Looking for a hatchback that gets at least 30 mpg combined.

Spacious interior but not a huge car.
Motor doesn't have to be super fast but not a CVT/Slow as balls lawn mower motor.
2010 or newer
Not over 50k miles
Not gonna cost me over $8k
Decently reliable, not gonna crap out on me after 10k miles.

I can do most usual maintenance myself.

What can I get with this specs /o/?

Make it not cost more than 10k then and not over 80k miles.

Now craigslist what could I get?

Cut the year out entirely and we might have good suggestions.

The age of a car has way less baring on it's quality than most normies think.
>>
>>15329416
It has to be 2008 or newer for my job and I thought 2010 or newer would guarantee no issues if the city raised the age requirements of the vehicle.

Yes it does. The Chevy Sonic RS is only 1 or 2k less than a Fiesta ST.

>>15329460
Here are my suggestions:
Chevrolet Sonic LT or LTZ
Toyota Yaris (SE model is best)
Scion iA
Ford Fiesta
Fiat 500 (You would be shocked at how spacious it feels inside)

Everything else in the class has a CVT.
>>
>>15329567
As long as I can avoid the DCT because all I hear and read are dct = lemon.

Scion is a sedan isn't it?

I'll start looking at my local dealers on some of these.

OP Just get the Honda Fit, get the top of the line package for $19k EXL comes with all the fancy stuff and you'll drive it for as long as you want to.

It's $1400 more than the EX but you get the nav map + sirius + hand free phone stuff. Worth if if you're driving a lot.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIa7yPMr4zk

Long review video.

Your second best option is probably the 2016 Kia Rio SX package because why save $3.5k for something you plan on driving for 5-10 years and then suffer without all the amenities you'll want later on.

The mirage is another option but it's got 78 horsepower. You won't get anywhere quickly or with any real power and with the cheap interior even at the highest model GT you'll probably regret it pretty quickly. It IS cheap though so if you want to save that $5k and suffer for 5 years it's your choice.

My top pick for any hatchback that's cheap but great is the Fit.
>>
>>15329655
DCTs are fine. The Fiesta has one. It's CVTs you wanna avoid.

DCT's are usually just 2 3 or 4 speed manualt transmissions matched together and made to work in tandem with 2 clutches and everything automated. They're fairly reliable and offer similar benefits to a CVT but they cost more to make.
CVT's basically have 2 pulleys connected by a belt or chain. They change gear ratios by changing the sizes of both pulleys. This gives them a near infinite amount a gear ratios and gives CVTs the ability to hold the engine at a steady RPM (The best for HP, torque or fuel economy) while speed increases. On paper, CVTs are fantastic. But in practice, not so much They have a hard time dealing with anything over 100 HP so failure rates of CVT transmissions are sky-high.
>>
>>15329744

I do see allot of Honda jazz about
and the tuned versions of them have good potential

if one wants to be super cheep you find an old lady's run about
its a bit of a gamble between mint condition and riddled with bodged repairs
>>
>>15329759
You what?

Focus/Fiesta's #1 complains are Transmission problems.

Honda Fits are interior accessories

http://www.carcomplaints.com/Ford/Focus/2014/

http://www.carcomplaints.com/Ford/Fiesta/2013/

http://www.carcomplaints.com/Honda/Fit/2015/

CVTs are clearly superior to DCT. Fuck paddle shifting too.

If you want a non-honda shill then go Toyota Prius for $24k. That's way too overpriced in my opnion so just go get a used 2010 Prius for ~7k with like 120k and replace the battery cell.

what about snow mobiles ?

not something people get their head around
>>
>>15329806
>what about snow mobiles ?
Those don't make 100 HP. They're fairly reliable in CVT's and scooters

Then who makes hatchback's in the OP's price range and list that uses DCT that isn't ford?

There's a lot of competition in this bracket but all have trade offs.

Yaris
fit
fiesta
focus
accent
mirage
kia rio
versa
sonic

Now for OP to decide what's best would be to test drive some of them out and see what options you like best.

I'd vote to save your $$$ from the nav packages and buy a high quality GPS. It'll be way cheaper and much better looking with updated maps.

My top two votes still go for
Honda Fit
Kia Rio

Mirage is just too cheap inside even at the highest package offering.
>>
>>15329871
The Subaru CVTs may be equipped with powerful turbocharged engines, but the transmission still can't take it. Look at the failure rate of Subaru WRX CVT's vs Subaru WRX Manuals.
>>
>>15329877
The Mirage, Fit, and Versa all use CVT's so they're out.
>>
>>15327535
Suzuki Sv650al7
>>
I'm in the same position as OP. I'm stuck between getting a cheap but reliable shitbox, or a nice cheap truck with 100k+ miles. My price range tops out around 10k. Wat do?

I'm wanting to get rid of my 2015 subaru forester for something much cheaper. The CVT in that thing isn't bad by the way.
>>
>>15329880

Let's ignore OP's CVT thing since most DCT are shit and he probably didn't look into that.

Almost no non dct/cvt at this price point and power.

VW's DCTs are fine, and Ford's will be in a few years when they finally work out the kinks. The best DCT out there is made by Acura.

why don't city cars come with planetary gear sets ?
they give lots of torque and are easy to shift
a single set gives three speeds and reverse and two sets are possible in line if you want more speed

No. The new Sparks are 5 speed manual or CVT. And from what I can find, the CVT is sourced from Nissan.
