hoping to get it to 400whp by late next year.

Here's my week-old (to me) pigfat 4g. I am still in love with it. Thinking about lowering it an inch and a half just to kill the wheel gap. Other than that i plan on leaving it completely stock until something needs replaced. First thing to go will probably be replacing the rotors and calipers once it comes time to do the brakes on it. If i come across a deal on some more attractive wheels I might do that as well.

I have to agree.
Its nice to have a mitsu thread from time to time but not a freaking general. It attracts the worst people and turns into a shitty circlejerk eventually.

As long as it's not getting much in the way of blowby, and the timing chain isn't sounding like a sewing machine, it's got a lob of miles left in it yet. Just fit a catch can and delete the EGR if it hasn't already.

What should I do to my 4D56 to prevent failure?
>>15444673
You don't want it to overheat so that you don't crack the head. Keep the cooling system in good condition and you won't have a problem unless you're racing it in the Sahara.

>>15437747
Oh great another fucking circlejerk, just what this board needed
>>15443935
How are those things on fuel and reliability?
>>15445149
They're extremely reliable, but not the most economical. I think 23mpg US is all you'd get out of it.
>>15445149
It's considered one of the most reliable SUVs here because it's really oldschool, no fancy 9 speed gearboxes and fiddly canbus blocks everywhere. It's got a few issues I know of:
- the 178hp engine is turbo-ed somewhat beyond what the ancient block is capable of (but if you service it in time and don't go all Takumi on it, it's no worse than any other, and if you're feeling particularly paranoid, you can reportedly reprogram the ECU with 136hp firmware from L200)
- coil springs start to sag after several years (but are easy to replace with a better kit from OME or w/e)
- paint quality is meh (in a shitty climate the rear hatch can start to rust after just a couple years)
- the serial number on the underframe is easily damaged by gravel and corroded.
But since everything is oldschool, fuel economy is kinda meh, 19-20 mpg city, 23-25 mpg highway even with very calm driving. There's also a V6 petrol version that's a complete pig at like 12 mpg - I have no idea who buys that (especially since you get slightly more hp but noticeably less torque).
Also, the clocks on the dash and in the entertainment system are separate and diverge by about a minute per month. What the flying fuck, Mitsubishi?
>>15446484
They are separate modules. Clock on the mainboard of the infotainment system while the dash clock is self contained. It's a holdover from before the infotainment system existed.
>>15446595
I figured that, but I don't get why they put a separate clock in the infotainment system. It doesn't need time for any of its functions, and even if it did, it should've been able to get system time over canbus.
(The "infotainment" system is a fucking embarrassment in general. It can't do anything but play FM radio and MP3. In top level trim, there's another model with Windows 3.1 tier """"navigation"""", but it removes the center dash display with mpg counter, thermometer and compass - what the flying fuck, Mitsubishi?)
>>15446698
>I don't get why they put a separate clock in the infotainment system.
I'm going to guess that it's a fully off the shelf system. They probably didn't want to do any development for such an old model. From what I hear the newer systems are a vast improvement.
There's an offer in my neighborhood for a 2008 Eclipse.
Non-smoker, 1 owner car, leather, Rockford Fosgate stereo, sunroof, and spoiler. New brakes and starter, frequent oil changes. Only catch is it has 244,000 miles on it, but most of that is claimed to be highway cruising.
I did a basic walk-around and there were no dents, dings or scuffs and no rust that I could see without putting the thing on a lift. The interior also looks very clean.
Asking price is $2300. Should I?
Plastidip'd the front of my Eclipse today. There's some edges that could be cleaner but it's the first time I did anything other than wheels.
>>15447563
Yes.
>>15444709
Mitsu isn't continuing with developing the Lancer, right? So we'll probably see the Pulsar rebadged in the future. At best it'll live on as some sort of tuned up Pulsar, possibly sold as the Evo and with a "new" GTi-R trim to accompany it.
Are they not making a new Eclipse for 2017?
Is it not coming to American markets?

It is literally a race car for the street, at least the older ones. People who don't keep up with the servicing on Evos are retarded

>>15449139
Came with the 4G63T. Wouldn't this thing basically be a FR Evo?
>>15449223
There have been so many different versions of the 4g63, I can't even begin to describe why that's not really how it works.
It doesn't handle great, just an 80s FR car handling, so understeer everywhere and oversteer only when you really try to.
>>15449223
Yea the 2.0 was in the Evo, but I thought in the US they were only offered with the 2.6. Could be wrong though.
>>15443734
I actually took the whole interior out, put a shit ton of insulation and got a new carpet to put back. Its not that bad actually.

I did four-ish coats on each wheel with some touch up sprays to get trouble spots. Four 17" wheels took two cans of spray.
got my echeck fail, now im going to have a high flow cat installed
>>15451593
really hope you're not plastidipping center cap shut to the rim.
>>15451611
>Finished project.
Turned out nice. Was hella easy to do. Didn't even have to take the wheels off. And it cost me like $10 in material.
I really gotta lower this car though. The Eibach ProKit lowers it like 1.6“ and 1.5“ in the back and the front respectively. I think that should kill the wheel gap enough for me to be happy with it as well as keep the daily driveability ground clearance.

>They probably didn't want to do any development for such an old model
It's a 2015 car, for fuck's sake. And judging by the pictures, they kept the exact same bullshit in the redesigned 2016 model too unless you buy the highest level trim.
>>15451733
I don't think you understood what he said by "such an old model".
>>15451612
What's it like living somewhere where they do emissions testing? I'm in downstate Illinois so I don't have to worry about it, but I know Crook County does it and it seems dubious af. I couldn't imagine being told what I can and cannot do to my car. Given, my last car was a civic with a test pipe/cat delete so I would have failed any and every emissions test possible.
>>15452147
>I couldn't imagine being told what I can and cannot do to my car.
You can, since emissions laws are federal.
>>15452774
But they're not enforced. Like I said I had no catalytic converter on my car.
>>15452969
Doesn't matter, you're still legally required to keep emissions equipment in working order. There's no reason not to.
>>15453006
I know that, but what I'm saying is that emissions, while being regulated, it's not enforced in areas where there isn't testing.
Also, not having a cat converter has a very measurable difference. So there is a reason to not keep emissions equipment in order.
>>15453031
>Also, not having a cat converter has a very measurable difference.
Is your car from 1982?
