I've been thinking about getting a Z31. There's plenty being sold near me, and they're all fairly inexpensive. Should I go for it? Are there any specific problems I should look out for?

Both of these were from my local Craigslist.
they're slow as fuck and don't have that great of handling either. reliability is an issue, especially for the turbo trims. just remember that you are buying a 30 year old car that wasn't even that reliable in its day. give it a go if you really want one and have a second car.

I had a 1984 nissan 300 zx turbo in college back in 2012.
Bought it with 40k miles on it, sold it with 78k.
Literally buckets of fun, called it the "no fat chicks" mobile because it had a weight limit.
Drove it in Wisconsin winters just fine. The t-tops never leaked. All in all, I'd recomend them.

I drove it literally all the way from the south to Wisconsin (and back) 4-6 times a year in addition to being my college car.
I literally never had any problems with it. Then again I was willing to wait and let the turbo cool down after extended road trips before I shut it off.

>reliability is an issue
That's my biggest concern. I definitely don't want my repair costs to go into the double digits.

The white one I posted has about 45k miles on it, but is going for $8k. Twice as much as the one in the OP.

yeah if it has low miles I don't think it is going to have any major problems. I would be worried if it has 150k+ miles on it though

The non-turbo is known for being very reliable, the turbo a less so but it isn't grievous. Without the turbo it will be slow. desu if you do your own work the turbo won't kill you.
Also, the best advice I can give is go to an actual forum dedicated to the car. Most of /o/ is always talking out their ass.

Thanks for the tips. I'm interested in pic related. It only has 93k miles on it, but has some really ugly wheels. I'd probably replace them with Enkei 92s or something.

Mine was around $6500 (45k miles) back in 2012 when I got it. You do get what you pay for my man.

CLEAN
Don't be scared of the digital dash in the GLL trim if you can work a soldering iron. They do die often but it's always just connections going bad between the gauge cluster and the power supply or the speed sensor and the cluster. Either way it's just cleaning up connections or soldering two wires together.
Don't you...
...forget about me.

OP don't get a z31.
If you want a Z either get an S30 or S130
I had one for years and i loved it, sexiest car i ever owned.
It's a clown car on the inside though, i'm only 5'9" and felt cramped in it.

I recently got one myself
1987, GL, 2 seater, Slick top, N/A, 5 sp, as Basic as can be.
I recommend N/A for less headaches but they are slow if thats anything you are to worry about, a Turbo can go a long way in performance but I'm not down to deal with it.
Know what you want, every year has a slight difference.
Problems you will run into can be Faulty injectors. Check if its had its injector work done by Nissan, even if that checks out you should carry a fire extinguisher. Rust, they rust in only one spot, the trunk, water gets under the tool box on the left side, sometimes it will run over to other areas like under the cargo compartment behind the seat. The rear windows will most likely leak so you gotta reseal them to prevent more damage. The cars are old and with age squat and you'll have bad camber in the rear, I'm going to just upgrade the shocks, springs, and bushings to counter that myself. The Digital dash will go bad, supposedly just gotta fix the PSU since the wires get loose or something,
Parts aren't non existent but they aren't that easy to find.

I've never heard of mechanical problems with these, now turbo trims will obviously have stuff giving out more often.

on a side note my brother bought one for his first car when he turn 19, auto 2+2,back in February. What amazed me the most was that everything worked, not a single broken electrical switch or anything from a 30 y/o canadian car with 200k kms on it. so far he's had no problems with it other than some paint chips
