Sup /o/. My grandpa just passed away and left his meticulously maintained '03 330CI to my dad, who has no need for it and wants to give it to me. It's a Red 5 speed with 130k miles. Should I drive it or sell it? I'm a student, have a job but it's mostly to offset the cost of my tuition. Is the maintenance and insurance gonna kill me? Or could I swing it?

Pic is not the same car, but same year, color, and level of maintenance.
>>
itll bankrupt you, sell it

t. not a brainwashed fanboy
>>
>>15439189
I inherited my grandpas E280, im going to keep it as long as possible. I use it for special occasions, mainly use my corrado for DD.

But it really depends on the financial situation. Inmyself couldnt bring myself to sell something that belonged to my gramps but to each their own
>>
Keep it yo, part of grandpa is in that car.

It would probably work ok as a DD but be prepared to take it to the shop
>>
>all these poorfags saying you can't DD a 13 year old BMW

Keep it and drive it for a while. Make sure you maintain it; they are surprisingly easy to service yourself if you are so inclined. All these broke ass snowflakes don't know shit. Once you sell it you'll regret it.
>>
>>15439189
Hey. I don't want to believe that, but if it's true, he's now in the land of free gas. In my opinion, if grandpa used to care about it, I'd drive it. That's a big... gift and even if you were to stance it or whatever we find cancerous but with the intention to maintain the condition, it will be seen as nice of you, if you care about such things. I find the front bumper happy looking and personally would take extra job activities paying for such a nice car.
>>
>>15439280
That isn't a ZHP either. Reverse search it.
>>

But for serious, keep the car, especially since it had been well maintained. I'm sure whatever that could go wrong with most BMW's of this age (cooling system, vanos, etc) has already been taken care of by your pops. Enjoy it man
>>

>>
>>15439365

>>
>>15439394

>>
Actually, just because you know the history is worth to own it. Even if it wasn't 100% correctly maintained, it's still better than buying literally any other car in like a year.
>>
>>15439231
I daily drive a thrashed and abused 21 year old base model 3 series. It's never broken down once, and apart from everything in the door breaking, a dodgy starter motor needing replacement, and alternator and general maintenance and premium fuel (that's 95 unleaded in australia), it's had no problems. Keep in mind that what I just mentioned is EVERYTHING that's ever needed replacing on the car.

Also, I'm a casual next to minimum wage worker who works 4 hrs a week 80% of the time, I also don't spend all my money on my car, because all I need to buy is fuel, oil, and oil filters. OP will be fine.
>>
>>15439365
>specifically an E46
that's the fucking point you imbecile
E46s are probably the best daily drivers you can get, there is literally nothing expensive that can break on the car unless it's got an automatic tranny

OP here. Seems like the general consensus is I should sell it. My grandpa took good care of it because that's the way he was but I know he wouldn't mind me selling it. I will try to make sure it goes to a good home and not some vaping stancefag.

That being said. Any anons looking to buy a clean 330

If it's mechanically well-maintained, go for it. Would make an extremely satisfying daily driver. Don't listen to the idiots here going on about how maintenance will kill you etc...

My daily 911 hasn't needed anything other than oil changes, wiper blades, and tires (tires being by far the highest cost) over 3.5 years and 37k miles. As long as you take care of it, it will take care of you.

>subframe rips out - $1500

>auto climate control unit goes bad, LCDs go missing - $200
>whole interior rattles & outside trim falls off because shitty clips
>central locking unit locking you out of your car - priceless

These are all extremely well documented problems, and simple google searching bimmerfest, e46fanatics, and bimmerforums brings up hundreds of hits and threads on each and every one of those. Bonus argument: you're going to call the E46 a "sporty ride" and high class, therefore it requires more maintenance than your typical car. pro-tip: no one will be impressed by your 13 year old shitbox that is literally rattling and falling apart at speed. Enjoy that crushing debt and remorse when your doors get blown off by a corolla.

I'd love to have one you lucky fucks. I used to work in a small machine shop with about a dozen employees and two of the other guys drove corrados. One of them actually has two of them. He bought them both brand new and one has over 300k miles on it without being significantly rebuilt or anything.

