variable valve timing is not the same as VTEC. Unless it's variable valve timing with LIFT (VVTL-i for Toyota, MIVEC for Mitsubishi, VVL for Nissan in the SR16VE, super cool engine btw).
VTEC changes how wide the valves open as well as when they open. Normal VVT advances the valve timing only and does not change the camshaft profile or valve lift in any way.
Wikipedia says Fiat was the first company to design, patent, and implement a functioning variable lift system back in the 60s.

where did i say timing? i said Nissan used the same cam design, all Vtec does is switch cam lobes at a higher RPM. youre the summerfag. fact remains Honda glorified something Nissan did first, and while Nissan was busy making turbocharged sports cars Honda was busy milking a basic cam lobe design

Fiat created the initial design but Nissan used it large scale first in the early 80s, switching cam lobes is nothing special and Honda glorified it way too much.
