>practicing handbrake turns in rain with friend
>neighbor comes out in pjs about 29yr old
>yells at us to leave cause we will kill ourselves and get out license taken away
>we are in us and in nj
How much trouble can I get in for doing this in an empty parking lot with nobody around, and I still got my probationary for another month?
>>
>>15346629
You could be trespassing
>>
>>15346634
would it make a difference if I know the pastor and go to the church?
>>
I don't think I've ever heard of anyone getting in trouble for practicing driving in a parking lot as long as you aren't being reckless or likely to cause damage.

Like >>15346634 points out though if the owner of the lot wants you to leave you gotta leave.

You neighbor is just being a crotchety old twat before his time.

Ok /o/, so I pulled an 8.8 rear diff from a Mazda B4000 to put on my B2300. Thing is, when I try to search the model number, which is 333, all I get is shit about Ford tractors. I just want to see some info about it, particularly the spline
count, but I can't find anything non-tractor related
>>
>>15346649
ford 8.8's should have info in the door tag, you can google it to find out what you got

for instance D4 is a common code in Explorers, for 3,73's with LSD
>>
>>15346629
>comes out in pjs

So you were making a bunch of noise either late at night or early in the morning while being in a residential area. Great job ricer.
>>
>>15346786
Is there any way to determine the specs of it without the door tag? I know from the diff tag that it's a 4.10 Lsd. If there isn't another way then I'll probably just take it apart and count the spline myself
>>
I found a Dodge 2500 I like, but aside from the Neon there are 0 Dodges in the sticky. Should I be concerned about this and is there a good reason I should avoid a dodge pickups?

Is it worth putting the car in 1st as well as applying the handbrake?

Also as an Ausfag manchild who got his license late... Does anyone else get drivers who deliberately go slow in front of you because they see you're still somewhat new behind the wheel?

Shit's been happening more recently as of late
>>
>>15347291
If you have a good hand brake, being neutral is fine. However, some cars have a "preferred parking gear". For example, the C6 Corvette needs to be in reverse or it will drain its battery.
>>
Looking to get a vehicle for under 20k been looking at the fiesta ST but im wary about the FF and how well the memes will handle in the snow(snows alot)... Any ideas?
>>
>>15347368
It's a small FF car. It will handle snow fine as long as it's not deep enough to get it stuck.
>>
>>15346873
From that year range...

31 spline.
>>
>>15346629
You'll be fine, I'm also an NJ fag and rip handbrake skids in public with no ill effects
>>
>>15347368
It will handle just like any fwd car but Fiesta ST's have shit tons of torque and if you tune it it has even more. The only problem you'll have in the snow is your ability to control the throttle and if you decide to hoon it up on ice you'll like just not go anywhere instead of going into a tree like a Subaru would, cuz they can actually get moving and totally forget that awd doesn't really translate into all wheel stop.
>>
miggt have something to do with the empty lot being a church parking lot huh friend? That and many churchs also have houses around them maybe whole neighborhoods centered around them (because murrica) they probably perceive it as disdain for the church when youre ripping on the parking lot and youre probably beingg seen as a satanist to those people

Start getting used to using your whole leg and not just resting your the heel of your clutch foot on the floor. It might be comfortable in your car, but impractical in others. Adopt a technique that can be used in any manual car.

Or just get rubber floor mats.

So I park at home on a moderate slope, probably no more than 15% downhill towards the front bumper. Which is more economical lowest possible RPM or peak torque RPM?
>>
>>15351687
The only evidence I have is anecdotal, but I'll toss it in. CVT transmissions used to run peak torque. Now they're mostly programmed to have "shift points" at the lowest possible rpm. Especially in fuel efficient cars. My guess would be that the change was made because it's more economical at low rpm.

Take that as you will.
>>
>>15351713
I've always been taught lowest possible RPM is best.
But my "new" car (made in 2008) has a real time fuel economy meter and it seems low RPM+higher gear isn't more efficient than higher RPM and one gear lower, especially if there's any gradient.
>>
>>15351550
Arizona isn't that bad. People become big pussies when it gets to be 110F out and sell

>>15351713
Cvt units where programmed with shift points recently so that the driver felt like it was a normal car. They got complaints for the feel of the car not shifting it felt wrong to most people.

I'm fully aware of that. But with fuel consumption regulations getting more strict every other day, they would let driving experience suffer in order to make ends meet. Because lets be honest, driving a normal CVT is absolute fucking ass. Not that the fake shift points are any better though.

Don't put a heavy clutch in your stock FWD 4banger, it isn't going to make any difference in performance, and will decrease driving comfort.

After acceleration when I press the clutch, I hear a single clunk from what sounds like the rear axle. Also when starting from stop before the car has warmed up.

>>

A clunk sound when going from acceleration to deceleration may be slip yoke problems. The splines may be worn.

A uni joint would make a grinding noise or squeaking noise.

A PING! Noise is usually too much movement around the output flange for the driveshaft. There are usually a few shims in there that fail with age.

Just take it to a reputable mechanic breh

I have a 2009 VW Passat with 16" wheels standard. I've put on 17s now.

Now when I drive the speedy reads 100kmh but GPS and Torque Pro read around 93kmh.

Now I'm thinking that the change is because of the increase wheel diameter.

But my question is, does the Passat still use the old gear and wire style speeds cable? I'd imagined it would be electric. But I find it odd that toque shows a lower speed. 186kmh when speeds says 200kmh.
>>
>>15356329
Without an intimate knowledge of how your propshaft is assembled, I could almost bet it's got a uni joint flex coupling, and as this anon >>15356387 mentioned, check your uni-joints.
>>
>>15356843
What was the speed difference before changing wheels?
Most cars (including yours) use the ABS sensors on each wheel to measure wheel speed and to calculate vehicle speed, but the calculation assumes the stock wheel diameter, if you increase the diameter of the wheel as a whole (not the rim only) you should be going faster than the indicated speed.

a bit of difference between actual speed and speed shown on the cluster is normal and even required in some euro countries IIRC, a sub-10% difference like yours seems normal unless you had perfect readings before changing wheels. The numbers don't match tho, your actual speed should be higher than the indicated speed if you have bigger wheels, so IMO this is just normal instrument behaviour and your wheels aren't that bigger than stock.
>>
>>15356881
From emory the stock were 215 16s and the new are 235 17s. I never checked the speed with torque before so I'm not sure.

And yes, am in Europoorland.

Yeah it's showing faster on the speedy than in Torque. I thought this would be read from the OBD/ECu and sent to an electric dash. So I thought it would be the same as the ECu readout.
>>
>>15356918
If I'm not mistaken Torque calculates speed in a different way, you should use GPS speed to be sure.

Anyway, what matters is the second number on the tire, with a bit of math you can calculate wheel circumference and see how different it is between the two.
If the new wheels are bigger, what should happen is that your speedy reads a number, but your car is actually going faster, which is not the case, so the two wheels are probably very similar and the difference you see is pretty normal because of the way instrument clusters are set up
