My internet is going at the speed of smell right now so I cant grab any sources, but basically the motors have a lot more to them then just being able to produce torque. If you somehow found a better one that still can fit in the tiny space where the old one was, Im willing to wager that the car wouldn't even start, because the computer would be seeing total failure from the diagnostic system, because there is none. So you'd need to find a motor that can convince the computer its a real Tesla one, and then somehow fit it in a space that can barely be modified, because the thing's been designed for one specific motor. Then you've got to worry about the batteries exploding, because your better motor is going to be drawing more amps then the last one. Assuming it CAN draw more power. Dunno how they've made the computer work. The whole system is very much like a game console or a phone in the sense that its strength comes from knowing exactly whats in it, which also means that whats in it has to stay in it.

Ill admit I know nothing about the Leaf. The Volt is a hybrid that gets most of its range from the little four banger, so that doesn't really count. The Focus costs quite a bit more then the base gas one, and has a pretty uninspiring range, performance and charge time.

If you can even mod them. The added complexity of the system wont stop us from trying to change stuff just because we can't understand it, but because if we change anything it will upset the carefully made balance that the engineers have spent thousands of hours designing and probably make something melt or fuse.

I'm aware of that. That's why you upgrade the battery, or wire it in parallel so each cell only pulls a certain amount of amps. Much like a gas engine swap, you still have problems that need to be taken care of: gas line, intake, exhaust, computer.
>The whole system is very much like a game console
I would assume the system being modded would also require a system upgrade. I'm thinking an open source raspberry pi computer. Or, if computer savvy, one could mod the existing computer's binary instructions.

These batteries are the whole reason electric cars are even able to compete today. Each one is a fucking marvel thats custom built for this application by professionals. Nobody at home is going to be able to do better. And its not like you can just buy a better one that fits the same form factor as the old one, because energy density is a bitch, and is why we're all not driving EV's right now. Plus even the smaller capacity ones cost more then most cars.
>I would assume the system being modded would also require a system upgrade. I'm thinking an open source raspberry pi computer. Or, if computer savvy, one could mod the existing computer's binary instructions.

The problem isn't so much range, it's infrastructure. There are batteries capable of 300+miles on a single charge. The afforementioned electric cars have a short range, but I think lack of demand prevents supply of cars with such batteries.

Man, you're missing just how much has gone into these. They are not the same batteries as in a laptop. The energy density is as high as they can get it while still considering weight, price, and the internal chemistry and how it reacts to heat, repeated charge cycles and output. Some of the smartest people on the planet worked for years on this shit.

And its not like you can just rewire it without any consequences, or thats what they would have done in the first place. The whole battery unit is a bunch of groups of individual batteries in parallel, which are then in series, because you need a fuckton of voltage for the motors. Wiring the blocks in parallel would give you a limp dick car that can drive for longer, completely negating the upgraded motor.

>>he's disregarding the entire first amendment for some fear mongering
First amendment doesn't apply to non-citizens noob. Immigrants don't have a first amendment right until they become citizens.

next your going to tell me that the white pride worldwide of the kkk isn't terrorism? that dylan roof wasn't terrorism? that the virginia tech shooter, or newtown shooter wasn't a form of terrorism?

How can they be terrorism when they're mass shootings :^)

>banning an entire class of people based on religion is unconstitutional as fuck
Those people don't have constitutional rights until they become citizens.
Learn the fucking rules.
Or you can be retarded and open the floodgates even as dozens of intelligence agencies across Europe found evidence that ISIS fighters were among the refugees.

And? You still can not make electric engine as interesting as fossile fuel engine.

Why?

Well electric engine is just a bunch of coils twisted around mount inside metal box.
Nothing to see, nothing to hear.
Also it is very difficult to tune or even fix electric vehicles.

Yes, a lot of engineering goes in to electric motor, but that's it. You wont ever see where that engineering went.

Oh and believe... Currently petrol motors go trough much higher level of engineering than electric motors.

Virginia Tech wasn't terrorism. They had no goal other then killing people. Might as well call my purse snatching spree terrorism because it scares people.

>>gas engine is very original
different engines are different because each one handles something differently. an electric motor is always the same. you put electricity in, it turns the wheels. thats it. There is no variation such as cylinder count, rpm, displacement, etc etc. There's just no way to make any kind of real significant difference like that. And the biggest one is just how long the battery lasts, which is, at least with tesla, LITERALLY DLC.

>Like powered windows, sound systems, trunk space, etc.?
tablet consoles are one I can think of. Honestly, normal cars are guilty of the same shit these days.

>Gasoline powered cars aren't made for convenience and commodity?
you can't tell me a muscle car or supercar are made for any kind of convenience or commodity. The fucking Lamborghini Diablo didnt have fucking AC. because it was all about reducing weight. it was barebones. most average plain jane cars, yes, but not all cars are for that. some are just for fun, or status symbols. usually indicated by something like a bigger engine or less seats, stuff like that. Hell, even some normal cars can be "fun". an SUV with 4x4 can be fun. But so far, electric cars ive seen have none of that kind of "fun" at all. they are iphones on wheels.

Im all for electric cars, but I just can't find them interesting. I dig tesla's designs, (at least, the Model S) but there's just no excitement to them. they are all just... sort of sterile and joyless. there's something primitive yet satisfying about a gas powered car, from the sound it makes to the little details of fixing it yourself, or smelling that gasoline smell, i dont know.

Stay mad electon boy, the only chicks you'll pick up in your Tesla are SFBay girls with hair pits. Call me when the graphene batteries come out and I'll consider giving a damn. Until then, electric cars are status symbols for people with more money than sense.
>>
>>15272988
hahah if only it were that simple in the age of the smart[insert device] even normal cars have computers in them, electric cars are outright computers on wheels, so theres also a software component to it, its not just motors hooked to a battery. Even gas powered cars have bullshit software nonsense in them that needs a computer to fix

Yeah i know it's fucking gay.
Leave my car without starting it for a week and it don't want to crank.

Leave my 61 for a week and it fires up before i can take the key off the starter.

not really. Terrorism is, specifically an act, usually a mass killing of some sort, meant to inspire fear.

9/11, was a terrorist attack. Al-Quaeda/Bush/Jews did it to specifically break the American spirit and sense of untouchability.

isis does shit in the name of islam, specifically to instill fear into those who they consider enemies.

the colombine shooters were just 2 sociopath social rejects who went on a killing spree to go out with a bang. No greater agenda to isnpire "terror" in a mass populace. just to fuck people's shit up

terrorism is fairly easy to define.

thats funny because you could make an argument about how 9/11 was not terrorism since one could arguee that not every american got his "american spirit", whatever that is and on the contrary, some people became really scared of going to school after colombine

>100 IQ

I really like car culture but that might be too generous. The avearge IQ in the US is only about 98 and car people here seem to be below average. A lot of people who claim to be into cars don't really seem to know anything about cars though. Whenever I've conversed with people who are actually involved in the industry they seem pretty intelligent.

Right m9 I rip DC motors apart all the time and their simple as fuck.
Teslas on the otherhand use three-phase ac motors and they are all brushless motors. Now granted the vvvf hardware on Teslas are quite literally from 1993 there isn't any excuse really.
