Anybody else here affected by Diesel gate?

>2015 Golf TDI
>Love the car
>supposed to be getting back between 5-10k in the lawsuit
>either a buyback at prediesel gate prices or a fix

The deal honestly doesnt seem to bad for me.
>>

Ive got a tsi, so I just get to sit back and watch the fun from my safety net
>>
>>15343583
Got a 2013 passat tdi. I'm probably going to get rekt with this buyback.
Fucking car has 80k miles on it already
>>
>>15343583
Just leave it alone. Don't get the fix and enjoy the car. It's never going to be unregisterable.

As do I and resell value has suffered badly....

>either a buyback at prediesel gate prices or a fix
No, your choices are:
a. sell car at predieselgate price (lose your depreciation value)
b. get the fix (drop in horsepower, mileage, and performance in return for greener emission)
c. don't get the fix (retain HP,MPG,response) in order to keep your Fahrvergnügen features.

Has the settlement been finalized?

Bought a 2010 CC with a TSI right after Dieselgate. Got it for a steal. People were being stupid and started trading them in super cheap. got a 50K Car for less than 15k. Im Happy

Closer to 1-7k maybe buy back.

See my above post. If you haven't changed to the updated timing chain tensioner, you are driving a literal ticking time bomb.
>>
>>15344875
That is the dumbest post I've ever read.
>>
>>15344910
How? I am a Volkswagen technician. Pre-2013 TSI engines have a oil-pressure driven chian tensioner that is known to fail, leading to the chain skipping time, and bending valves.

I've personally seen it in a 2009 Passat. 67,000 miles. 16 bent valves.

I don't see you offering any viable counter argument. If you're saying early TSI engines didn't have timing chain issues, even a cursory google search proves you wrong.

This is really terrible trolling.

Question for TDI guys: how enjoyable is it to drive a new VW diesel thing? Do you:
a) have to make it enjoyable (ex. some like loud farting diesels)
b) consider it fun as is (reason?)
c) only care about its MPG figures?
I have no experience with diesels nor newish cars. I like revving the shit out of my tiny econo gas engine.

Pic is peak torque range in current 150 hp Golf TDI. I think I would barely roll in first, shift into 2 and push up to 3000 rpm, shift into 4 for the same and then go for 5/6. Any opinions whether it's a bad idea or it could be any fun?

tl;dr how do I like the TDI?

Same thing happened on my friends Skoda Superb with TSI engine only couple of valves actually broke off, low mileage too.
>>
>>15347068

Nah, had company 1.9 TDI Skoda for few years, it's like driving very rough 3.0V6 with 3.5krpm rev limiter.
>>
I did all the calculations and I'll be paid $20867... I basically drove this car for free the last 4 years. With the loan pay off I'll walk away with 12k in my pocket, now the big question is will uncle same tax me the standard 40% they usually do for lump payments?

>>
>>15347466
I hope you realize no 5 year old car is getting 20K and they also take mileage into account.
>>
>>15344920
Does this happen on the 90 kW 1.4 liter variant? Pretty sure I got a belt, not the chain...
>>
>>15347466
>uncle same tax me the standard 40% they usually do for lump payments?
The federal income tax usually exempts a lot of court ordered compensation. But your state income tax might tax it. It's why I buy one of those tax programs each year. I don't do it for the convenience. I do it because I assume they incorporate all the latest tax code changes that I simply don't know about. And it's cheaper than paying the inflated $300 to a tax prep place like HR Block. They have that tiny fee for advertising purposes which just about no one qualifies for so it always ends up $300 or so if I were to use them.
>>
>>15347597
If you have a belt, you are fine. I haven't seen enough of the 1.4 TSI's to tell you yet.
>>
>>15347466
>>15347466
I have a 2015 golf, paid 23000 for it, buy back for 21000 or get 6000 in settlement. I really love the car BUT I am well aware of VW's long term reliability.

2012 Jetta TDI here. Looking at just over $19K for a buyback or around $5,500 for the cash only option. Leaning towards cash now as I have no interest in shopping for a replacement and possibly taking on another car payment. So close to having this thing paid off.

I don't understand what all the hate is for new Volkswagens is. Like whenever I look up reviews for them and stuff, they're all rated very highly, yet when I come here, everyone shits on them. Could someone hopefully unbiased help enlighten me?

/o/ members don't generally have enough disposable income to keep and maintain an automobile built in this century, let alone enough experience to judge a car for what it's really worth.

This. Mine has the Rawtek dpf delete and Malone tune. It's a blast to drive, but I may be returning it to stock and letting VW have the car back and buying a Chevy Volt.

That's true, but people I know have them and love the hell out of them, with very very little mechanical stuff going wrong.

The truth is that people with cum rag of cars don't ever get to enjoy the car for it's full potential.

Remember that used car fags, you are the betas of the car world.
>>
>>15350540
They are great cars irl. However, long-term reliability is definitely a well known issue with VW. But a lot of it is parroting and exaggeration. I have a 20 year old Audi, it's been super reliable besides normal wear items
