I'm trying to make my Prelude mid engine, can anyone help?

I can put it in the space of the back seats + trunk right?

Stripped out the majority of my maverick's interior. Planned on getting a car rotisserie for it until I saw the price of the one I wanted.
I'm thinking of just building a basic frame out of 4x4s to elevate it 3 or 4 feet off the ground instead.

This is the donor car for the maverick. It has a 460 and a heavy duty 9" rear end which are going into it.

Thinking about cleaning up the lincoln, throwing a 305 and 700r4 into it(for dat MPG) along with some rear end, give it a quick paint job and give it to my parents. They've been eyeing it since they first seen it.

Also bought a welder today. It MUST be a step up from the harbor freight shit I've been using. I had two $20 off coupons at summit, so fuck it.

What does /o/ think? Figure I'll practice my welding on the lincoln.

You'll need to figure out cooling, drivetrain(figuring out how to get power to the wheels), exhaust(keeping the fumes out of the cab), mounting the engine, mounting the transmission, suspension work, etc.

You'll have alot of custom fab work ahead of you, which will involve cutting, grinding, welding and shaping metal.

You're basically asking how to build an entire car. It'll either be alot of work and a considerable amount of money, or you can hire out and it'll cost a boatload of money.

Does this satisfy you?

I want to dd a decent sized classic.. but I want mpgs... (15+). So what would be the best rear end for a 350/th350 combo that can achieve mpgs, but still be able to city and Highway drive? (Doesn't have to be fast by any means on acceleration, I just want to be able to cruise at 70mph)

All the parts I needed to get the new 670 holley on my lincoln came in last friday and I finally got her running on monday. Since then I fixed a high idle problem and pretty much have her dialed in. Oh, and I made some new battery cables because the old ones were shitty and corroded and made with those temporary terminals.

However, the manual says to hook the choke up to a 12v source and it turns out the wire I have it hooked up to is actually closer to 13 volts while the car's running. Is this going to burn it out or is it okay for my uses?
>>
>>15436395
1 volt isn't going to make much difference. Electrical systems in cars vary (normally) from 11(running on a weak battery) all the way to 14(strong charging).

Ideally 12.7v is da best. So i've heard.

>>
>>15437413
Rust like that isn't hard to fix really, just cut out the rot, make a template out of cardboard, and weld in some new metal. It sounds easier than it is of course, but I fixed rust similar to that on my New Yorker last summer and never did it before.

The problem though is the rust you can't see, if the quarters are that bad, then it's likely the floors, trunk, trunk extensions and frame rails likely have rot too, but not always.

Can anyone tell me what I need to know about replacing an old engine with a crate engine? Is it just a matter of uprooting the old one and connecting everything to the new, or will I need to replace a lot of connecting stuff to fit one?

If it's too involved, I'll probably just take it somewhere if I can find someone who can do the work, but I'd rather try and do it myself.

>unbolt transmission bellhousing bolts
>unbolt torque converter bolts(either by tapping the starter to rotate the engine, with a screwdriver on either the flywheel / flexplate, or via breaker bar from front pulley
>unbolt exhaust(this is going to be the hardest part, probably. usually seized on there). You can also just cut the exhaust pipes right at the manifold and weld a new flange on there or have a shop do it for you
>unbolt motor mounts
>disconnect everything else
>hook up a chain to the intake bolts
>cherry pick it out.

Sometimes you'll have to wiggle the motor loose, but you can get an entire engine out of a car in about an hour with a socket set and ratchet as long as you don't encounter any stuck bolts.

as long as you're swapping in the same family engine you'll have no problems with fitting it in there.

If you're swapping in a different engine, you'll have to research which motor mounts would fit.

With my 400m(replacing a 390) I was told 351m/400 motor mounts from a pick up will allow the 400 to bolt into my galaxie with no mods.

Shit. I forgot to add something.

All you really need to do to achieve decent power from that size engine is to either find a decent pair of heads or port your current ones, then bump up the compression a bit(9.5:1 with smog era heads is as far as you want to go, no quench) with some new pistons. Also always be a bit conservative with cam choices. Also a performer intake and around 600CFM max for those engine sizes.

You could do alot worse for $2,000 less.

I'm debating if I can afford a blower for the 460 on this thing to throw into my maverick. If I go blower I'd need to build the motor completely different. or I could go NA power with higher compression. My shoestring budget means if I go blower this car won't be on the road for like 3-4 years.

This information is sort of incorrect.

68-69 "strong blocks" refer to the early 351W blocks. They're still not good for over 500-600 crank hp reliably and will be prone to having cracks.

87-92 HO 5.0s ONLY had the forged pistons and only forged pistons.

Rods and crankshaft were cast and 93-95 and all other non-ho blocks will have hyperutectic or however you spell that shit pistons. Those blocks will also crack at 500 crank and the stock internals forged or not will only last up to around 350-400 crank. Unless you were never going to do anything else to it I would never recommend a stock ford block considering the cost to have it rebuilt/decked/etc. is only 500-800 dollars less than a brand new dart shp.

Ported stock heads, 9.5:1, a small cam, performer intake, and 600 cfm would probably net you 300 crank and 240-250 to the wheels. You would be hard pressed to go much over the 300 whp mark without at least gt40 heads and a bigger cam/intake.

If you have the clearance for the added deck height on the 351W there is no reason to go with a 302. Absolutely no benefit besides maybe weight and being able to rev higher (not in stock form). 351W will have more hp, more torque, and make the power you want without losing the street manners. 300 whp from a 351W is a sneeze.

Ever seen I first saw this I've always wanted it. Something about it appeals to me. I'm not even sure if I would paint it. It looks pretty fucking good right now.
