I could see the next supra (if it ever gets made) being a direct competitor to the gtr, like it was originally. Unfortunately since the gtr is now a $100k+ halo car, so would the new supra be. Based on the gtr and nsx it would probably also be a tt v6 with awd. But my personal theory is that the lexus lc500 will be the spiritual successor to the supra with it also being around $100k
>>15296920
Nah, it's basically confirmed the Mk V will be RWD and I6 driven, thank god.
GT-R competitor? Who knows, but it'll definitely have some sort of hybrid system coupled with it.
And if we were to really be serious here, even the Mk IV was priced way too fucking high for it's time, thus why it failed.....until FNF as we all know.
Either way, I can't wait to see it. If you're right, man I'm going to be very disappointed. Yes, weight distribution sucks, etc. on an I6, but god dammit I want I6's back and NOT from BMW.

Honestly their backs are against the wall. BMW is the only manufacturer left that makes inline 6's. You can't seriously expect Toyota to try and update an engine last used in 2006. It's too old. They need a completely new platform or one that's already up to date, which BMW has.
>>15297252

GS400 has a better aftermarket and is better performance-wise, but the LS400 is the better all-around car and it's better made and more luxurious. When you drive an LS400, you bow before it as an engineering marvel. The GS400 is a just a sports sedan that doesn't even have a stick shift so you would prefer to buy an E39 540i if those qualities are most important.
>>15297710

>tfw she died on me
512,030 miles, died from engine knock.
My dad abused the shit out of her until 300k miles when I got her. By the time I got it, the damage was already done and it was a slow death for the car.
2 battery pack replacements, electric motor replacement, complete interior recall/replacement, transmission rebuild. Ended up dying due to engine knock the last time my dad took her out. I don't blame him though.
I'm probably going to get a Lexus next. Fuck hybrids though, all the money I saved on gas went towards the motor replacement and battery replacements.
>>15297864
Go find a 98-00 LS400 (it has the 5 speed transmission and VVT-i) and drive it. It's just unbelievable how combines all sorts of contradictions into a beautiful driving symphony. It's smooth and pillowy, but firm and sure-footed. It's super quiet and composed, but you can put in ECT power and take it to redline and hear that 1UZFE come to life. It goes 120mph the way most cars do 40mph. The interior is plain, but well made. The plastics are particularly amazing (very dense and secure) and nicer than what Lexus puts in brand new ones. Almost like pushing stone tablets.
On top of all this, it's a very reliable vehicle with a reputation for longevity. Just make sure it's up to date on its timing belt jobs or do it immediately when you buy it because it has a V8 interference engine with a timing belt (long story on how that happened). It gets very good highway MPG (25) and it's large and versatile enough to be a great daily driver. It even has a snow optimization mode if you live in that kind of climate.
>>15297961
Haha thanks anon of the descriptive detail on the LS! I live in California and traffic and driving conditions in downtown are a bitch! I was planning on the GS400 due to the fact of 300 HP but the way how the LS is engineered seems superior! Thanks anon but letting you know most LS in those years are rare as fuck and usually have 170k or higher miles :(
>>15297252
The Mk IV when it came out was around 60k CAD as I recall, which was a massive jump in price compared to the Mk III and it didn't have the legendary status it does now to warrant it.
It just seemed like a ridiculously overpriced Toyota at the time.

>everyone i know says they're too old
That's because the people you know are trying to give you the best advice. The older a car is, the worse the condition they'll be in, because of not only wear and tear, but also degradation from age. If you want to do sick drifts like Tagumi, here's what you need to know:
1984-1987 Corolla SR5 = RWD
1985-1987 Corolla GT-S = RWD
1988-1992 Corolla GT-S/SR5 = FWD
FX16 = FWD
Otherwise get a corolla from the 90's or 2000's if you want a reliable first car. Or fuck it, If I were you, I'd get a manual, awd, turbo, (if you can find one) 5th gen celica. Pic related

They are fast enough to start with but unless you have amazing fab skills or 8000 for a twin turbo or 10000 for a supercharger kit then look elsewhere . don't think because it a v8 you can throw a 1200 dollar set of cams and long tubes and run 11s all day. It's not a Camaro, plus 1uzfe vvtis crap the bed when you start asking for more than 500bhp

stay the fuck away from the early GS300, my girlfriend has a 1998 Toyota Aristo S300. right after buying it the thing did the throttle body error where it goes into limp mode, the apparent only fix is a brand new $1500 throttle body assembly. i pulled a GS300 junkyard throttle body and it did the same thing
its a very very common problem because of the 1st gen drive-by-wire throttle, i adjusted the TPS and it doesnt do limp mode as often but sometimes its every 5 fucking minutes. im close to trying to make a 1st gen Aristo manual throttle to fit the thing or getting a new TPS to see if that fixes it
1UZFE with a supercharger is better but more expensive

Thoughts on the new CH-R crossover?

