'82 Civic owner here. Before I give my little econobox a fresh coat of paint, I was hoping /o/ could help me figure out how to give mine the wheel wells and different fender of something like pic related. Is it a body kit? A 100% custom job? I've never really had a car like this before, so this is new to me.

yes with small changes like making the stock flairs a different color from the body
plasti dip looks ok and does not ruin the paint underneath
and unless I'm wrong it comes with pretty large stock wheel sizes anyway
(just mind the effect offset has on scrub radius and bearing stress)
(also clearance with suspension components and steering arms)
145/85 R12 4.0jx12 ET??
165/70 R13 4.5Jx13 ET45
175/60 R14 5.0Jx14 ET45
5.5Jx13 mugen cf 48 might fit as they were and option on the 1984 model
they are also available in 6Jx14
both widths of wheel are fine for smaller tires
no need for big tires to get a handling or grip improvement lower profile and different compounds are enough
going under 60% profile will reduce comfort and may not work so well with the stock suspension
even at stock ride hight big improvements can be made to handling by using especially selected springs and dampers
then later the addition of a rear roll bar and what ever changes in suspension geometry work best with the other new parts
each new part or setting requires to be balanced by another so take your time and work from evidence
a clean car with good handling and nothing gimmicky will command respect from people who know
