So, i'm thinking of getting this 1992 chevy astro van. it's on cl for $5500, and has 36k miles. it's the v6 version. super clean interior, too. i wanted to know how reliable these are and how easy they are to work on. i'm considering this for my next vehicle

OP Ignore this retard. He thinks everyone should have sports cars.
The 4.3L V6 in those vans are fairly reliable since it's an old 350 V8 with 2 cylinders chopped off. There is a single problem with that engine, but there is a solution.
The problem is the CPI Fuel injection system. It uses a single huge fuel injection which spiders out to the poppet valves leading to the intake manifold. The 6 popper valves act like 6 fuel injectors... only less reliable. They switched the engine to a more conventional multi-port fuel injection system with 6 proper fuel injectors later on.

Why would you ever pay that much for a shitty old Astro.
If you insist on a minivan you could get a newer Honda Odyssey for even cheaper than that.

He asked about any reliability problems.
My uncle had that same van, and probably still does. Used it to haul around furniture for his business. Pushing 300k miles last time I asked, though I think his may have been a 95 or so.

CPI didn't come out until 1996. OP's potential van is a 1992. That'll just be a TBI engine, there are zero reliability problems there.
But seriously, OP, $5500 for an Astro? I don't care how clean it is, you can do better.

>In 1992, a new optional door form was introduced, colloquially known as Dutch doors. This form was two bi-parting doors with a flip-up window above. Previously, Astro and Safari vans were equipped only with bi-parting doors. An optional 4.3 L (RPO L35) engine with central port injection and a balance shaft was phased in.
