Hey /o/, just picked up someone's drift car RX7 for cheap. It's a '91 and I fixed its idle issues and got her running damn smoothly. One of the previous owners installed a short shift kit and did a pretty hilarious job of it, so I want to celebrate with one of these threads.

What's your shift pattern look like, /o/?

I disagree, OP here. I can't go back to automatic. In fact I sold my nice ass Jag for that very reason, after driving standard for a month. Even in traffic, it's so much more engaging. If I was driving a minivan or something? Sure. But standard is so much nicer in every way. Tactile sensations are great.

Considering it at the moment, but I can't stop driving standard. Automatic feels so wrong.

How do you fuck up putting in a short shifter?
>>
>>15368744
Black: what it should be like
Red: what is actually like

I think I have a worn bushing or something loose in the shifter, it softly rattles sometimes as well and doesn't stop unless I hold the stick.

This causes me to stall occasionally, and any manual driver that drives my car for the first time always stalls.

>I either will try to take off in third
>Change from third to fourth when slowing down. (Doesn't stall obviously but is hella annoying.)
>or change from first to fourth

Anyone had this issue before?
>>
>>15368940
Also while you're in gear, you can move the stick side to side like two or three inches
>>
>>15368877
Don't fucking ask me. 1st and 2nd are literally a C motion apart from each other, and there's dead spots around 3rd that trick you when shifting. I personally like it after driving it for a few days.

For an Ultimate Driving Machine, the E36 has a really shit shifter. I mean it's placed nicely but the shifts aren't very satisfying, compared to for example an Audi A3 or 80. It really sucks that there's no 6th. I think even the 102hp that I have should be sufficient.
Also there are no safety features for putting it in reverse, just need to use a bit more force than first (compared to pushing the stick down like in Audis or pulling a little thingy up like in Renaults). I almost caused a crash when I wanted to start and I accidentaly used the strength of a thousand furious niggers to put it in first and almost hit a car behind me.

The longer I browse /o/, the more it seems like you guys WANT your cars to be shit, like you had a ton of parts sitting on your lawn ready to be swapped that you aren't going to get around to, you would say "I don't have the time" or "missing some obscure part that goes with it I can't find" but the real reason is you want it to be shit.

I watched a "true car enthusiast" video on youtube the other day and while it started off with how certain "smart" features are shit, it basically delved into saying he wanted his car to be fucked up and be a piece of shit, and WANTED it to be forever broken down and not working. This is white trash degenerate tier shit and basically /r9k/ of driving wherein you choose to be a piece of shit then secretly mutter how you're better than everyone.

I have an S2000 and it shifts exactly like this picture, I guess I'm not in the cool kids car club or something because it isn't all fucked up. Also driven a 20 year old miata from a friend and several old as shit beat down trucks and they all shift exactly like their gear shifter describes. I think /o/ can't be happy unless their car is shit like them.

an e30 with what i'd say is fucked shift bushing things, everything on the car is fucked. i regret buying it, but at the same time try to think maybe it was a tiny bit worth buying..
it makes clunking noise/feeling changing the gears too. but it still stays in gears fine and besides heaps of play and being hard to get it into them it shifts 'fine'.

reverse and 5th gear are bad, but i'd say reverse is the worst
