The only thing that still keeps them from taking completely over is the battery tech.

Electric cars could be technologically WAY simpler built like combustion engine cars. A lot less parts and if done right, should be even more durable but yeah, fucking batteries.

Combustion engines aren't going anywhere. We might see petroleum-based fuels kick the bucket in the next 100 years but there are a plethora of combustible fuels that we've already invented/discovered that can easily replace conventional gasoline.
