My sister owns one and I have driven the car a couple hundred miles. The civic feels very user friendly and incredibly easy to drive. It also has all the new gadgets that any new car has. Anywsys my dad has a 2013 Honda Civic, its not a bad car for commuting or A to B driving, its a decent car overall.
My dad is terrible with technology cause hes 61 but the touchscreen, bluetooth, and all that are pretty easy for him to use.
Road noise isnt bad either and it has decent acceleration for when you need it, remember its not a race car.
If i was in the market for a commuter car the Honda Civic would be my top choice.

/o/ has a reputation of having a reality distortion field of this type where decent cars are shitted on and are disregarded for less than credible reasons. Is this just a phenomenon of circular logic that /o/ can't fathom that a decent car (not awesome but not shitbox) exists?

That must be an earlier car than mine.
I had AM/FM/cassette and climate control. No gauges in the center, and the diff control was under the handbrake. The instrument clister was different and I had wood trim.

It's a shitbox, though. That's the reasoning behind it being called a shitbox. At the time it might have been okay, it was never good though and in retrospect must be considered a shitbox.
In 2001 I owned a Maxima that was pretty decent for the time. Full leather, Bose, sunroof, manual, etc. In retrospect it was actually a shitbox.

A civic is a solid choice if you don't care about cars. Basically that or a corolla. That car will probably last her 15~20 years if she takes care of it (which she won't) and doesn't crash it (which she will).