'00 Toyota Celica GT-S 6spd/ '03 Lexus IS300 5spd.
Celica - 152k miles
IS300 - 222k miles
Seriously reliable cars, I have some big plans for both these cars. Putting the Celica for track use and the Lexus for a 2JZGTE engine swap for a comfy, fast daily.
>>15307874
When lift kicks in, it's a lot more reminiscent of early VTEC systems the way it's just a jump in power. The i-VTEC system when it kicks in is a lot smoother, but you don't get that "boost" of power feeling.

I'm kinda jelly, I've been looking for a 2000-2005 Celica, but the only one being sold around here is an automatic. There's a really nice looking one in the next state over, but it's got like 250k miles on it.

When will this meme stop?
Running an 06' xB here. Made it to 60,000 miles this year.
What do you think?
>Muh Hachiroku meme car.
Thinking about either getting an Aristo V300 or a Crown Athlete V.
I love the V's styling and headlights but the Aristo has the 2jzGTE.
I daily a 2015 Avalon. Pic is from the webz but looks exactly like mine. Same color, wheels, etc. Great car, really quiet and smooth. Drove it back to back against a 2014 GS350 and preferred the Avy over the Lexus.

buddy picked up one of these for $500 i helped him get it home, leaky power steering and it caught on fire 3 months in. checking the fuel lines help. would've bought it off of him but his parents drove it to the junk yard and took him to the dealership to get something else and saddle him with payment

Scion iA worth it? Trying to get a new car (currently driving an '04 Camry with 225k miles) whilst paying off some student loans, so I wanted something relatively manageable.
>>15314128
Are you buying or leasing? Leasing Corollas is stupid cheap right now with the incentives and student rebate. I got a dude done at $170/mo (36/12k) with absolutely zero out of pocket.

Buying. I was looking for something lively to drive. Havent looked up the Corolla much though.

V6 option on a Camry: Worth the extra money or not?
>>15320766
They are known to internally leak oil but it also depends what year you're talking about
>>15320810
I'm looking at a 2012 for sale with about 20,000 miles on it.
>>15320824
>a 2012 v6 Camry with low miles
I would
Is it too late to find a good first generationame IS300? I'm looking at ones for $5-8k with anywhere from 90k to 150k+ miles - obviously gonna take the one with the best maintenance history that I can afford.
>>15320887
I want to too. It's being listed for $17,000.
Some people are making me question myself by pointing out that a new 4-cyl is $20,000 and that I should get it for the warranty, but I can't justify giving up the V6 and spending an extra $3,000 for the opportunity to buy a warranty on a car that's known for not really needing repairs anyway..
>>15308439
Tell me about IS300. I need a daily that's fairly reliable and inexpensive to run for about 7k. I can't think of anything better for the money and my preferences.
>>15320917
If you want to slightly save money on gas go for the 4 cyl if you don't give a shit about mpg go for the v6
Should I buy an AW11 with 180k miles and stacks upon stacks of service history.

2JZ-GE
5-speed auto with button shifters or 5 speed manual

>>15320919
You really can't beat the IS300 for value. For some reason, they don't have any kind of Takumi, Drift,or JDM tax. So you can buy these easily less than 9k. Although, I doubt they'll be less than 100k miles. That' won't be a problem though.
So what do you get for the car?
>>15321287
>Double Wishbone Suspension F/R
>Torsen LSD
Also to add, it's surprisingly comfortable and quiet. I thought since it was based on the Altezza Platform, it would have stiff suspension and a lot of road noise, but the cabin was quiet, the ride was supple, and since it was a I6 2JZ-GE, very smooth and quiet. The Lexus part about the whole car (at least my car) was it was full leather, with heated and electric seats.
As for maintenance and parts, it really is as cheap and easy to find as you think. You can go to any Toyota dealership and if you know the part number, most likely, Toyota has it too, sometimes cheaper than a Lexus dealership. I've bought axle shaft bolts, supra engine seals, clips, etc. most of the time from Toyota because it was cheaper. They aren't even that expensive to begin with. Hell, I go to the junkyard sometimes, even pulled some Valve Shims from a '94 Camry to replace the ones in the IS300.
And of course, reliability. I've taken this Autocross about 3 times, and I haven't experienced any break downs. I was soo impressed, for an engine with over 200k miles, that it still runs very well.
If there are any problems, here's what they are so far...
>Melting Dashboard
>Rear Subframe differential bushings go bad (I've changed these myself with polyurethane)
Also, the car drinks fuel. I average 20MPG in mixed city/hwy. The highest mpg I've ever gotten was 24MPG on the highway. Range is about 320/360miles Also, Mid-Grade/Premium only. I like to think since my engine is way over 200k miles, it's not getting the MPG it used to get.
Overall, its a really good, comfortable daily. Parts and Maintenance is easy peasy. And really fun to drive on top of that.
>>15321695
I honestly forgot about the suspension.
LSD was only an option though.
