>Cordoba is best

A classic car is an older automobile. The common theme is of an older car with enough historical interest to be collectable and worth preserving or restoring rather than scrapping. No Civics allowed.

My reply:
I'm confident it'd make it to New Jersey; I'd advise some new tires, though, as they're getting a little worn. I've driven it clean across Texas with no problem.

As for registration, you could always mail me the plates back after you get home.

Feel free to text me as well; my phone number is in the ad; the email may have gotten caught in the spam filter.

So I bought this offenhauser tri-carb intake for my old chevy 235. I noticed when I bought it from the swap meet it's supposed to have two holes in the bottom for the optional water jacket in the intake to keep it from getting too cold and letting the gas condense inside it. Today I finally started cleaning off what I thought was epoxy covering the holes to find out that it has a minty smell and crumbled like old gum. Underneath the gum are two nickels plugging the holes. This is the craziest thing I've ever seen.

At least it wasn't some crappy stick weld or epoxy job, should be easy to clean up.

This mean as fuck '69 Toronado has been on CL in the Vancouver area for a while now, the guy needs it sold by the 15th and he has dropped the price to $1000. Allegedly only has a pooched starter, was his daily driver in 2015. I would be all over this if I wasn't saving up for an Apache.

so I've got a few hours and a garage full of tools with a 59 Edsel 4 door ranger. Hasn't ran in years. Only things I've done were pull valve covers off driver side along with spark plugs. plugs had a bit of oil on threads, and there was a small birt of sludge but mostly just dark old oil in there. Interior electronics and lights all work.

What else should I do ? thinking about pulling the carb and seeing if there's a rebuild kit.
>>
>>15234309
To be fair from his description it doesn't sound like an engine issue. Ideally whoever buys the beast will just slap a new starter on it and ride off into the sunset. Drums all around suck for sure but a buddy and I just did a disc brake conversion on his '72 Comet and it was extremely easy, so 4 way drums will never keep me from buying something I like. As for the puddles, yeah.... fuck.

At the end of the day there's no way in hell I'm buying it, even if I can afford it right now and I do think it's killer. I'm waiting for a decent Apache or El Camino to pop up, the longer I wait the more money I'll have saved when it pops up and the more prepared I'll be to daily drive something with worse fuel mileage than my '87 TBI Chevy truck.

Well boys it probably happening. I finally found something cool for sale that's actually near me. It's a 1957 Dodge Coronet in okay shape. It is owned by an older gentleman named Alan. Alan, unfortunately is getting too old to be able to take care of his multiple cars and is selling them off. He is slowly dying from emphysema, and is alone all time. I feel really bad for him and am gladly going to want to take this off his hands. His son was the one that actually told me about it and also told me that apparently he is asking $7,500. To me that's a little high for this, considering that just across the water in Connecticut there is an absolute mint condition '59 Savoy for 8k. Alan though, as old as he is does seem to be pretty negotiable. So I'm gonna see if I can talk him down somewhat.

My girlfriend was taking most of the pictures so she didn't get underneath or inside sadly. But the frame doesn't seem too bad, and all the rust is pretty minimal in my opinion. The fuel gauge is broken and the driver back door is a bit iffy. Other than that there was nothing I noticed with this other than the fact that it could use a tune up.

I got into it with a boomer at a car show awhile back; he said that my Excalibur was a piece of trash and didn't belong, yet he had a """""""1932 Ford"""""""" with a Chevy 350 and nothing original on it whatsoever. My spare tires are older than his entire car...

Ultimately, I told him that my car was as much a 1928 Mercedes as his car was a 1932 Ford.

I'd rather buy the shell itself for a drag or autocross build, otherwise it's just a waste and you'd be better off buying the real thing.

>>15241872
The interior is rough, the kickdown linkage is screwed up; moot since I'm putting an Edelbrock carburetor on when I get home, the AC is inoperable, the starter is weak and will be replaced, and the window motors need to be replaced.

Overall, though, it's what I was expecting. There's plenty of power left in the motor, despite it having 90k miles, and the steering is tighter than expected; probably done at 60k miles.

The drum brakes work surprisingly well, too.

I'll be completely rebuilding it over the next few years.
>>
>>15241964
You need a new voltage regulator if your ammeter is working correctly. Either that or the alternator is dying.

It's got to be the voltage regulator; the car was dead this morning. I'm having it towed to the nearest parts store and I'll swap out the regulator and the battery.

>>15242479
I may convert to discs if I put a posi rear end in, but I'll be sticking with the drums as long as they're adequate.

I've heard different things about the 280CE, from what I know it makes several liters or MPG difference to the 230CE. Also decently preserved 230CEs are far easier to come across than 280CEs in my budget range. So right now looking for a 230CE just feels like a better choice than looking for a 280CE. Maybe I'll get a 280CE a couple years down the road or swap the engine from a ruined sedan 280E.

