Let's say you're hiking and you lost your backpack after falling in a river. You'very been swept downstream and become kinda lost. All you have is two pouches on your belt measuring 3"x6" (pic related). What would you want to be inside those pouches. Assume you have a belt made of 50' of woven paranoid and a relatively large knife Attached to that belt.

A magnesium block/ferrorod
A small, sharp folding knife
2 waterproof pillbottles stuffed with dryer lent (awesome tinder, pic related)
A thermal blanket
Fishing line, weights, hooks, power bait and some small lures.
Basic medication/bandages.
Where would you go from here?

I don't have anything attached to the outside of my belt but I'm currently using a modified: S.O. Tech Riggers SERE Belt.
I have the belt wrapped with both #12 & #36 bank line.
Lashed to the inside of the belt I have a small fixed blade.
Behind that is some steel picture wire.
The back pocket contains:
An aluminum foil contain reinforced with Hvac tap
1 Freezer bag
1 Small ferro rod
2 Cotton balls with Vaseline
I decided on this because it's low drag and meets 4 of the 5 C's.

What wood is suitable for the use your picture shows? Would hazel poles work or does the bark not come off that easily (plenty of hazel where I live but never tried to remove the bark like that).

Yeah, probably, but it was the first wood that came to mind because of the poles. I wonder if you have to do anything to it first like boil it or steam it?
I had two 100 Round Saw Pouches for an overnighter. Mounted in on a rigger belt.
Approximately 6.25"H x 3"D x 4.75"W
Filled them with the following:
- Four Granola Bars
- Fire Kit (Lighter + Vaseline Cotton Balls in Ziploc)
- Folding Knife clipped into the side of the pouch
- Contractor Bag (Emergency Poncho)
- Smaller Rubbish Bag
- Small First Aid Kit - Aspirin, Antihistamines, Band Aids, Gauze, Small roll of bandage inside a ziploc
- 5 Feet of Paracord
- Sharpie
- Hand Sanitizer
