At stock height? Sometimes but usually no.

Lower than stock height? Yeah you'll scrape fairly often if you aren't careful, depends on how flat your area is though.

Timing belt on a miata takes only a few hours.

Miatas are non interference so if the belt snaps it's not a big deal, just line everything up and throw the belt on. No valves will be bent. If you can go without a car for a few days you could always just wait until it snaps lol.

That's my car, so I can tell you how it was with that front lip at that height. It would rub lightly over speed bumps, and would scrape pretty bad leaving steep driveways or anything like that. Never did any sort of damage to the bumper or lip itself besides scuffing up the underside of the lip.

These fucking tail lights are going to be the death of me. The car goes for paint work on the 26th, so I have to try and get them fitting properly before then.

I have the same year with less mileage. It's a solid car, you'll love it. The price could be better but I basically stole mine so I'm biased.

I deliver in mine and I'm pretty comfy during my shifts. Highway noise is pretty loud when you get going to like 65 or 70 but it's fine to commute in, just pump up your music.

I've only had it for 3 months now and I live in Florida so I can't help you there anon. A hardtop would help seal the environment inside the car better so I can imagine it'd help
>>

Even if it is having the convertible top would be worth it.

Hopefully I'll get to go see it in person later this week. The ad said it's an automatic but in the pictures it looks like a stick, hoping its a stick and they messed up the ad.
>>
>>15431246
The driver's side fits really well, but the lower left corner on the passenger side starts to lift away when I tighten the screws that hold the panel in place. I'm trying to find out what exactly is causing it to do that, but it's hard because I can't see inside the panel while I'm tightening it.

That, and I broke the ground tab off the reverse light, so I'm trying to come up with some way to reattach it. I might try soldering it tomorrow. If that doesn't work, I'm just going to use epoxy.

People shit on NCs because most people here drive shitty 1.6 liter miatas and they're bitter so they say NCs are too pigfat and not real miatas for some reason.

Personally if I had the money I'd daily an NC over my 1.8 NA. NC just needs a set of coilovers to really wake the car up (as do all miatas)

Also, 2.5 liter swaps are super cool.

The NC is a great car
>>
>>15432601

I hate that term. The NB has radio/CD, heat and A/C, and power windows and locks. What else do you need? All that other bullshit just adds weight. The Miata isn't supposed to be a loaded Camry.

>S2K is more expensive isn't it?
In my area NC and S2K rang from 10k to 20k depending on year.

If an NC and an S2K cost the same price, the S2K is going to have more miles, be in worse shape, and be older. Depends on what you're looking for I guess.

Yeah goy its only a few pounds. I mean the NC is only 400 to 500 lbs heavier than the NA. And its only 100 to 200 lbs heavier than the NB.
>>
>>15432852
It's heavier, yes, but not because of the aux jack and a couple heated seats lol. It's based on the RX8 chassis so it's physically larger than all other gens. Plus it's stiffer, and safer in accidents than the first two gens.

Like I said, if I were to buy an NC it'd be a daily driver anyway. Weight isnt really that big of a concern to me when it comes to a daily driver. It makes more power to make up for the weight anyway. Still rather have an ND though
>>

Also, 0-60 doesn't mean shit irl.

>>
>>15433852
The 6 speed is literally worthless, my friend had one swapped into his miata and it was a waste of money, the top end is still lacking and you just have to shift more for no gains.

>why not buy the NB
Because it doesn't have the aesthetic of the NA, literally the only reason.
The way I see it, why buy a compromise when you can build the perfect car, and it doesn't even cost much.
>>
>>15433865
more subjectivity, huh.
>>
>>15433844
Bought them mostly for the super low weight and the street cred. But with tiers mounted, it wouldn't have mattered if the wheels weighted 1-2kg more. And nobody recognizes the wheels either.. But they like the bronze
>>
Am I the only one that genuinely likes every gen of miata? all these faggots trying to justify their 3k purchase is just pathetic. It's a fucking miata.
>>
>>15433861
>>15433861
The 6 speed is pointless though. The ratio is exactly the same as the 5th gear in the five speeds. The only thing that changes is the 2nd and 3rd gear ratios I think

The point of the 6 speed isn't for top speed. It's purpose is to let you have closer gear ratios so you're always in the power band at any speed. If you want a higher top speed just change the rear end ratio.

