Hey dbt. Been riding for about a year and a half, mostly on my ninja 300 but i recently did a couple of hundred miles on an r6 and got spoiled. I want more powah now. Will be keeping the 300 cuz its an awesome little commuter, always gets me 60 mpg, but if you were to go out and buy a new bike (mainly for weekend riding in the mountains, some long distance but not much, might do a track day or 2) what would you get? Dont want to get anything used, personal preference. Mainly looking for something

Ive looked at all the japanese 600s, and i kinda like the kawk 636. My 300 has been extremely reliable, no trouble in 13k miles, so hopefully that extends to other bikes in their lineup. Idk if id get a ninja 650 or sv650, would be comfier but i want something faster.
I also really like the daytona 675/675r, dat 3 cylinder is burry nice and it looks amazing imo. Reviews say it isnt comfy in the slightest tho, and nobody ever says much for european reliability.
Should i go full liter? s1000r/rr have a lot of cool shit that comes with them stock. The new R1 is pretty damn good too, and the panigales are drop dead gorgeous.

636 is most comfortable 600 in my experience, especially if you're tall like me, I believe it's more expensive than a 750 and approaching 1000s in price though.
GSX-R750 amazing powerband, especially if you're worried about a literbike but want more mambo under 9,000 RPM than a 600. Supreme value for money and suzuki often do 0% financing.
All 1000s are more comfortable than any 600 IMO, particularly the honda and the suzuki but they're also the most outdated, S1000RR is pretty good too but I've only sat on an S1000RR, I've never taken it for a spin. Bikes are being throttled by euro 4 now (ZX-10R) so get going and buy soon if you don't want to factor an ECU remap or fuel controller into the buying price now.
If It was me buying a new 1000 out of the current breed it'd have to be the S1000RR (for a road bike), the 2nd generation has had almost all of the reliability problems of the 1st gen (cam chain tensioners etc.) completely eliminated.

Track days?
Gixxer 600/CBR600 would be your comfiest options there. You'd probably do better with a 636 as it's a pretty good middle ground between compromising comfort for sportiness and compromising sportiness for comfort.
If you're not hitting a track and just looking to have fun and putt around town, your best bet would probably be an S1kRR or a GSXR, but if you're going for the GSXR I'd wait until the new one.
Panigales are not comfortable. R1s are pretty much the best literpeter you can get for track days, but you'll still have a much easier time (and probably more fun) on a 600.

It's a very expensive bike but it's the most comfortable liter peter you can buy. I was honestly debating a used one until I found out insurance on it would've been upwards of $700/mo for me. Between a 600 and a liter you lose a metric fuckton of low end torque, but on a track you'll probably run within a half a second between the two displacements in lap times since 600s are easier to handle and being in the high end means the torque difference isn't as noticeable, and the lighter everything comes into play.
Personally, if I were in your situation and could afford one, I'd look into a Buell 1190RX or something. Brand new they go for $13k, and it'll put up with any literbike you can get nowadays. The only time they ever really struggle is on track, as they're much more work on direction changes and shit than the lighter 600s.

It looks like it works as in "makes a sound" but it looks so floppy. I'm guessing the truss rod is completely backed off and intonation above the 10th or so fret is questionable. Pickups might have been lowered as well because all that string movement probably caused them to strike the pole pieces at first. It's a cool experiment but nothing I would want to try to live with.
