I have to confess to you, /o: I don't consider any vehicle not made by Toyota to be a serious car/truck/whatever. Like the rest of the manufacturers seem to be producing some sort of meme cars that constantly break down, can't start in adverse conditions, leak their fluids everywhere, their electrics melt with time, everything about them is shit. Ford, BMW, Fiat, GMC, VW, etc... they all make cars for people who don't take life seriously: ie they don't care if their turd of a car breaks down on their way to work and they miss an important meeting. I mean it's a subjective opinion of course, but perhaps there's a reason why Toyota is the #1 automotive manufacturer.

Toyota's cars can no longer compete. Their best sellers especially-Corolla, Camry, and Rav4-are near the worst in their class. Have you ever compared them back to back? Driving a 2012 Corolla after owning a 2012 Focus was eye opening. It's almost unbelievable how terrible the Corolla is.

This is the only engine I've done myself. A few years ago I helped my dad rebuild a Chevy Smallblock 350, but all I really did was torque shit down while he did the real work

Either way it wasn't too bad. Just gotta keep everything organized and clean. Also I was so anal that I took a picture of almost every part before I took it off, which helped a bit, too

I also think I found torque specs for everything online but I'm not sure on what site or whatever

The cars you mentioned are for people who care about cars, Toyotas are for people who don't give a shit and neglect it until it burns out and then they just buy another one. I've known people with Toyota's that are so ignorant about cars that they put dish washing liquid in their windscreen washer tank and have NEVER done an oil service.

Honestly when I see Toyota's, I just think the person doesn't care about cars at all.

Toyota is number one manufacturer for the same reason that /k/ loves the Mosin nagant.

They make cheap shit.
that works.

For a toyota anything, there is a better alternative. But that alternative costs more, and needs maintenance.

Toyota is the company for people who don't really like cars and just want to go places.
>>
>>15420688
>better alternative
>needs more maintenance
>costs more

Just wow, now I remember why I stopped coming to /o/
>>
>>15420769
>I have autism
Yes a car can be better vehicle but require more maintenance and cost more, McNamara.

A tundra towing tops at around 10,000lb, while a ram can top around 10,650, ford 12,200 and sierra similarly 12,000.

They are better towing vehicles, but cost more, and more maintenance intensive.

They also have pluses like incar wifi for gmc, adjustable suspension for dodge and Aluminum construction for ford. The only thing toyota likes to boast about is it's electronic LSD, which most american trucks have had alternatives for that work exactly the same.

Point is, these trucks are BETTER, but more expensive.

You can do the same for any toyota. Fiesta is a nicer ride than yaris, etc.

It's really not that complex.
>>
>>15420769
>costs more

Half your argument was that Toyotas held their value better and would therefore cost more, SeƱor Dingleberry.
>>
Toyotas are shit.

Shit interior.

Shit power.

Noisy as shit.

No proper automatics.

Make no power.

But at least its reliable... right? What point is there owning a car that is shit in every other way? There are numerous makes that are as reliable as Toyota but actually feel like they were made for people who actually like cars.

Hey, ever heard of the word "Contradictory"?
Fuckin' retard. ALL cars require maintenance. And with a Toyota vehicle, if you do the exact same maintenance to a Tundra, a F150, Dodge 1500, and a Sierra 1500, at the same mileage intervals, the Toyota is gonna outlive them.

I have seen 4Runners that have been beat to shit and abused with terrible maintenance history make it to 300K miles with no major repairs.

I have seen multiple Tacomas with just regular oil changes and normal maintenance make it past 500K. The last time I saw a chevvy make it that far, it had THOUSANDS of dollars in repairs done to it.

>>15420793
As for you, here's my fatass 07' 4Runner, with full time 4wd, tipping the scales at 4,800 pounds with me in it, doing 0-60 in about 6 seconds.

>>
>>15420801
>the Toyota is gonna outlive them

not when it rusts in half
>>
>>15420793

Oh yeah I forget rust. All even slightly older Toyotas seem rusty as fuck whereas BMWs, Volvos etc seem just fine.
>>
Toyota prices are astronomical, at least where I live.

You're not getting an extra 30% of value out of a Toyota over the equivalent Honda, Ford, etc. Econobox is an econobox. The reputation is driving the market nuts.

Yes, we all have stories of the 500k Camry on oil changes. Plenty of well made cars.
>>
>>15420809
>>15420818
Y'know, I don't think I have ever once encountered a rusted frame on a vehicle...
Probably has to do with living in North Texas, now that I'm actually thinking about it. No salt here...
But it's pretty crazy what the Texas sun will do to em' if you leave em out there long enough. I've seen old mazda's straight up go from blue to bleached white.
>>
>>15420832
Lol what? Toyota's are the cheapest cars around, they're literally dirt cheap. The only slightly expensive ones are brand new ones or meme cars like MR2s or AE86s.
>>
>>15420838

>live in a place where there is no winter, salt
>wonders why the cars don't rust

Texans confirmed for idiots.
>>
>>15420801
>Do the exact same maintenance on two completely different vehicles
Are you retarded?

And the American trucks are still BETTER than the tundra. They tow better, they offer better, they're better trucks.

And no, your anecdotal evidence means jack shit, when plenty of million mile diesel trucks are rolling around.

I got rid of my focus at over 600,000 kilometers on it. Most expensive thing i ever did to it was get the tranny flushed once. Now i'm working with a CRV at over 300,000. Only regular maintenance as well.

Funny enough, the car that has given my family the most trouble was a corolla, when it's transmission would jerk in first gear. The bands wore out probably. That was 1300 to repair.

But i don't blame the car, because i'm not a retarded fanboy.

Visited the Toyota plant in Nagoya two weeks ago. You can sense the vim and vigor and passion among all who work there. It's sad that the higher-ups are content with making boring cars, but I can assure you that no other company cares more about their product than Toyota, save maybe Ferrari or Koenigsegg.

All of their cars are just-in-time, meaning that they are only produced when ordered by dealers, unlike other manufacturers who crank out cars to meet quotas and zoom them off to dealers to either 1) sell or 2) rust.

Their manufacturing facilities are humane, clean and the epitome of high-technology. You absolutely CANNOT get a better car for the money.
