Well I do own a near pristine 6MT E46 M3 that I've completely overhauled for $6k. I'm talking diff and all.
New one's depreciate much more than $6k as soon as you drive it off the lot. And if it's not an M car you have less performance than my generation too.
Ive had mine for 5 years now and I don't get this "money pit" thing so many people speak of.
One of the most mechanically-sound cars I'll probably ever own.
At a time I was putting 800 miles a week on it for about 6 months straight and never had a hiccup.
