You get 50K to build a driveline for a dragcar (solid rear end, automatic transmission).
You have to select an engine, transmission, and rear end. You must use one component from each of the US Big Three: GM, Ford, and Mopar.
For example, you select a GM engine (e.g. 454 BB), Ford transmission (e.g. AOD) and Mopar rear end(e.g. 8 3/4").

Which driveline components do you pick? Do those picks change if the budget goes up or down? Any changes if you could use a manual transmission, or an IRS?

This is retarded op

You can't have mismatched engine/trans combo shit just don't work that way kid

>You can't have mismatched engine/trans combo shit just don't work that way kid

people have been making adapters since the 40s and 50s kid

Srt-10 engine
Gearstar 4l80e
Ford Stirling

Easy.
>>
50 grand would get you all purpose built drag stuff.
no need for a ford 9" that would get you a forged unobtainium 12" gold plated
for trans i'd get a Lenco

Specifics?

OP here, my pics would boil down to:
>Any engine can be good, but Hemis can beat everything
>Most GM transmissions are good, 727's can be good too.
>As for modern transmissions, the 8spd Torqueflite (ZF 8HP) would be pretty good for a street/strip car. An 8L90 could potentially be great too
>Ford 9" is best rear end, although an 8 3/4" can be pretty sturdy too.

Let me rephrase that

No one is retarded enough to waste that much time and money on adapters when you can just use a matching trans
>>
>>15314890
OP here. Putting a transmission behind a different engine is simple: use an adapter plate like >>15314898 suggests. Some popular dragracing transmissions like the powerglide and turbo 400 even come with Mopar or Ford patterns from the aftermarketdespite being a GM unit originally. As for adapting a rear end, that's easy, since you usually need a custom propshaft for an engine swap/trans swap application anyways.

>Time
Very little.
>Money
Plates can be had for less than 1K. When you consider how much cheaper it is to build a 4L80 compared to an AOD (especially when it comes to actually holding big power), that 1K is easily recouped.

Realistically though most dedicated drag cars are going to run a non overdrive trans such as the power glide, th350, th400, c4, c6 or 727tf and they all measure up pretty even once they are built to race spec so why would you spend the extra money to put a 727 behind a 351 Windsor?
>>
>>15314988
You wouldn't semd money to put a 727 behind a Windsor, but this is just a 'what if' thread. However, you would put a 'glide behind that Windsor if you had a 427 stroker sitting in a 2000# chassis with plenty of tire, since there's no really viable 2 spd options from Mopar or Fomoco.

12a rotary engine, supercharged
AW55-50x awd tranny from a volvo with front driveshafts disconnected
and i'll use the IRS from a volvo v90, with the single fibreglass leaf spring holding the entire rear end together

I would take the 50k and build a Ti-VCT Ford 429 and remake the boss 429

It's called an adaptor bell housing, or sandwich plate, autismo
