What's /o/s opinion on the Toyota Supra?

I personally use an MK3 for a weekend drive.
>>

how can Toyota even compete when they lost to a V6

the supra is a six cylinder.

and when was FF a reliable source on cars?

the manuals are really hard to find with the MK3s.
turns out, the transmissions couldn't pass SMOG tests for the longest time. by the time they passes SMOG, they were at the end of their model, and the MK4s successed them.

they realy aren't; they're actually really cheap to own.

in all my years of owning an MK3 i've changed exactly
1 batterey
two sets of head gaskets
alternator
rear shocks
set of tires

i've had it since 2010.

maybe i'm just lucky, but they're really well put together.

I can second this, I've dd-ed my non-turbo 5-spd mk3 for coming up to four years now in Canada. It's been pretty damn bulletproof, aside from regular maintenance things that come with age. I haven't even gone through a headgasket yet, but i'll be tackling a preventative changeover at 200,000km. I bought it at 135,000km.

/o/ really really loves hating on these cars, and no they're not fast, especially n/a's. Honda Fit Sports give them a run for their money. However, you will never find a more comfortable, sexy and reliable car that is more than 25 years old, PROVIDED previous owners have taken decent care of it and you have too.
Fun as fuck in the winter too.

TL/DR: If you find one that's been taken care of for a good price, you'll always remember it fondly.

pic related, mine when I bought it.

That's pretty much what I'm looking for: a $6k GT car. Was looking at the SC400, but it looks awful and is too reliable for me with that fancy 1UZ it's got.

I just wish you could get the digital dash in LHD.
>>
>>15326243
Haha, they're sexy but I hear they're also a bit finicky. Definitely look around! The hardest part is being patient. I waited a full year to buy my supra; the original price was $6500 Canadian. I sold my prelude I had before to some fuck-off kid and made money off of it, then went into the shop selling the supra and talked the owner (who I had been in constant contact with for a good month beforehand) down to $4250. Apparently it wasn't even his, it belonged to his good friend who bought himself a Maserati as his new summer car and couldn't be bothered to keep the Supra in storage any longer.
So yeah I definitely lucked out, but it just goes to show that its a gamble between patience and perfect timing. It'll kick you in the balls more than it'll work out for you. I lost out on a delicious ruby coloured MR2 turbo right before I bought my Supra. I think I would have still been happier with this choice though!

Not certain about /o/, but I like them.

Currently have a 2JZ swapped Mk. III that I'm selling, just purchased an RZ from japanland and is currently being imported. On top of the incoming RZ and current Mk. III I also have a parts 1JZ TT-R Mk. III (that really only needs a new bellhousing, flywheel, etc. that I stole for the swap to be back in perfect order). My old man is also obsessed with them, he has a parts '93 RZ and his ludicrously modified '94 RZ.

I have an unhealthy obsession with these cars.
>>
>>15327857

His getting a shitton of work done and mine mid-swap last Summer
>>
>>15327862

here's said parts '93. Had the F&F decals and everything on it when purchased.

Personally I find them pretty damn reliable with general know how of vehicles, the JZ series engines are fucking glorious and make power without much effort

If OP is considering one I'd recommend it

I drive an na mk3 with almost 168k miles, still feels great. My only complaint is that the gearbox is utter shit, will post pics later. Seriously, for under $4k you won't find a comfier car, i got mine for $3k and then replaced the water pump (it still had the original) and a coolant hose and its running great. It's not slow, either, it's just not necessarily fast. Overall, 9/10 would reccomend for a comfy car thats fun to toss around in the bends, especially with the lsd.

huh, should check the VIN on mine to see if it's originally an american import from the manufacturer of not.

Took this pic the day I bought it, for $1000 off craigslist.
>200k miles
>surprisingly clean interior
>N/A

Only reason I bought it was because I had a built 2jz sitting on an engine stand in my garage and needed a car for it. So the idea was to thrash the living fuck out of the tired old 7mge until she xploded, and the engine swap it.
Despite 10k miles of relentless daily hooning abuse, redline shifting, dirt-road rallying, rev limiter drifting, and general neglect, the fucking thing wouldn't die. It eventually started drinking its own coolant and blowing it out the exhaust due to a semi-blown head gasket, but I would just stick a hose in the radiator and fill her up every day. Whenever the temp gauge pegged into the red zone and steam started blowing out from under the hood I'd pull over and fill it back up with a jug that I carried around the backseat.

It never fucking died. When I pulled that 7m out it was still running like a champ

Okay it's >>15337037 and >>15329821 here, WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON WITH MY GEARBOX. This is when it's IN SECOND, it still operates just fine, but what the fuck is going on?
>>
>>15337049
>>15337160
>>
>>15337160
What the fuck lmao? I've never seen anything like this.
>>
>>15337212
yeah me neither, but it drives just fine which is even weirder

What are the chances of me finding a m2/mk3 Supra on Florida Craigslist for roughly $1500? I have a reliable DD so that's not a concern, and I'm willing to learn how to wrench on it myself but as of now have 0 knowledge. Is this just a pipe dream or could I feasibly own and maintain a project Supra?
>>
>>15338046
yeah, supras are very bulletproof, and as long as you keep a head gasket in the glove compartment, you'll never have an issue.

plus 1500 is seeable, but they're like any other car, you know, make sure the previous owner didn't rice the fuck out of it (sans putting in a better engine like a 2JZ or some shit) then you're good to go.
>>
>>15338201
Yeah I've heard about the infamous headgasket, seems like a fairly involved repair but I'm up for a new challenge. Currently looks like there's mainly autos on CL so I gotta be patient though.
>>
>>15338253
da' very difficult to find manuals in those models becuase >>15323640

personally i got my for free off of a dead friend whom gave it to me in his will, turns out i was the mose /o/ person he knew- shit i only switched his alternator for him. Point being i didn't have to unfuck the world to get my hands on one.
>>
>>15338386
Hmm that could be problematic. Wouldn't the engine be the same as an auto though? I'd probably have to take it to a shop for trans probs anyways
>>
>>15338386
>dead friend whom gave it to me in his will

;_;

I hate you guys.
I'm about to put my MK3 up for sale, manual, turbo, targa top, 33k in 1990 sticker price.

JUST COULDN"T LET ME WALK AWAY FROM IT COULD YA /o/.
>>
>>15338409
appreciate the damn vehicle.

besides, when you sell that, you lose something special, something rare. something supra.
>>
>>15338409
I can take it off your hands for about $3.50
>>

Everyone loves the MKIV. If you don't, you're an autist.

It's just the thread is primarily a MKIII thread because of OP's pic.
>>
>>15337160
Stretched or broken linkage?
Bent or broken fork?
>>
why doesn't toyota manufacture more MKIVs?
>>
>>15339002
Everyone love MKIVs. They're just too expensive for the average person on here.

>>15341226
They were far up market and didn't sell as much.
>>
>>15340985
yeah maybe, i guess, but it still works fine
>>
>>15341286
not worth fixing if its just asthetic.

plus you can freak people the fuck out by driving in what looks like neutral.
