Been lurking for a while somebody please tell this idiot everything he needs to know about the 1980-91 quattros, there is one parked outside my school and im thinking of trying to buy it
>>
>outside my school
Unlikely it's a good quattro. There was an everyman quattro.
If it's a good quattro, you won't be able to afford it.

THEN there's the thing of "parked outside my school, I'm trying to buy". Don't be the obnoxious fuck, who has no idea about shit, trying to approach someone to buy their car.

tl;dr: go to sleep, forget about the car.
>>
Well, let me ask. If it were semi decent condition would it just be a massive money pit?
>>
>>15428580
Yes.
>>
Well I guess i expected that, fuck
>>
>>15428556
If you don't buy it I will. Where
>>
>>15428566
if he's in the us we only got the ur quattro and the fwd coupe. if he can afford it, its probably a coupe gt.
>>
>>15429045
Is the Coupe Gt not good?
>>
>>15429680
no, it is extremely nose heavy even for a fwd and slower than a minivan requires some specialty tools and parts can be expensive (audi). I used to have a mouton edition. wish I would've kept it but not great cars. decent tourer, quite comfy and good in bad weather though.
>>
>>15429726
Even with the 2.3 20v? There's one for sale by me and it's mint. I love the boxy 80s Kraut style
>>
>>15429919
The drivetrain is near indestructible, everything around it WILL break.
>>
>>15429936
Thanks for the first hand knowledge, but I was asking if it was any faster with a 2.3? There's one with 100k that's mint, full set of ronal r8's without so much as a scratch. 5 speed. He wants 5600. Would that be a dumb buy?

Don't expect a scorcher stock, but that engine has rallying roots. Sounds absolutely awesome and has stupid tuning potential.

Honestly, if I were you I'd read up on common problems and fixes, shit to look out for, the usual, and take it for a test drive if you can to see if you like it.
>>
>>15430064
sure ~40hp will make it faster but not a rocket.
>>15430085
this guy knows whats up.

>>15430064
sounds to be on the high end of coupe prices, but if it's a quality 20v swap with a tight engine sounds reasonable. are you sure it's not an 87 with the 2.3 10v?
>>
>>15430228
No its an 83. >>15430085
Thanks for the info you guys. I love vw Audi stuff I just have no clue about these

It does look nice and clean, I'd say it's at least worth a look.

Doesn't the 200 Turbo Quattro have that engine too?
>>
>>15430602
Yeah, the 200 Turbo Quattro's engine is related. Very, very related, to the point that (I think) it shares the same block.

Because of shit like this, you can take any old 80, 100 or Coupe with the 2.3 10V, slap on new heads and manifolds, add a turbo and make 300hp without a problem.
Upgrade the internals and you're looking at an absolute monster.
>>
>>15430621
Damn, I've seen a few nice 200 TQs for sale around me (while urqs and S2s are basically nonexistent), I'll have to seriously consider picking one up.
>>
>>15430687
I think there are some differences between "generations" if you will, like the engines used in the older 100s/200s/80s/90s and their newer counterparts, but I know the 2.3 10V in the B4 80/90 and C4 100/A6 shares its block with the S2/S4 and possibly even RS2.
>>
>>15430705
To add to this, the 20V NA from that generation also shares the same block, and a 20V NA head will bolt right on to a 10V. The combustion chamber of the 20V head is bigger than the 10V though, resulting in lower compression (~8.7:1 instead of 10:1, perfect for a turbo setup).
A 20V NA head can be modified into a 20V Turno head as well, it just needs the water manifold for the turbo machined into it.
