I want a truck that's American made, reliable and not to expensive. I just need some advice on what to get.
FORD
I personally prefer a Chevy or GMC over anything but Ford trucks do look nice and older Rams are nice. Look to Craig's List and see what catches your fancy.

First gen rams are fairly common and pretty cheap and with the exception of wiring they are pretty damn bulletproof

my 2000 2500 4x4 was a oilfield truck until my father died and he left it to me, 210,000km and its gotten me through -40c, 4ft of snow, and still carries my heavy ass camper. only thing that ive had to replace is the thermostat
ive worked on countless gen of these Sierra/Silverado at work and the only thing that goes on them are cooler lines and fuel pumps, dont run the gas tank below 1/3 and you shouldnt have issues with the fuel pump

I got a 2002 Suburban. My dad gave it to me when I got my license.
It had a few issues, but that's just because my dad didn't maintain it as much as I do now. Not to mention it wasn't his everyday car.

at work we work on a fleet companies vehicles, Tundra rust out horribly after only a few years. the roof and everything just like the newer GM pickups, theyre not too bad of trucks otherwise. fact they have a timing belt still sucks too but what can you do
Gonna get a truck aswell at the end of the summer aswell.
leaning 90% towards a ranger.
also considering older tacomas/hardbodies but they're not as nice as the ranger
I don't need a bigger truck as the biggest thing i've had to move in the past 5 years was mid sized furniture.

Hardbody are actually really nice, i was always partial to 1986-1989. i had a 1988 KingCab longbox 2WD 5spd, drove the fucker through -50c and bagged the piss out of it. frame broke in half and i still drove it home
Ranger are good too, Toyota pickup i would go for a 22RE over a 3VZE or whatever that shitty V6 was

Dat 4.3 Vortec, will walk anyone if you arent spinning
Other than that, F 150s are a plenty, and Old Dakotas would be my personal alternative to an S10.

some silverados and most rams are made in Mexico. Check to see if the VIN starts with a 1 (US) or a 3 (Mexico).
Fords are made in US but have high foreign (China/Mexico) parts content.
Toyotas and Nissans are typically less capable than the big 3's trucks in towing, etc, but have the highest US parts content since they're only sold here.
I personally like the F-150, dat 2.7 V6, dat aluminum body. Silverados are very nice too. Nicer interiors, and better base radio/displays.
Rams are old trash. Old parts, old engine, highest price for a proper comparison. They have cheaper base prices but unless you're buying a Work-Truck-tier trim you're going to pay more. The interior is shit compared with the Ferd and especially the Chevy. The 8-speed doesn't know what it's doing and the 5.7L V8 is a whole lot of "meh". Slow revving and terrible mileage.

>5.9 Cummins, very reliable, turbocharged, simple (89-93 models only)
Transmissions
>727 Auto, know for reliability
>NP 435, 4 speed, granny gear, non synchro
>NP 445, 4 speed, synchro, standard gear
Transfer Cases
>203, full time 4x4
>241, 208 or 205, part time 4x4
Really the only bad about these trucks other than the mentioned electrical (isn't super common in my exp. other than fusible links and ballast resistors) is the 1989 4x4 trucks with the Cummins have standard front hubs which wear really bad under the engines weight. This was fixed in 90-93.

if youre going with a diesel get the 7.3 or a 12v cummins
if you want a gas i would go with any gas chevy after 1999

The Tundra's 5.7L V8 has always had a chain since its inception in 2007 and same with the newer 4.6L V8 that replaced the older 4.7L V8. The Tacoma has also had a chain since 2005. Your information is so wrong that it makes your bullshit burger propaganda fall flat on its face.

Definitely a good first truck. Isn't a land whale like most newer trucks and usually haven't been run into the ground by previous owners.