I want a shorter final in my Miata, I feel that a shorter 2nd&3rd gear would make it much more fun

fwiw my 6-speed NC is at 3300 rpm at 80 mph in 6th
my 5-speed NB was at 4000 rpm at 80 mph in 5th
>>
>>15433941
oh my god dude you have no clue what you're talking about

I'm not talking about drag racing. If I were, I'd be talking about 2 speed powerglides. For 0-60 or quarter mile, a high stall torque converter and 2 or 3 speed transmissions work better than any manual 5 speed or 6 speed. Miatas aren't drag cars.

On a circuit or hill climb or whatever, you launch exactly one time. You do a single pull when the lights go out, and sometimes less if the race has a rolling start.

Having more gears gives you the ability to always be in the power band when coming out of corners at speed. With a 5 speed you might end up wanting more rpms coming out of a certain corner and end up accelerating slower because you're making less power at that lower rpm
>>
>>15433921
Glad at least one person agrees
>>
>>15433985
No I just don't give a fuck what you say, the powerband of that engine isn't so peaky that you need a 6 speed, the difference would be negligible.
This isn't a fucking 2 stroke with a powerband that's as wide as a cunt hair, having an extra gear aint gonna make a motherfucking difference.

I've owned 2 NC's. Very good car. You can buy them for $9k these days on craigslist.

The MZR engine is really good. Tons of aftermarket. Best part is that you can buy a 2.5l version for cheap as hell from a mazda3, Ford focus, etc. and swap the bottom end for cheap and gain 25% displacement. Really easy to hit 200hp+ naturally aspirated at that point with lots of mid-range torque (strong point of a stock 2.0 miata to begin with).

Grab a Grand Touring model and you get leather seats, clothe top (instead of vinyl), bone audio, and possibly an LSD if you find one with the right package.

Oh, and lots of stuff from the RX-8 are direct bolt ons (brakes, sway bars, etc).
>>
>>15434361

>>15434361
200hp naturally aspirated can be done with the 2.0
>>
>>15434361
>bone audio
who would want that? i can always remove radio stuff if i want but then who the hell is driving with no radio
>>
>>15434413
Yes but the 2.0 will only make that 200 up top. The power band is skinnier and there's less area under the curve. And it would cost more than just putting the 2.5 in

The 2.5 yields a healthy curve with lots of midrange torque.
>>
>>15434445
i can't find any dyno charts of the 2.5 making 200hp
>>
>>15434423
Boss audio*

I'm not really into upgrading audio, so I'm usually pretty happy with stock stuff. It's just nice to have a nicer system to begin with.

>>15434445
True, but the 2.5 does it easier, and you get the extra torque. Intake/header/exhaust/tune should get both engines around/over 200hp.
>>
>>15434445
Dyno will show whp, not crank hp. Youd probably have to figure in around 10-15% drivetrain loss.

Guys if I do a light weight flywheel, new valves, forged internals, and new valve springs, I should be able to rev up to 9000rpm easily and reliably. Will this allow my NA6 to produce more power/give me any performance increase?
>>
>>15441005
No, with those mods alone you'll blow your motor up. The stock oil pump can't take it. Also, miatas are terrible at making power naturally aspirated. Even the most well built 1.8 liter NBs only make around 185 whp. Boost is the way to go, either super or turbocharged. Supercharger if you still want the powerband of a naturally aspirated car
>>
>>15441050
So why don't I upgrade the oil pump? I'm not chasing a ton of power, but having a miata that revs to 9 like bam bam bam would be skevvy I tell ya. If it makes more power I mean that'd be cool too.
>>
>>15441155