I don't hate mazda's, they just like to be faggots when the honda's do it to look cool and fit in. Miatas are underpowered but I've got no problem with them, they are gay though.

Honda drivers are actual children that scream and stamp their feet when somebody who likes other cars is enjoying them self or saying something positive about a non-honda. The worst offenders are usually all civic drivers, and people who bought a black accord and think it's the equivalent of a c-class but without 'muh shitty german build quality'.

calm the fuck down mate. there's a bit of lotion over there for your clenched arsehole and nipples if you want.

Now, you're not saving anyone or giving legitimate advice. You are a neet on 4chan trying to feel like he knows about cars by telling someone who's probably already made their mind up what to do. That's his grandfathers car, and whether or not you think it's a fiat tier unreliable piece of shit (protip: it's not), it has value and meaning to someone who is given it. yes, it might not be the best dd, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't have it and enjoy it, he'll wish he kept it if he sells it this early.

There's obviously something wrong with America, they're shithouse excuse for mechanics who can't work on anything but cheap jap cars and american shitboxes that don't know the meaning of sophistication and not making a car that is literal pigfat.

your still a hondacuck though. whether or not you like it, you take nippon dick hard and lap u the shit that spews out of the mouth of other subhumans on the internet. Of course you've never owned a bmw, don't even try to lie. A E46 is nowhere nearly as bad as a older E36 or newer E90 to maintain, and being a 330ci it's at least worth maintaining for the driving experience you get. Not to mention it was owned by your grandfather so at least you know the history behind the car and what was done to it, as opposed to buying some pos owned by a normie who just did oil changes. I'd take a look at the rubber parts including/especially tires to get a idea for its condition.

Those are CSL fronts. You can tell by the concave they aren't ZCP. Who does this on a 330 btw?

Keep it until you can't afford to anymore, you might actually enjoy it. Selling it preemptively is selling your grandpa short, you don't stand to lose that much more driving it until it breaks.

I don't know what parts are like in the US, but in Europe they are no more expensive than any other car and servicing is easy.

I have had a 2001 325i saloon for 4 years, bought on 110k and now on 160k (miles). Here is a list of everything I have had to do and how much it cost:

>crankcase breather valve, done at a garage, cost £220
>2x rear wheel bearings, done at a garage, £200 each
>Front suspension arms, DIY, £30 each
>front wishbone bushes, DIY, £20 each
>oil and filter every year, DIY, £60 a go
>spark plugs, DIY, £50
>4x Michelin Primacy tyres, £250
>4x Michelin Cross Climate tyres, £220
>a few bulbs here and there, sub £5 each and very easy
>front discs and pads, garage, £150
>rear discs and pads, DIY, £80

Fuel economy is good, I average around 35 mpg. Bear in mind that is UK gallons, not US. Still pretty good for what it is I think.

Most of that is consumable stuff that you have to do on any car. The rear wheel bearings were a bastard as the driveshafts have to come out to get to them hence why it went to a garage, but it is pretty easy to work on. I am by no means a mechanic, just got a few cheep tools and learned from youtube videos.

It has never broken down, never failed to start, and I would happily have another. Keep it if you like it, maintenance doesn't have to be expensive. Just don't take it anywhere near a dealer.

I paid 150euros for two bulbs on my 5series beemer, and those were from the cheaper range.
>>
>>15444116

I used the normal ones from halfords, does yours have fancy halogens / LED bulbs? Mine doesn't, although I think they might have been an option on later cars.

These are fancy ones, which are £7 each:

I'm confused how you got this number, are you giving dealer prices or something?
Loss of variable valve timing isn't even a big deal, none of the shitboxes you fags are suggesting as an alternative even have it and it doesn't make the car run any worse.

BMW uses a separator valve. It's known as a OCV/CCV, it's half a cyclonic oil separator and half catch can. It's about $100 in genuine OEM BMW parts and 2 hours at most on your first time to do. Usually cures oil consumption on older BMWs 90% of the time if it's not leaking badly from a original valve cover gasket. Oil consumption dropped from 1qt/6-800 miles to almost zero after doing the OCV and hoses + valve cover gasket, and switching to Rotella T6 on my E36 M3

Had everything you'd expect in a combo plus 4 nuggets which was kinda impressive. The burger was really dry but the price was on point.
