Everyone forgets the Cavalier's Pontiac twin, the Sunbird.
The Sunbird was available with the same V6 as the Cavalier, but unlike the 2nd gen Cavalier, even the I4 versions of the Sunbird are worth modifying. The Sunbird 4 bangers use a SOHC 8 valve I4 from Opel in 1.8L and 2.0L guises, either N/A or turbocharged. Want DOHC and 16 valves? grab the head off a 2.0L Daewoo product like the Nubira or a Suzuki Forenza/Reno. Bolts right on and the turbo manifold works with it too. Pic related, a Sunbird Turbo undergoing a Daewoo cylinder head conversion. It's basically a US market version of Opel's famed C20 2.0L engine.
