Well I've put 0 dollars of non-scheduled maintenance into my BRZ. So now our anecdotes can have a fight with one another.
Also, while the rattles/squeaks from the trim shouldn't be a problem in the first place, this is really due to it being a cheap car with stiff suspension. And it shouldn't take more than an hour to track down and use some foam rubber tape to fix.
So I'm guessing your friend isn't taking very good care of his vehicle and can't even be bothered to take a few minutes to fix some loose trim pieces.

Everything rattles man, it rattles when he downshifts, the rear end makes weird noises while driving, he's already gone through a fuel pump at 65k miles, the flywheel was replace because it fucking rattled like hell, the shifter noticeably vibrates and looseness the knob.
All of this happens on a newer car with only 75k miles on it?

Ive got a first gen (sept 2012) and literally no issues. Rattles dont make the car unreliable and they're easily fixed anyway. The only real issue the first gens had was the metal shavings from manufacturing blocking up the oil gallery and killing the right side cams but that was obviously under warranty and was a non issue past the first batch