>>
>>15441187
I mean yeah I could but I'd prefer to have a high revving na i4. Thanks though.
>>
>>15441416
I get it, there's nothing like a high reving engine. The stock engine probably isn't the best bet for that though, you'd have to put too much money into it for it to rev high and you wouldn't make much power. My suggestion is looking for a F20C, since you can make 9k and good power easily.
>>
>>15441452
Is the f20c the honda s2k engine?
>>
>>15441680
Yup, no kits for the swap as far as I can see, but some guys on miataturbo did it and documented it.
>>
>>15441688
Well as I see it, the list to get the 1.6L revving would be as follows.

New valves
New valve springs
Forged pistons, rods, and crankshaft
Forged camshafts(is that a thing?)
Upgraded oil pump to keep up with lubrication
Upgraded radiator and piping
Upgraded water pump?

Is there anything else you'd think? I'm just getting an idea for what kind of future I ant this car to have, and exploring options right now.
>>
>>15441738
The plus side of me doing all these internal upgrades is that it'd allow for FI modifications in the future very comfortably. So I'd have a really fun revved engine with maybe a tad more power, and a great potential for more power when I eventually do those mods down the road
>>
>>15428073
Info on that?! That's beautiful!
>>
>>15441738
That's a pretty complete list desu, you can forego the forged crank since the engine comes with it stock. No idea about forged cams, but honestly I've never heard of it, so I'd think no. Take into account if you plan to rev high that you'll need all rotating masses to be professionally balanced. Also, in general you should try to lower the weight of the moving parts in order for it to rev more freely, so consider using lighter rods, and definitely lighter valves. Add in a free flowing exhaust system and good intake and you'd have yourself a pretty capable engine.

All of the stuff I've mentioned though is mostly suited to a full on custom job like you might run with a racing engine. The additional weight of parts like valves make a big difference in reliability, so keep that in mind. It's perfectly possible to have an 1.6 i4 rev up to 12k rpm, just don't expect it to do that and be reliable.

From what I understand you will also want to replace the harmonic damper.

What a fag
You should have bought some sleeves and some linear Hyperco springs.

What's wrong with progressive springs?

They are for normies that just want to lower the car. You should buy linear spring in the correct rate if you want good performance out of those new konis. I read a FAQ from either Flying Miata, Goodwin Racing, or 949 Racing about what spring rates they recommend for front and rear, but I cant seem to find it.

???
normies that want a low car just buy prepackaged coilovers like racelands, those are not progressive.

What oil is best for NA6?

I'm way overdue for a change.

I always use Mobil1 full synthetic. It doesn't matter that much, just find a quality full synthetic. A lot of people use Rotella too

Anyone who runs without the rear swaybar?
Anyone who runs with competition/ilmotorsport engine&differential bushings?
>>
>>15446297
>without the rear swaybar
Its like you want your car to be an understeering pig
>>
>>15446297
I run poly diff bushings but stock motor mounts

Also dude the only reason you should run no rear sway is if you only do autocross and nothing else. And even then, the stock rear sway bar is pretty thin anyway.
>>
>>15446312
Nah, just a little
>>15446328
Did you notice any difference with the poly bushings? I have the ilmotorsport differential bushing and motormounts laying around at home, but I'm considering getting the AWR poly enginemount and a 95duro differential bushing, but it's like $400 incl shipping and fees and I'm worried that they might be a little overkill.

Help! I changed the oil in my miata and it stopped ticking!

I think I broke something!
>>
>>15446788
That's normal
>engine starts ticking
>change oil
>it goes away
>comes back within 1000 miles

Get this bad bitch right here, and a K&N oil filter. Its more expensive but for that extra $20 you can waggle your dick at all the other miata guys about how you have Red Line oil.

I notice some increase vibration and gear noise but nothing crazy. It sometimes resonates in the cabin and makes a bass noise.
