What's everyone's opinion on the mid-90's Toyota pickup?

I had a 1992. Always felt solid and durable. The lack of power got annoying quickly though. If there was a headwind i couldnt do 65mph
I switched to a mazda b2600i because it has more power. The mazda is much more quiet and comfy. Cruises on the freeway just fine through headwinds at 80mph.

4cyl or 6cyl?

4cyl 22RE 4x4
The V6 is no better though

Do you know if the v6 is as durable and reliable as the 4cyl?

I love mine. I have the 22re and it is a bit slow. I have been looking at aftermarket cams for it but I dunno.

It's not as slow as everyone makes it out to be though. My truck could maybe beat a Toyota Tercel in a drag race. haha For a reference though I'm cruising on the interstate at 80mph, turning over 3.2k on the tach. A bit high. Top speed is 90 flat. You aren't going any faster than that. I've tried. You need to really plan your passes. Actually, you don't really need to pass anyone. Just be happy you're cruising at 80.

I can't really speak for reliability I've only owned it for two months. Fuel economy is pretty meh. About 20mpg overall.

I laugh at craigslist ads that say these trucks get 40mpg therefore it's worth $6000 all day.

These trucks are a little overrated, and people price them too high. But I didn't pay much for mine and apparently the bumper on it is worth money as another anon pointed out. So in the end I paid nothing for mine. Overall I'm probably keeping mine until it dies. I like it a lot.

Nice truck! I'm thinking about getting a 94 v6.

The V6 is great *IF* you do reliability mods.
>>
>>15281508
Yeah I owned an old 4 banger stick Ranger and it generated 87 horses.

That fucking headwind yeah I'd top out at 45mph on I70 going uphill with a valley breeze and get passed by tractor trailers doing 52mph. Really dangerous and unpleasant.

What are the reliability mods?

Xtra cab is nice. Stay away from V6 with Automatics though. That particular transmission is known for very high failure rate past 150k miles. Which is pretty low for toyota standards.
>>
>>15281673
Yeah I'm only looking at manual transmissions with 4x4.

Headers. Lower temp thermostat. Remove emissions equipment.

The V6 is plenty reliable though. Ignore the head gasket meme. It was a recall when they were first produced because they were not torqued correctly from the factory. All it was.

Similar situation with the MKIII Supra Turbos. Not that it's relevant.
