends youll want to hike but wont be able to wear civilians while hiking until you hit Gold Phase, so about 2 months in, again this can depend upon your PSG or 1 SG guidance.

As for weather. if you go to basic in summer you should be hitting the desert winter during AIT. doesnt get that cold but feels a fuckload colder because of wind. Oh and get really good at running before you go to basic because once you get to Huachuca its about 5000 ft elevation at the post and hats how most people fail their runs on the PT test. (Ex: ran a 15:45 at huachuca and a 12:30 at sea level)
If you have any questions about the MOS feel free to reply to me or post another thread here if the mods will allow, fellow Fox here.
>>
>>491282
Thanks man! It's always great to get insight from someone who isn't a recruiter. I'll be going to basic in the fall, and figured I wouldn't have much free time at ait anyway.

What did you do day to day once you where stationed? I know it's different for every fox but as long as I do well at ait I won't be stuck doing security passes in Georgia right?

>>
>>491285
honestly depends on where your stationed man, security passes can be pretty good hahaha.
If you go to a BCT youre likley to be doing details (connex diving,PMCS,mowing lawns, etc) unless you deploy or are in the field. You could also go strategic which would allow you to do your job on the daily. its all luck of the draw. Doing well in AIT doesnt mean anything as to where youll get stationed unless youre selected for a quick start position.
>>
>>491706
Tahoe is one of my favorite places to go for nice day-hikes. It's just so accessible. I usually go to trails around South Lake but I'm looking to go to Mt. Judah/Donner Pass region and do some hiking around there this June. I highly recommend going, right now it's still pretty cold but May and June are perfect months, not too popular with the partying summer crowds, but great weather for hiking.
