Objectively speaking, what is, in your opinion the greatest car manufacturer(s) of all time?
If you have more than one, list them in ranking.
Why are they at that position of your list?
What do you like/dislike about them?
My list:
1. Nissan
I like Nissan as a company, even though they make fairly boring cars now, in the 90's I think they were king. Partnership with Renault has allowed them to expand financially as well, they also making a lot of headway in new technologies and engineering in general (Autonomous cars, still making a *Flagship* car, etc.)
2. BMW
Not really much to say here, I think they make good, solid cars that fit all purposes, fairly refined, nice build quality, not the most interesting cars to drive, but not everyone cars about "Muh driving feels" so whatever.
3.Ford/GM
Old company with grassroots. Great selection of different cars. Great sounding V8's. Not too keen on the reliability aspect, but recently they've been making some cool cars that are just really fun to drive; Fiesta ST, Focus RS, etc...

1. Mitsubishi
It's not really rooted in logic, it's just the car company i have the most love for. If you were to find one great thing about mitsu is that it has the best history of any company. Instead of building a car industry like for did, mitsubishi built THE IDEA of industry in Japan. It's the reason for Japan being a 1st world country today.
2. Ford.
Badassery, v8, loud noises, Detroit
3. Alfa Romeo
I'm just a sap for cars with soul. Arguably the most beautiful cars of all time, followed up by lancia.
4. Ferrari

The only correct answer is Toyota. Absolutely legendary off-road and street vehicles on its resumè. It's an automotive juggernaut, and has managed to offer very well built and reliable everyday cars as well as purpose built vehicles that have had a huge influence on automotive culture.
Toyota has always been on the cutting edge in terms of innovation, and continues to uphold this trend even today.

No. This was done by Porsche first way before any of us were even born. Then brought to the common people by Honda almost 100 years later. Toyota just know how to copy things the right way.

Which is why you didn't list them because you couldn't think of any. This statement means nothing.
Now, things they DID pioneer was a very efficient production system, while Ford made what most would call the "modern" production line, Toyota was able to refine it and make it more efficient.
For my GOAT car manufacturers I'd have to say these, in no particular order:
Ford: Modern production lines, truly a world-class company.
Mercedes-Benz - While not in their current form they essentially pioneered the first true car. Sure Cugnot's steam tractor could technically be called a car but they don't exist today and it was highly impractical. Other than that they have a long history and have been deeply ingrained in culture for decades.
Other than that, I really can't think of any that deserve to be called the greatest of all time. While there are many that have offered small innovations or brought something new to the car scene, they're all just different takes on the same two things listed above: 1: Create a car, 2: Mass produce it.
Again not knocking any other company, they have all done some amazing things but just not as huge of milestones.

Primarily makes proper, affordable, reasonably styled driver's cars with great interiors. Also have the only [also reasonably priced] super car that can be DD'd. Not really much to say, they've done everything right except for not boosting the Cayman to its supercar flagship (2 seat MR > 4 seat RR)

Luxury done properly; no badgewhoring nonsense, no OMG SHINY CHROME BLUE LEDS SUCH TECHNOLOGY WOW nonsense shitting up the interiors, doesn't cost a fortune to buy or run and at this point has easily surpassed its German competitors. Also really good leather seats.
>Mazda
Basically the only Japanese make left still producing quality ecnoboxes given Honda, Toyota [despite my accolades for Lexus] and Nissan have gone down the shitter in the last 10-15 years. The econoboxes themselves look decent, still have windows, are relatively engaging to drive and still have good interiors (ESPECIALLY opposing modern Honda). Also of course despite 17 year old contrarian dickwads yelling HURR GAY at everything, the Miata is still a legendary car that's amazing to drive, especially for its price.

Not much to say, they've really gotten it together over the last four years and produce decent econoboxes in a time where Japanese econoboxes are declining sharpy in quality and then of course we have another legendary car, the Mustang GT.
