http://news.nationalpost.com/news/canada/a-canadian-man-invented-a-wheel-that-can-make-cars-move-sideways

>The age of parallel parking may soon be over thanks to a literal reinvention of the wheel by Canadian man William Liddiard.

>“True all-way drive for anything with wheels,” Liddiard says in an online writeup for his successful prototype of “omni-directional” wheels, a specialized rim and tire that can allow any car the ability to move sideways.

>The tire is rounded like a donut and sits within a specialized roller-equipped rim that can move the tire horizontally. The result is a wheel that can allow any car to “crab” side to side.

Echo vs tercel vs corolla

What's the gosh darn difference?

The sideways movement in the video is cgi, so he doesn't have a working prototype.

Also, yay for jelly-like road grip and 300 lbs of extra unsprung mass.

and neither of these designs require a special wheel.

Thats all well and good for parallel parking but what happens when you go around a corner and the wheels start spinning sideways in the rim?
i assime the car handles like a shopping trolley.

This goy invented something that has existed for a long ass time already in industrial applications.

only if you have time to wait 5 minutes to move left to finish your parallel parking.

Already exists in industrial trolleys.the rubber is so soft on a road car it would wear out stupidly quick.

No it's not

Wow this has been done many times before and isn't anything new.
There's a reason cars don't have frivolous gadgets and gizmos (to an extent) and it's simply because of cost. Who the fuck is going to drop 5-10k extra on wheels to park for them when most high end cars can already park themselves? Not to mention the other downsides to this pointless design.
This dude must be some sand nigger or some stupid fuck, did he really think he was going to out do years of engineering and millions of dollars spent by the industry?
>>
>it starts sprinkling

why don't people just learn how to parallel park ?

Think the age of catering to inept cunts needs to be over, if you can't park your shit, give an honest reason why you should have a fucking licence

If anything, such skinny contact patches would perform better in rain.
Like a bicycle tire.
