Sup /out/, just got back from a little hike and thought id share some pics.
Lets get an adventure photo thread goin.
Region is SE Arizona btw.
I ended up hiking up to an abandoned mine. How those miners got equipment like this up those steep ass trails is beyond me.
>>467817
Looks fun OP, this was my day.
>>467835
Apparently i forgot to take a pic of the actual mine, but here's a little collapsed shaft.
>>467850
what were they mining?
once my dumbass self tromped across the tailings of a uranium mine.

>>467860
Tungsten afaik. Thats it on the left.
There is a rumor that gold mined on the nearby Army base was transported out of it though, since mining on military reservations is illegal.
Miners gettin that refreshment.

Here's a few more of the mines old cabin site.
>>468437
Would totally road trip in that. I need to get my hands on one.

I thought I recognized the strata.
>>468609
I can't help but feel that there was a better way to secure that firearm.
Also, why an AK innawoods? I get that their ammo is cheap (assuming 7.62x39) but I never figured them for much of a hunter or /out/-plinker. More of a range plinker or SHTF gun.
>>468693
AK is what I take innawoods too, I just love it so much.
when you guys do stuff like this, do you go by yourself or with people? This is just a general question but i feel like it didn't deserve it's own thread.
>>468735
Sometimes by myself, sometimes with other people. Depends on what I feel like and what I'm doing.
>>468693
AKs are actually fantastic guns in dense woodlands. Shorter than a standard hunting rifle, so easier to get through the woods, and while it does have a decreased accurate range, when the farthest clear shot you're ever going to get is 100 yards to the other side of a meadow, it's more than accurate enough.
Australia
Went for a hike and swim today.
>>468735
Only one of the people I hang with likes /out/ shit and he has two kids so I usually end up goin out by myself.
I actually enjoy the solitude but again it's really up to you and what you'd prefer.
>>468735
Whatever I feel like. Sometimes alone, sometimes with friends, sometimes alone because I'm the only one that has time at that specific date, or I'm too lazy to call people, arrange a meeting, etc.

Went to the Adirondacks last week, at and around Gore Mountain. I stayed on Loon lake. It was pretty incredible, my buddy and I climbed the hill behind the cottage and watched the sunset. The picture doesn't do it justice whatsoever, I was in the middle of getting a fire going. it's really the first time I've ever seen anything like it and I can't wait to see more this summer. Anyone got any recommendations for outings in New York? I'm around Syracuse and distance isn't really limited.
We did some ski tours in the last weeks
Got outside and into the woods for a few hours, decided its long over due to have a cup of tea in a nice surrounding.

They are robust and work in any condition, compact, and is perfect incase you something pops off up innawoods. Got a two hour response time at my house for the cops to show, so you got a long ways before help arrives if something was to happen innawoods.

They used to use donkeys to pull equipment through mines since horses and drafts didn't fit, only the donkeys would go blind from the darkness if they were kept in it for too long.
After they went blind they would just turn them loose in the desert as opposed to killing an otherwise healthy animal. Some of the wild burros we still have out here are descendants of the ones from the mines.

I'm always alone, because my friends don't like the outdoors other than car camping and my gf is the same way except she's also fat.

Hi.
I was /out/ yetserday walked 8 miles into the wilderness, made a fireplace, drank some coffee from thermos and read a book. I don't own a camera but I can buy one and take some pics if you want to see old, inviolate wilderness.
I have cancer so I have a trouble sleeping so I go /out/ instead and the woods and the animals are awesome.

No that guy but I have done many 6+ day hikes in skate shoes.... they are comfy, no blisters good grip eacept in muddy crap but I find thats not at critical spots like rocky peaks ect they have better traction than hiking boots on wet rock IMO. But hey each top their own. Ps to fellow Ausfag nice jelly bean shirt mate.... too bad its getting fazed out

Neat, nice find.
>>486469
why do you hate the Australian bush?
why is Blue Mountains so shit?
what would be a more fun alternative? I live in Melbourne, I'm on the hunt for good camping spots that are a train & bike ride away for one-night weekend adventures.
>>487066
The Australian bush is dry and dusty, and there's no grass. There are no nice open flat areas, and the ground is made of sticks and stones. I yearn for actual forests and woodlands. Also, every second tree has a spiderweb hanging off it. You basically can't leave the trail at any point because the scrub is too thick, and most of the Blue Mountains doesn't even allow you to have campfires. It's really not good for anything other than simple day trip bushwalks.
>>487070
that sounds fucked. I don't mind spiders but thick scrub and fucked up ground is a real shame.
I'm thinking of going and hanging out in Tasmania, maybe that will be different.
>>473108
Sorry just saw this a month later lol. If you're still curious it's in Redding, CA. Sort of near Whiskeytown lake

Ayy.. seniorfag looking at going 35f in the fall, so ill be doing ait there I suppose. How is it there?
>>491241
if you wanna be good at the job you wont be having much time to go hiking besides the weekend or whenever study hall is closed.
weekdays your schedule is pretty much 530 to 1730 daily, and room check is at about 2100 dependant upon how cool your PSGs are. weekends youll want to hike but wont be able to wear civilians while hiking until you hit Gold Phase, so about 2 months in, again this can depend upon your PSG or 1 SG guidance.
As for weather. if you go to basic in summer you should be hitting the desert winter during AIT. doesnt get that cold but feels a fuckload colder because of wind. Oh and get really good at running before you go to basic because once you get to Huachuca its about 5000 ft elevation at the post and hats how most people fail their runs on the PT test. (Ex: ran a 15:45 at huachuca and a 12:30 at sea level)
If you have any questions about the MOS feel free to reply to me or post another thread here if the mods will allow, fellow Fox here.
>>491282
Thanks man! It's always great to get insight from someone who isn't a recruiter. I'll be going to basic in the fall, and figured I wouldn't have much free time at ait anyway.
What did you do day to day once you where stationed? I know it's different for every fox but as long as I do well at ait I won't be stuck doing security passes in Georgia right?
nice maxped
Another norcal-friend here. Pic is from South Lake Tahoe last summer (Maggie's Peaks Trail I think) but I plan to go up there again in the next couple of months to see how it has changed because of the lack of snow this winter.
>>491302
It was really nice the day I went. Tahoe changes incredibly between winter and summer, but lately it has been sad to see that winter is slowly but surely getting shorter and shorter.
>>491302

>>491303
Other norcal fag here. Is Tahoe pretty nice? Those photos look gorgeous, and I've never been there. What area do you usually go to? I love Whiskeytown and Shasta Lake myself.
>>491285
honestly depends on where your stationed man, security passes can be pretty good hahaha.
If you go to a BCT youre likley to be doing details (connex diving,PMCS,mowing lawns, etc) unless you deploy or are in the field. You could also go strategic which would allow you to do your job on the daily. its all luck of the draw. Doing well in AIT doesnt mean anything as to where youll get stationed unless youre selected for a quick start position.
>>491706
Tahoe is one of my favorite places to go for nice day-hikes. It's just so accessible. I usually go to trails around South Lake but I'm looking to go to Mt. Judah/Donner Pass region and do some hiking around there this June. I highly recommend going, right now it's still pretty cold but May and June are perfect months, not too popular with the partying summer crowds, but great weather for hiking.