Diesel coupes are next to none existent here in Germany because they were only sold in the US, and the odd import is asking ridiculous prices. And I'm not interested in a sedan or wagon.

As with most classics the prices range anywhere from monthly wage for a complete shitbucket to annual wage for a mint example. The attraction of the 123 isn't its price, it's its widespread availability.

Thing is, I've used this car as a daily for last five or so years, putting about 100k kilometers on it myself- now it sits at 300k total with only major intervention being head gasket replacement - and total body rebuild because of rust but that's irrelevant here. And I driven it between germany and poland - over somewhat famous route nach Breslau that still remembers communist state. Nothing broke.
Then again, 17l/100km is kinda expensive.

I like Imperials but after 1963 they looked way to much like they were trying to make a copy of Lincoln who had been making very conservative cars since 61. I have a 60 Imperial that isn't far off from driving myself.

17l is fucking horrid for my purposes desu. I'm expecting 11l or 12l average from the 230CE. Huge difference, and still on the border of affordability for me. 280CE is another 2l on top.

There is a reason for that. Elwood Engel, the man who designed the new Continental in 1961, was hired by Chrysler at the end of '61. He reworked the recently introduced Virgin Exner designed Imperial until Chrysler did a complete redesign in 1964. So the '61 Continental and '64 Imperial were completely designed by the same man.

I watched that video of Jay Lenos garage with the Mercedes-Benz's race car transporter. Surprised to hear that it was a replica. It looked so well done but then again, Jay Leno would have that kind of money. I'm not against it at all. A lot of cool one off cars were junked. That's the "automatic dimmer" for the headlights. I have no idea if it works, nor am I concerned with it.

The gauges; namely the fact that it tells you the oil pressure, temperature, and electrical usage are very nice.

The speedometer is great and really fits the era of the car; it made driving it a pleasure.

Though, the 440 runs like a top; hard to believe that it has 91k miles on it. The car goes remarkably well at 85 MPH and gets around 13 MPG at those speeds.

I REALLY want a Jag XJ6 series 3.

The only thing that withholds me is the maintenance. For those that have a classic car. Do you do the maintenance yourself/is it difficult?
Also, how often do you drive your car/is it your secondary car?

Are there more cars with the same design as the 74 camaro z28 or firebird formula 350? I'm a big fan of these designs

Is it just me, or are there no 72 Custom Cruisers for sale in the US?
>>
>>15256239
Pretty much everyone here does their own maintenance. As long as you're willing to learn and have tools, it's not most stuff isn't difficult
>>
>>15256239
If you don't like the idea of "a lot" of maintenance you could always get a classic with a modern or even slightly modern engine and tranny. My '76 Pontiac Ventura has a LT1 and I rarely need to work on it.

>>15256303
They are fastbacks. So most fastbacks of the late 60's to late 70's will have a somewhat similar design. Take the Oldsmobile Starfire for example (pic related).

>>15256381
Sadly from my experience they are hard to come by in decent shape. I think in the past year, I have found only one that was worth buying for under 15k. It's not even that they are super expensive and desirable, they are just uncommon nowadays.
>>
>>15256419
I'm willing to pour myself into it fully. I actually like the idea very much of working on my own car. So far I've only fixed my dad's motorcycle, but that wasn't too hard.
>>
>>15256381
Most wagons and sedans get driven into the ground and scrapped or wrecked in demo derbies because they become worthless.

The gas crisis of the '70s ensured that most of them from the early '70s were seen as a burden; for about 20 years, they were one of the least desirable cars around, hence, few survived.

The same applies to most C-body Mopars.

It's a shame. My parents owned one from my birth up until ~88 ish. I just wish I could find one again and restore it.

Well I don't know how far you want to travel but if you are in California you may be in luck. Although it may not be a '72, I don't think there was much difference from any of the years of the first generation.

Fucking awesome. Solid price too
>>
>>15256727
I'm in Michigan, so it'd be a bit out of my way, but it would certainly make a nice starting point.
>>
>>15256752
Could always get it shipped if you really want it. Probably would cost ~1k I would imagine from California to Michigan. Remember, these don't pop up too often especially in this great condition for this price.

I don't mind a road trip, I'd just have to get a long weekend planned.

>low budget funny car guy makes it to second round of eliminations
>maybe 8 or 9 people from 3 other bigger corporate teams come to his trailer to help rebuild the motor in time for the next round
>NHRA supervisor comes in, tells them they're out of time
>they're fucking scrambling to throw it back together
>no time to fire it up
>jack comes down, everyone cheers
>roll the chassis out
>mount the body outside
>they roll off to the staging lanes
>everybody runs to the stands
>he literally JUST got there in time
>light goes green, he smokes the tires and loses
>go back to the trailer and see the driver tearing down his own car
>invites me into his pit to hang out

Well I found some that fit your budget and I think they all could make a good starter classic. Parts I believe are not impossible to find, especially for the mustang. Also, they shouldn't cost an arm and a leg to repair.
