What do you mean by stupid? Engine braking can be "stupid effective" as in extremely severe depending on the bike.
For example my FZ-07 with the stock exhaust had tremendous engine braking in any gear, but after installing the aftermarket Yoshi exhaust without the baffle it engine brakes much more smoothly.
As far as functionality goes, engine braking is extremely useful on a motorcycle. I sometimes never even use wheel brakes when coming up to a stop sign on a small residential street or similar. Worth noting that my 1st gear is extremely low though, so you likely couldn't engine brake to a stop on a CBR or similar.

/dbt/ I've got a bit of a problem. It's currently almost 1 AM and I'm hyper with a thirst to ride. I finished working on my bike and it's all ready to be fueled up and ridden. Trouble is, it's almost 1 AM so my girlfriend who I live with doesn't want me to go riding. She doesn't want me riding in the middle of the night because I'm a fairly new rider and she wants me to be safe and also because my bike is honestly pretty fucking loud and would probably wake a few people up in our apartment complex if their windows are open (it's hot so it's likely).
